Congratulations, Phil! On your 25th wedding anniversary and on such a successful hunt together. May you two have many more happy hunting successes to remember. And here's to hoping Donna finds a .375 H&H under that Christmas tree from jolly ole Santa this year. Thanks for sharing. :)
I got into hunting late in life. For me, it was about being self-sufficient. If all hell broke out in the world, could I provide for my family. Its also about being healthy. Flat out, game meat is far healthier than the garbage meat you buy in the stores. Its also the healthiest form of protein...
One way to help her, is to go to her page and write a review with 5 stars. I support her. But at the same time, we need to get real. Posting public photos that others may regard as disrespectfut to the animal (such as standing or sitting on the animal in any form) may not be in the best interest...
While mine cannot compare in length of horn, I love the facial coloring of this springbok. I hunted him in the Stormberg area of SA in 2012. I chose to do a shoulder mount, and the backskin made for a lovely pillow. I love their soft coats.
In the Limpopo area. That's all I can say. And here I was hoping to finally see Kruger. LOL! Those who do not hunt Africa, have no clue the incredible experiences they are missing. You just feel so much richer as a person having gone through those experiences. Here's to praying there are many...
Most memorable moment will always be waking up to the sounds of the lions, leopards and hyenas just beyond where I was sleeping. And the white rhino who walked toward me after my sable hunt.
I haven't read all the comments......but HATS? I love hats. :) Shooting hats, hunting hats, Kentucky Derby hats...... LOL! That's what you get for allowing women on this site. ;)
I appreciate your comments. I am no writer. But I am an avid reader. My sons, however, have always loved to write. My oldest is a now a News Editor for a government periodical out of Washington D.C. I'll pass your comments on to him and see if he and I can collaborate on some sort of African...
Then let me torture you a bit. It was lush and green when I was there. And I love the tented cabins. The lodge itself, is built into the side of the mountain. :)
Wish the experience had been better. Sadly, more like a nightmare. Crusader Safaris made up for it this past buff hunt in May. The May safari was an over-the-top amazing hunting experience. :)
Total weight of my CZ .375 H&H is around 10 1/2 lbs. That includes all the accessories of recoil reducer, scope and sling. I carried her the entire hunt and search of the first buff hunt I went on in 2014. My Tracker carried it for me the majority of the time we were out in the bush on my buff...

Congratulations on your hunt successes! Especially taking a buff on your first safari. And good to see you're a die-hard Clemson Alum. I married one. Now that you've hunted Africa.......your love for it will run just as deep as that color orange.;)
Make sure to prep the wall space ahead of time. You won't come home disappointed. I cannot say enough good things about Andrew and his team. Do you know yet where you will hunt your buff?
Looking forward to any stories and photos you may post @JudyB . Are there any favorite books you have that you would recommend reading? If I'm not hunting Africa, I love reading the safari classics. Thanks! :)
Wow! David. I did not hear about your nyala/bushbuck combo. Looking forward to hearing more about your hunts in September. I'm really jealous of your bushbuck. Oh well......a reason to go back. Like I needed one. ;)
Thank you!! What a great site to be able to share our hunting accomplishments. My world does not understand my hunting addiction. Its good to have a support group. LOL!! And I hope you all saw that I wrote a hunt report. Check it out if you didn't. I'm no writer, but I hope you enjoy reading it. :)
Being a morning person, I can add to the sunrise photos. And the added bonus, is to hear the sounds of the lions, leopards and hyena in those early hours. :)
The following includes Impala Lily.
One more. Not quite at sunrise. But the early hours on top a mountain in Umkomaas.
I feel the same. I cannot imagine hunting with anyone else. Far too many are taken advantage of in this industry. Its nice to find someone you can trust. And as they say, "If its not broke, don't fix it.". I look forward to the photos of your successes. :)
I hunted hard for the bushbuck in Umkomaas. Even climbing 300 feet down the side of a cliff, hanging only onto white ropes to do so, to get to a boulder jetting out from the cliff. It was an excellent vantage point to the valley below. I had my crosshairs on one, but I didn't like the angle of...
Ha!! Make fun of her will you? She can at least take your dog on! Or......lick her to death! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Actually, I love dachshunds. My oldest son and his wife have two dachshund mixes that are rescue dogs. Because of them, I'm seriously considering a dachshund.:)
You will love them. Andrew has a great team. I've hunted with him twice now. And the Agent/Friends of mine have hunted with his family for many many years. Very professional. I would love to hear where you'll be hunting. And what's on your list.
Hey Y'all! I've been asked by a few folks to include a report of my recent Cape buff and common sable hunt with Crusader Safaris. If you're interested in reading that report, you can find it by tagging the URL to follow. It was easier for me to do it this way since others requested I write up my...
About an hour before. We had been stalking another lone sable most of the day, but he seemed to know our game plan and alluded us. We then turned our attentions to a group of sable bulls that were known to be in the area. It was late in the day. We were fortunate to take this old boy as the sun...
I just returned home late Sunday (more poor body is still on Africa time). And both my sons are getting married, my youngest in just two weeks. But I will try to have something written, with plenty of photos, before the coming weekend. My experiences this hunt went way above what I could have...
This was such an amazing hunt for so many reasons. I will definitely have to write this report up. He was hunted in the Limpopo area of SA. Crusader Safaris was my Outfitter and Rad Robertson my PH. Hunt arranged by Safaris Unlimited.

Buff down! And a common sable too. With a blue wildebeest thrown in for fun. Thanks to Andrew Pringle's, Crusader Safaris. And my PH, Rad Robertson. What a great young man and tenacious hunter! This is an Outfitter that never disappoints. And thanks to Safaris Unlimited for organizing yet...
Thanks Y'all. One week and counting down for me. I'm pretty well packed and pick up my malaria meds tomorrow. I might get out to do a little clay shooting tomorrow. Other than that, just dry firing the .375 H&H every night. It really helps me with regard to trigger pull. But there really is...
Hi CharliG!
I might be able to help you out more than they can. LOL! There has been a site popping up on my Facebook page that you might want to check out. The URL is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/GWGSouthAfrica/
It appears to be a clothing line that women in South Africa are trying to...
Thanks Y'all. I really appreciate the support. But isn't this site what its about? Eighteen days for me and counting down. With birthdays and weddings in-between. Oh......and maybe a little race car driving. LOL! ;)
Yes. But more at the long distance range with the rifle. Also doing more sporting clay shooting since we will also do a little bird hunting while in SA. I will practice with the mechanical buff next week and promise to get the details of the contraption they have built and photos as I promised. :)
A latest backskin project. I hated how the black leather had worn over time on this men's cherry wood valet. So I replaced it with a piece of Impala. I also saw, recently, where someone had used a black (probably felt) backing to a backskin and it served as a sort of doily on a beverage server...
Hahahahahahaha!!! That would traumatize any kid from the Western world and give him nightmares for life!! Hahahahahaha! That thing is HILARIOUS!! Okay. Okay. Maybe I'm just biased because I think warthogs AND baboons are way too TOO ugly to even hunt. I shot one only because my PH told me to...
