I have a ruger .375 Alaskan stainless 20" with hogue rubber stock the best gun I bought for myself shoot the 300 gr Barnes 2400ft nice small gun easy to handle and shoots well
I'm not a fan of the laminated stock and muzzlebrake of the guide gun but also have not heard anything bad about them...
Leopard are not very tough or thick skinned animals shot placement is the number one priority and the kinetic energy the next one high velocity soft projectile is what rocks any cat's world and then like brickburn said the scope that perform best under low light
Also to shoot croc you need dead...
I load my .375 ruger with Barnes TSX 300gr flying at 2400 ft
And have taken from klipspringer to buffalo with that no problem.
It just drops rapidly after 200 yds
Probably the best calibre for Africa in my opinion
Bushbuck are one of my favourite pg animals very tough to hunt but also very rewarding and like the always say they don't get that big from being stupid , best time to hunt them would be late winter when its really cold food and water is scarce forcing them to move around more and come out of...
I agree with TMS I love those big body bulls with a nice long hair or "toffie" as we call it on the forehead with thick horns worn down tips and long dewlap that is what I want in a eland
Love hunting these big boys and the meat is really good to
Keep well
Why is there an argument on free range ? As I understand the area the waterbuck was hunted is hi fenced just like any ranch in Africa not free range .
free range does not say a lot about how the animal was hunted waiting on a waterhole on a "free range " area or hunting on foot tracking day in...
Hi , I have had sucsess with chicken call ( not a rooster ) and injured rabbit but if they are on a ranch where the do a lot of calling the caracal get very smart and dont want to come into the call
Keep well
Ryno
I am also a big fan of the slick tricks and have used them a lot shot straight through wildebeest and oryx with 28.5" draw 256 ft
You don't need more on plains game
Thanx for the info gert , yes I don't think I am going to go the Lott route with my gun with the quality bullets we get today a win ismore than enough for a stopper , I have used my .378 the last 5 years and it hasn't let me down yet but I got the .458 for free so I'm not going to say no and I...
The only problem I have with 3 or 4 blade on Buffalo and giraffe is more resistance that give less penetration
The Buffalo that I have hunted all gave very little blood trail hense their thick skin fortunately we have very good trackers that work only on track and found the animals all stone dead
My 2 cents , I have seen on plains game that lighter faster arrows with good quality broadheads work better and get more penetration and work good on anything up to eland
But as mentioned you have a curve on your setup that you will start to loss performance
On buffalo and giraffe you need...
Hi I would just like to know has anyone ever heard of a .458 styer win mag converted to a Lott ?
I think it is not possible due to the plastic magazine and not sure how strong the action is
Thanx
I think everything had been covered just something extra if you are looking at taking giraffe or buff you need to have a different setup
But for all the plains game you will be fine I like to use fixed bladed on bigger game like eland and wildebeest but a good mechanical will also work fine...
I was shooting the nosler partition and accubond in my 300 wby , the partition was better accuracy wise but did not hold together and did not get penatration on quartering shots where the accubonds group was not as tight but had no problem with penetration
I also switched over to Barnes the...
As mentioned there are many options I would sujest if funds are available to look at maby getting a guy with his own private plane and travel to different hunting areas and see more of the country you are hunting in just remember that if you go that rout to get a pH that you can get along with...
Judgement on wildebeest is quit difficult to say the ears are 26 " for some wildebeest have wider skulls than other we have shot wildebeest curling well past the ear and only measuring 25 and vice versa
My guess would be he is touching 32,5" a very good bull great to bring some good genetics...
Yes but does releasing them in these areas justify hunting them when is the area big enough to say wild lion and not canned ?
These are lions and act instinctively a captive bread lion can hunt and survive that is what animals do but in the eyes of the antis your still hunting a canned lion...
That is true and now more than ever we need to stick together and stand against the opposition for they are going to stop ALL hunting this way by taking one species at a time
Like petrus said we all know what hunting does and give to the community but the people that need to know about it and be educated is unfortunately not going to read that article or give it a thought unless it is on
The front page with a photo of a dead animal to draw attention
Unfortunately...
I think the DSC is a little bit bigger but it doesn't really matter to which one you go to you will see a lot of options and different areas to hunt different outfitters to go with , I would say visit both if possible DSC is first and then think about your options and choose the one that you...
It is always nice to have something like that made , having the memory of the hunt and the experience come back every time you take your gun out of the bag is nice
You do not get stupid questions ,ask as many you need , going to a different country is without knowledge on what to expect can cause disappointment if you did not work out your budget to do all the stuff you want
This is a great forum to start your African safari
Good luck on your planing
Hi in my opinion .308 is a better gun for competition shooting les recoil and a little cheaper to reload accuracy is more in the shooter than the rifle
But for a hunting gun the 06 is better in my books just packs that little extra punch
Keep well
Ryno
I agree with tootabi on this one it surely can be done but I think that there will be no flexibility
Type of mounts and destination of shipping can play a big role in price
Also will the flight be convenient for the hunter if it is not out of an airport close to him
I think this is all...
I agree if the deal is done and you agreed upon a price the price should stay the same despite what the exchange rate is
In the case of the exchange rate being in favor of the doller I do feel you can make a deal with the hunter on additional animals to be hunted
All comes down to...
I have the .375 R Alaskan like the shorty when walking trough the bush not catching all the branches .
I load 75,5gr somchem S355
CCI 250 primer
Barnes TSX 300gr
Hornady brass
ft/s 2400
Magic on buff hunted on kwalata wilderness early July 2015
Take my hat off to him taking all that hopefully it showed some of the people who aren't anti hunters the other side before they are turned into anti hunters
He made some good points hope it helps
Hey all has been said nyala is a must for kzn but if you are into small game red duiker is also a very nice trophy for kzn
Enjoy your trip and as mentioned take many pictures
Just hope the "big shot " game breeders don't see this they will probably classify this as the ( south east golden buffalo ) and would put a
heavyweight pricetag on it
Kind regards
Ryno
Never weighed baboon after a hunt until last week hunted big baboon male with bow and
We were at the skinning ched for iinterest sake I wanted to weigh the baboon pulled the scale to 31 kg and this is deep winter so think in summer with abundance food and water they can reach 40 kg
Keep well
I agree buffy weatherby is just in a league of of its own , I also have a .300 wby built on sako finbear and shoots great took a very nice kudu with it at 580 yards but my pride and joy would be my .378 wby
It is built on a CZ ZKK 602 with a nice Turkish wall nut stock
Hi you can give afton a look they might also be able to asist you .
Might think of spending one night at them leave your guns there and then catch the early morning flight to the coast and pick them up on the way to your hunt they are not far from the airport
Regards
Ryno...
I have used the 300 wby extensively on African came and it is a awesome calibre that can reach out there beyond that 300yard mark without loosing performance but I use the Barnes ttsx 180 gr and they shoot great groups and run at 2950 fps
Haven't used heavy bullets in it yet would like to see...
