How about the universities that are banning any gender pronouns! I am talking about words such as he, she, his hers and so on. Time to get rid of the entire lot!
In reality, the 577 was used to shoot elephants in herds! The 470 has my stamp of approval, having used it for a lot of game and never, ever needing to fire more than one shot. The 577 is uncomfortable to shoot, is very heavy and completely not needed, in my humble opinion.
There is no comparison at all! You are talking apples and oranges. The Westley droplock is a beautiful and desirable rifle if you want to step up to the price. I know of one for sale with 375 and 470 barrels for 58,000. It is in the makers, oak and leather case but has 28# barrels and a single...
Without a close inspection, I can give you some broad numbers for comparison. First, what is the condition of the bores? Second, does the rifle have ejectors? Third, what is the barrel length? Fourth, what is the condition of the metal and wood? I see decent Manton 470's for 19,000 for...
Check with George Caswell who owns Champlin Arms in Enid, OK. He has some used Chapius and will service them for as long as you own the rifle. They are solid built and are very accurate. I know he has a couple for sale.
Woodleigh has built his business on providing bullets that match the specifications of the bullets used in the "golden era" of double rifles. The ogive is exact and they are great game bullets. You can't go wrong with them.
OK, you have decided to make the jump! Congratulations. I will offer a bit of information that you may find helpful. I have been a double owner/user for nearly 30 years. I had a federal importers license as well. Double rifle are like a drug and can be addictive, so beware.
Since there were time...
My Holland 465 Dominion would double EVERY time I fired the left barrel first! It would definitely get your attention and on lookers were shocked when I opened the rifle and two empties were ejected. Probably the worse rifle I ever owned! Nothing but trouble and a pain in the ASS!
As mentioned by other fellows, Army and Navy was an outlet store and the rifles they sold were made by many different makers, all of which knew their business. If the bores are in good shape, the ejectors are timed correctly and it is on the face, it will, in all probability be an excellent...
After owning both, I like the 470 by a landslide. First, ammo is will be easier to find offshore. Second, the 470 has excellent penetration; I shot a Cape buffalo in Zimbabwe, using Woodleigh solids and it penetrated both shoulders and a small Mopane tree on the exit side! The bullet was...
