    Question for long-time alaskans

I don't want to beat a dead horse but the 30-30 has minimal recoil. If your niece will be using it, this is a good choice for novice or first time users.

    Question for long-time alaskans

If your not wanting a bolt action rifle, my personal choice is a 30-30 lever action. Inside 150 it will handle everything we have. I live in Wasilla and have been in Alaska since the 80's. The 30-30 is inexpensive to to shoot, easy to handle (short), and has a good magazine capacity. JMO.

What's the best and worst African tasting game meat?

I love heart. Probably the best part of any critter. I just prefer to steer clear of the plumbing parts.

    Animal list for upcoming hunt

Thank you all for the great advise. After hearing your comments I have to agree that I should focus on the first few animals on my list. I want to actually hunt and not drive around to much. It's my first time to Africa and I want it to be perfect. You only get your first time once.

    Animal list for upcoming hunt

The animals most important are the Giraffe and the Blue and Back wildebeests. Would it be better to focus on these animals and hunt the others as targets of opportunity?

    Animal list for upcoming hunt

I have just paid my final installment for my June hunt in Namibia. I have made a rough animal list but am wondering if my list is to ambitious. My hunt is only five days and I have allotted funds for fourteen animals. There will be two of us hunting as my son will be hunting with me. I'm not...

Muskox is delicious. It is very beef like but with a sweet note to it. Also it is one of the few game meats that is marbled like beef.

To answer your questions Foxi. The moose live weight estimated at around 1100lbs and the muskox was around 650lbs. The mog ran great and is a very capable machine. As for the revolver, I always pack one when in the bush. We did have a grizzly come within 20 meters to camp eating the last of the...

    Muskox and Moose hunt pictures

Sorry, I fat fingered the old keyboard. As for the moose hunt. We,(my wife , 13 year old son, and my brother trekked into the Nelchina public use area about 100 miles or so from Anchorage AK. We then used our 4x4's(what we call moose buggies) to trek about 60+ miles into the bush. We established...

    Muskox and Moose hunt pictures

You bet Foxi. The muskox hunt started near Wales AK . It was August 1 (opening day). The muskox were in the open tundra about three miles from camp. I had a Polaris ranger 6x6 as my transport. There was no cover as you could tell by the pictures so trying the stealth approach was not an option...

We had a great time. I really enjoy that my wife and son enjoy this almost as much as me. The unimog is my brothers and I have the built up toyota. We are about 60 miles in the interior. It is only 60 miles in but took about 14 hrs to cover it. There are few people that can travel that far in...

I am traveling to Namibia in June 2016 with my wife and son. I am looking to harvest a Blue Wildebeest and my son would like a Giraffe. We would like to hunt several more species but want to focus on the first two mentioned. Is this a good way to approach this or do you just wing it and take...
