I just watched it again over and over. The slow motion footage helped a lot. PH fired the first shot, then client #2 and PH #3. Who fired #4 I can’t figure out as to me (and I have zero experience with a double) it came too quickly after shot #3. During shots 3 and 4 the client’s right hand was...
We can still use barbed hooks in Saskatchewan, however there are some lakes that are designated barbless. I think Manitoba is entirely barbless now. I’ve tried fly fishing with my buddy in B.C. and I believe that barbs were legal. As for the rest of Canada, I have not been fishing yet so I don’t...
I knew that he was not well. I saw him on TV a few months back and he was very thin, but I was still somewhat surprised this morning when I heard on the radio that he had passed. What really caught me off guard was the fact that he was 62 years old. I always seem to forget how the years go by...
My father who is nearly 82 and a lifelong farmer dropped of high school after grade 11. He liked to tell me that there is a big difference between intelligent and educated.
I don’t need to shoot farther, I need to hunt closer.

There is a difference between valuable and expensive.
Ragman would have liked to be there, @gizmo has done a pile of work since I was there 8 years ago. I’m not a bird hunter but I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to stay entertained! I have said before, if I ever go turkey hunting the Rockin G would be my first choice.
I love the .308 Win. Pair it up with a Browning BLR and it becomes the perfect rifle for me. I may just have it buried with me when I die! I love my bolt rifles too but that little lever is just made to hunt. In the bottom pic it’s paired up with my Browning X-Bolt in 7mm-08. Can’t go wrong with...
You’re right about that. We lost two from 2018-2022. My stepdaughter painted a portrait of our last boy for Christmas this year. Had her Mom and myself both in tears.
That is so awesome. Your Dad sounds a lot like mine. Dad finally retired from farming 3 years ago at the age of 78. It has always been a dream of mine to take him on a big hunt somewhere but he always used the excuse that he couldn’t leave the cows. Now that he’s retired he says it’s Mom he...
We were there the last 10 days of July in 2018 and I don’t think the weather could have been better. In the early mornings I’d wear a hoodie but by 9 or 10am I’d shed it for just a T-shirt. Very pleasant.
My only other trip to Africa was the first 10 days of April in Namibia. Again very...
I love this post…put a big smile on my face. That rifle shoot do well for you on fallow. Using 95-100 grain bullets works well on our Canadian whitetails which are quite a bit larger and mule deer which are significantly larger than a fallow.
There are quite a few members on AH that I’d love to...
Yep we sure do. To get a moose cut and wrapped at a meat shop with cost $400-$800 depending on the size of the animal. Roasts, steak, stew meat and burger…moose is too good to make into sausage. We get a lot of that from our deer. I also butcher cattle and hogs for the family.
Well I’m an official 7mm-08 fan now. Took this buck at 180 yards quartering to with my new Browning X-Bolt. Very happy with this combo. I’ve been griping because my better half has claimed my 7mm RM but now she can have it!!!
These are the best pics I’ve gotten so far this year. Deer numbers are significantly down in southern Saskatchewan from last year, both whitetails and mule deer.
I believe I’m about 98% content now that I have my 7mm-08 to accompany my .308 Win, .30-30 and 7mm RM. The only other temptation for me now is a .358 Win. I have less than zero interest in anything newer than 1970 and the European calibers. Not knocking them in regards to their effectiveness...
I love these dog threads. I’m a huge softie for dogs and there isn’t a breed or Heinz 57 that I don’t like. It’s a good thing I’m not wealthy and live on a huge property or I’d have WAY too many! Here’s my current pair.
Bailey. We got her from a farmer that I deal with through work. Her...
Not exactly the rifle I picture when I think of a goat hunt but I like your style!!! That’s a hunt I’ll never experience as some of the high footage I’ve seen makes my blood run cold…but kudos to you on that scary challenge! Caribou on the flats now, I’d love to do that.
Thank you, but there’s always a lot of luck involved. It’s also my home area and I know every inch for miles. Zone 48 is a tougher zone for sure. I got my last moose there in 2018. Found him on some wildlife lands not too far from McKague.
I like this thread. Here’s a few more pics:
The wife’s mulie way back in the hills in 2020.
My Dad’s 2019 moose that i described rolling up on the hay bale.
My 2018 moose that my buddy and I pulled into the back of my truck on a sheet of wood with puckboard to help it slide better.

My brother was also drawn for moose in our home zone this year. So Friday we all met up at the parent’s house and headed out. Well Mom didn’t but Dad and my sister-in-law did! All we saw for the first few hours was a cow and calf. Near the end of the day we went to check a waterhole and caught a...
Very similar to my experiences. Snowmobiles, ATVs and boats. I’ve mainly been able to get the truck fairly close and was always able to lift the deer or black bear into the box on my own. Once I got past 50 however that started getting harder. That’s when I got this:
Four years ago my Dad shot...
We usually have a large variety of different meat in the freezers with moose being her favourite. So she tends to try to make it last as long as possible. It will probably be two years.
in 2017 my better half expressed an interest to try hunting with moose being at the top of her wish list. She grew up in Newfoundland with her Dad, two brothers, uncles and now her niece all being moose hunters. Moose meat was a staple for them. Then she moved to Saskatchewan and missed that...
