    North Fork Premium Hunting Bullets

Good morning, Jorgen, Any update on production/restock of 375/300gr semi spitzers to the US market? They've been OOS for quite some time.

    300wm rifle scope

I’ve had no wants from a Swaro Z6 1.7-10 on my 300 win mag. It’s been used on whitetail and plains game, so no shots beyond 250yds to date, and I don’t anticipate using it further. Just picked up a Z6i for a 308 win for a blackbear hunt in Alaska in September, I’ll likely swap this scope to the...

    Who's Flying Qatar This Year?

Phil - how have you found Airlink to transit with firearms? Starting to think about travel options to the Save next year. My wife is likely making the trip with me (her first trip). I usually take two rifles, but heard Airlink had an issue with that when I booked my 2023 trip with TWG...

    Really light .30 caliber bullets

I had great luck with 100gr CEB raptors on whitetail out of .308 Win. Debating using those on black bear in alaska this fall vs a 130gr CEB raptor or 165gr TTSX. So many choices...

    Reloading for Dangerous Game

I've only ever hunted big game with my own reloads. I get great enjoyment out of making my own ammunition and then using it in the field. I like the ability to have direct control over every step of the process from a quality standpoint. I also cycle ever loaded round through my action at the...

270 grain vs 300grain which is better for cape buffalo and lioness

I'll be hunting lioness next year and using 300gr Woodleigh PP's out of my 375 H&H running 2550fps. I've used the 350gr version at 2250fps out of the same rifle in 2017 for two cape buffalo with great effect. I wouldn't hesitate to use the 300gr Woodleigh for buffalo.

    375 ready to hunt

That looks ready to go, to me. That's a screaming fast load. Haven't played with RL16 yet, was this data published or free based using your pressure gauge?

Does the perfect fixed blade for Africa exist? Whether it does or not, what should it look like?

I've carried a Gene Ingram B&T #4 on every hunt in Africa I've taken so far. I find it the right size for cutting biltong and opening packages. It's right at home breaking down a whitetail here stateside. Haven't put it to heavy task in Africa outside of the below elephant tail.

    Wanted .375 300gr Woodleigh PP

Good afternoon, all. In preparation for a lioness hunt in 2025, I'm looking for approximately 100 Woodleigh .375 300gr PP projectiles. I'm hearing they're going back into production, but no definitive date or pathway for distribution in the US yet. Thank you,

What did you buy or book at the SCI Nashville convention

Shored up last minute details for a boat based black bear in Alaska this September with Alaska Raven. Booked a lioness hunt in the Save for August 2025 with Mbalabala Safaris. Started discussions with some friends about a family trip to RSA for 2026, TBD. Custom ear plugs form ESP. Got to...

Anyone tried a magnifier with red dot on large caliber dangerous game rifles?

Cumulative recoil over lifetime can contribute to stress fatigue at some point, but we're talking a significant increase in recoil forces between a 308 and a 458. I'd liken it to being punched in the ribs: sure I might end up with a rib fracture after my 8 year old punches me 1000 times, but...

Anyone tried a magnifier with red dot on large caliber dangerous game rifles?

I'd think the same as AZDave. The higher COG of the magnifier on that hinge with something along the lines of a .458 Lott in recoil would have me concerned for durability. Either disengaging the lever holding the magnifier in place or compromising the whole hinge.

    Large rifle primer availability

Midway had Fed 210's back in November for $99/1000. I was able to grab 2 bricks then. That's the last I've seen of LR primers. I was down to my last 200 WLR's when I snagged those. Come to mention them, I haven't seen 215's in quite some time....

    Solids?

I've shot one elephant, and been present for one additional, with CEB solids in .416/400gr and .458/500gr. Both instances had no indication of bullet failure. The CEB Raptors I've only used on whitetail so far (.308/100gr and .308/130gr). In a sample of 5 deer, all dropped at the shot. I'm...

What is the ultimate stopping rifle..?

I felt well armed this year with a 458 Lott. If I were to do another dedicated elephant hunt (or a first rhino hunt), I might contemplate stepping up to a 500 class rifle. I tend to shoot bolts better than doubles, so likely a 500 J or 500 A-Squared. That being said, I wouldn't NOT go on the...

Questions about the African Carry and Others

I've never found the African carry comfortable, and don't employ it from that standpoint. While I agree it can allow for sweeping others with the muzzle, muzzle control is independent of carry method. I can point the muzzle to the right of the person in front of me just as easily as I can point...

    CEB 30 cal plains game?

Well, the final count for this year's hunt was 6 total deer (1 buck, 5 does). My wife took two 100ish lb does with the 300 win mag/130gr CEB FB Raptors. Both dropped right to the shot with no fuss. Brought both rifles to the stand, but she prefers the 300's scope. She's apparently claimed my...

    CEB 30 cal plains game?

Total count is 2 deer for the 308/100gr, 2 deer for the 300/130gr. Didn't end up dragging out the 375/275's this week. My wife flies in today and we start hunting again tomorrow-weds. Will report back. Haven't seen the internal damage yet, they're all going to the processor whole down here.

    CEB 30 cal plains game?

Thanks, Michael. Shot a doe last evening at last light with a 130gr FB Raptor out of a 300 Win Mag. Shot hit behind the shoulder at 79yds and she went down like lightening hit her. I'm sold on these things. Next deer's getting a 275gr Safari Raptor from a 375 H&H! I'm here until next Wednesday...

    CEB 30 cal plains game?

Shot a whitetail buck this morning that weighed out at 197lbs. Frontal shot with no exit. The outfitter was stunned at the performance at the shot (dropped in its tracks) and the processor relayed that the chest was a bowl of jelly. Taking out the 300 Win Mag with 130gr CEB FB's this afternoon.

    Ethiopia Layover In-Transit Hotel

I echo MDWest's experience. We stayed coming and going in May this year. It was worth the expense over the included hotel stay in the ticket fare to NOT leave the airport. Guns in that airport were a touch tricky, but easily sorted out. If i had to do that route again, I'd opt to stay at...

    CEB 30 cal plains game?

In sticking with my usual luck (or lack-there-of) in whitetail hunting, I didn't get to try either on a deer last year. I've always maintained I'd shoot an elephant before a good whitetail, so I'm hoping this fall I've better luck after accomplishing the first part this spring.... Hopefully...

Soft to Solid ratio for upcoming trip

    Still worthwhile picking up a .416 if I own a 375 and 458?

While I haven't bought on yet, I won't say I haven't pondered it, or a .404J for that matter. I have been deterred from doing so in the presence of my current 375 H&H and 458 Lott because the funds I'd spend on such a rifle are going to be much better enjoyed on my next hunt.
