Which Rifle Scope to Use with Big Bore Calibers?

I have a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 in Warne quick detach rings on my Weatherby Mark V Euromark 375 Weatherby Mag.. It has crystal clear optics, & 4" / 100mm eye relief. The tube is long enough so mounting on any rifle is not a problem. It is very good in poor light or shaded areas. I truly love...

    Ugly question: 9.3x62 vs .338WM

I like the 338 Win. My own personal 338 was a 340 Weatherby with 26" barrel. I used to load 225gr @ 3000 fps & 250gr @ 2800 fps. I have been using my CZZ550 9.3x62 for just about everything for a few years. I rarely use my 300 or 375 anymore since I have been loading my 9.3 with RL17. I swear...

    Norma 9.3x62

The 9.3x62 is my very favorite cartridge. I recently bought another 100 Lapua cases which now gives me 200 new unfired Lapua cases + 20 once fired to develop some new loads with. I have been testing 250gr Accubond, TSX, Swift A-Frame, North Fork, Woodleigh PPSN & 286gr Woodleigh PPSN & Nosler...

What is the worst rifle you have ever owned?

It might have been Length of pull or some other factor. Maybe the stock did not suit you.. One of my favourite rifles, my CZ550 American 9.3x62 started feeling uncomfortable because I have Bursitus in my shoulder. However my Weatherby didn't bother me as it had a shorter length of pull & I...

What is the worst rifle you have ever owned?

It surprises me to hear that. I quite enjoyed using the 378 Weatherby. I always believed that gunwriters just kept recycling the original comment regarding recoil. While it is brisk it is not really offensive & does not kick as hard as a 458.. The Weatherby Mark V is a truly beautiful rifle...

Quality of Hornady brass for reloading..

Hornady brass is made in house. It is better than Remington & Winchester. Winchester is better than Remington. The best brass of all is Lapua, but they don't make belted cases. Norma makes the best belted cases.

premium bullet rant (read at your own risk)

The A-Frame is a splendid bullet. A few may equal it, but I doubt any other is better. I use the 270 & 300gr in my 375 Weatherby.
  8. B

premium bullet rant (read at your own risk)

Yep, that is correct because the velocity is not high enough to warrant a Premium Bullet. If that 7mm was a 7mm Weatherby used on the same game , then a Premium Bullet should be used. There is a big difference, but it depends on the cartridge, bullet weight & velocity & the quarry.

    Favorite .308 caliber

I have had eight 30 cal rifles. My current one is a beautiful new Winchester Model 70 Super Grade in 300 Win Mag. My very favourite tho' is the 300 Weatherby. It is no longer the fastest, but I believe it is the best.

    Scope for .375

My latest & probably my last 375 is a Weatherby Euromark 375 Weatherby Magnum. I have a Zeiss Conquest HD5 2-10x42 in Warne quick detatch lever rings. I am very happy with this combo. The Zeiss Conquest HD5 is a great replacement & a step up from the excellent standard Conquest that it...

    CZ 550 stock

Good choice Ses, I love that rifle & calibre. I am very happy with my Conquests also. I don't own a Kahles at this time but I do know how good they are. That is a scope I would be proud to put on my Winchester Model 70 Super Grade. 300Win.

    375 Ruger vs 375 H&H

I love the 375 Ruger. I prefer it in a long action like the Win 70 Mag, Rem 700 so bullets can be seated without sitting deep in the powder room. I personally think an extra half inch of bolt travel is meaningless. I can't understand the aversion some have to 26" barrels. I have been hunting...

    Zeiss Duralyt Opinions?

I have a 3-12x50 Duralyt on my Winchester Model 70 Super Grade 300 WM. I like this scope very much. It is good in crappy light & bright enough for me. I have a 3-9x40 Conquest on my Weatherby Euromark 375 Wby Mag for the 4" eye relief. I am very happy with this scope also. I just put a Zeiss...

    Scope for .375

I had a Zeiss Victory HT 2.5-10x50 on my new 375 but I removed it & put it on my 9.3x62 as I found it only has 3" eye relief. The same with my Duralyt. My Conquests have all been 4" right thro the power range. 3" is a bit short for snap shooting practice with a 375. The HT is a beautiful scope...

    Reloading data for 375 Ruger

I can tell you what I have tried, remembering, you are on your own when it comes to reloading. Every rifle is a law unto it's self. Drop back a few grains & work up.. The powder of choice is RL17 & is quite probably the very best for this cartridge...WLRM or Federal 215M Primers.. Winchester...

    PH opinions on Weatherby

There seems to be a lot of stupidity around the subject of weatherby's. There is nothing wrong with the rifles or calibers. Cashed up office workers & business men who don't or can't shoot often enough seem to be responsible for this opinion. Weatherby Mark Vs are beautifully made, very...

Remington 700 XCR 375 H&H did it job.

That's a good bullet.. I love A-Frames. They are my 2nd favorite bullet after North Forks.

    Scope for .375

My latest 375 H&H is a Winchester Model 70 Safari Express. With Warne Quick Detach Lever Rings. The scope I have on it is a Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40 #20 that I have had in reserve. For now it is plenty good enough. I am very fond of these scopes. 4" eye relief is pretty nice on a 375. For anybody...

    CZ 550 stock

I have a CZ550 American in 9.3x62. For me it is the perfect stock. I put a Limbsaver recoil pad on it & apart from that, I would not change a thing. I can throw it to my shoulder with my eyes closed & when I open them I am looking straight thro my Zeiss HT 2.5-10x50. It is the fastest snap...

New Model 70 7x57 need some recommendation!

In that cartridge I would use a good 140gr projectile. Great rifle choice. Despite what many say, the new Winchester Model 70s are their best yet by a considerable margin.

    .370 Sako Mag

I would take a 9.3x62 over the 9.3x66/370 Sako anyday or night. There is really bugger all difference between my 9.3x62 & my 375 H&H when loaded to potential. In the 62, Lapua is the very best brass & loaded with RL17 @ 2700 fps with the 250gr it really is a lot of gun. I use 250gr Accubond...

    375 H&H for everything

Hi mate. That sure is a big banger. I've not owned nor shot anything like that. It should be a lot of gun both ends & surely more than adequate for anything on Planet Earth. You will be very impressed & satisfied with the performance of North Forks. I have now got incredible confidence in...

    Bullets Choices for 375 H&H Multi-Species Hunt

There's the difference Wildcat. They work way better when driven hard. In my Weatherby's that I have owned 240, 270, 7mm, 300, 340, they have performed as desired. I don't use them any more because of the copper fouling & I believe I have found a better allround, all game bullet that always...

    375 H&H for everything

Hi Shakey. No offence friend. I will never question succes. In TSX I just happen to prefer 270gr in 375 H&H. Randy Barnes said the same. I personally have had 300gr not open properly. That bullet definately performs better out of my 375 Dakota (Win M70 Safari Express) These days I only use...

What Type Of Stock Do You Prefer?

I have all. Nothing looks better than Walnut. I have an HS Precision stock on one of my Weatherby MkVs It has been excelent & stable for the 11 years that I have used it in all weather. I have a Genuine Weatherby laminated stock on one of my MKV 300s, It was then known as Weatherby MarkV SLS...

    Bullets Choices for 375 H&H Multi-Species Hunt

Great performance. I've had the same results with 140gr 7mm Weatherby @ 3400 fps, & 180gr 300 Weatherby @ 3200 fps & 250gr TSX in my 9.3x62 @ 2700fps. I used the old X 210gr XLC in my 340 Weatherby @ 3200 fps. They sure do the job. These days I use nothing but Accubond & Woodleigh PPSN for...

    375 H&H for everything

The 300gr TSX is not a real good idea in the 375 H&H. Even Barnes admit the 270gr TSX works better & is prefered. In 300gr their is nothing better than the North Fork or A-Frame.

375 H&H Magnum bullets and sight in distance?

I would use the 270gr North Fork SS zeroed at 200 yds & use it on anything & everything that is on your hunting agenda. Trust me, you will love this bullet. My second choice is 270gr A-Frame. The A-Frame is not inferior at all, but the North Forks are extremely good, always open & never fail.

Advice wanted on optics for .375 H&H

Since the early 70s I had Leupold on every rifle I ever owned & that is many. I have also had Bushnell, Redfield, Weaver, Swarovski, & others I have forgotten. .Now I have Zeiss on everything & that will never change. Exclusively Zeiss & Warne quick detach lever mounts.

    KUDU RIFLES

Hi Bebo. If you want the 375 Ruger in your Win M70 S.E. any gunsmith with a 375 Ruger reamer can do this for you. I only did it for something different & because I like the Ruger case. However, you have to weigh up the expense of doing so. The 375 H&H is a truly splendid hunting cartridge &...

    KUDU RIFLES

Hi bebo, congrats on having a very nice Safari Rifle. Mine is a new 375 H&H. It is a few hunderd feet per sec quicker. I...

    KUDU RIFLES

Right at this very moment after eating a mushroom, garlic & salami pizza & drinking a few Jim Beams, I would take my Weatherby Mk V 300 with 180gr North Fork SS. 375 H&H for everything

If I was going on a one rifle PG hunt in Africa I would take my Winchester Model 70 Safari Grade 375 Ruger with Zeiss Victory Diavari 2.5-10 x42 #4 in Warne Quick Detach. Loaded with 270gr North Fork SS loaded to 2800 fps with RL 17 with complete confidence. I would even be happy to take my...

    More horsepower

4 is good. For me 2.5 is too low. I had a beautiful Zeiss Victory Diavari 1.5-6x42 #8 on my 9.3 but I would never use it below 3x as I found it very distracting seeing barrel in the scope. Optically it was amazing. But I sold it for a 2.5-10 Zeiss Victory Diavari #4. This scope is perfect for...

    The "Perfect" Bullet???

For me the best bullet is the North Fork SS for mice to moose. It is now the only bullet I use for trophy hunting or hunting bite back critters. I use the 180gr in my 300 Weatherby, 250gr in my 9.3x62. 270gr & 300gr in my 375 Ruger (Winchester Model 70 Safari Express) I also believe the...

    More horsepower

I wanted a bit more than my 9.3x62, I rebarlled my Winchester Model 70 Safari Express 375 H&H with a 24" Shilen in 375 Ruger. It is now more. If I was going more again I think it would be a 458 Lott or 416 Rigby in a big CZ.
  40. B

    More horsepower

There is not a cartridge on this planet or Venus that I would swap for my 9.3x62. A 250gr North Fork SS at 2700fps with RL17 is an amazing combo. I am buggered if I can tell any difference between it & the 375 H&H with a 270gr. Of those 2, I prefer the 9.3.
  41. B

    500 JEFFRIES

That case has a crap neck. It's too bloody short. If it had a neck like the 416 Rigby it would be a pisser.

Spike, I have a mate that uses a 416 Taylor on Sambar Deer. It's really mild to shoot & very effective. I started designing one to build but I changed my mind coz the 375 is so good. I frooled around witrh a few 375s including the 378 Weatherby with out a brake. The 378 is not as bad as some...

30-06 - The calibre to love or hate?

There is nothing wrong with the 30.06. It is probably the most sensible cartridge in the world. The same could be said of the 9.3x62 & the 375 H&H. Those that bag the .06 obviously don't own one.

Why The 30-06 Has Been rendered OBSOLETE

That is meaningless. The 300 RUM beats the 300 Weatherby. Big Deal. I will have my 300 Weatherby till the day I die. I will never have a 300 RUM as I just don't want one. My Model 70 30.06 will never leave my arsenal nor will my CZ 550 9.3x62 or Winchester Model 70 Safari Grade 375 Ruger. I've...
