    Cavalry Carbine Sniper

Before the purists lynch me, let me say it's not a true Argentine, it's a mix-master Brazilian 1908 action with an Argentine FMAP mfg'd barrel & stock that I built last spring in 7.65x53 mauser. It has no collector value. My eyes are going south, so I bought a scope D&T jig and did it myself...

    Who reloads.....and why?

My reason for reloading, is the odd calibers that I own, when ammo is found, it is pricey! I also like to shoot cast bullets as well as jacketed, and I can load plinkers, or full power loads; my choice. So I guess variety is my reason, plus I get to shoot more for my buck!

    Anyone use the .311 caliber?

I agree Marcos, that Von Gruff does some fantastic work, they are true works of art, from some old warriors.

    Mauser M12

As far as technology goes I like cell phones, GPS, and game cameras, but looking at the Mauser website; I'd rather have a brand new M-98 than the M-12 or the M-03 ; not sure if there's a cost difference, but if I was going to shell out that kind of dough, it would be for a 9.3x62 in the M-98:D

    9.3x62 Project mostly finished

    My new "vintage" 308 rifle...

That Carbine looks like a Great Bush rifle ! Light and handy and quick to shoulder with plenty of power !! I recently posted to your older thread on the .311" bore; my new personal favorite. I also am very partial to the old Mauser's ; 2-1893 Spanish, 2-Yugo M24/47, 1-German M98 to name a few!

    Anyone use the .311 caliber?

I realize I'm late to this party; but I currently am having an affair with the 7.65x53 Argentine Mauser of the Cavalry Carbine variety. It all started 2 years ago, with a 1911 "DWM" mfg'd Modelo 1909 Carbine in 7.65 (.311"-.312") bullets. I liked it so much that I acquired two more Carbine...

    Mauser Oberndorf 9.3x62

Magnificent piece ! Can't wait to see it in furniture ! Plan to build a 9.3 x 62 this year. I'm thinking Mannlicher stock and peep irons, but who knows??

    Brazilian Cavalry Carbine?

Not really true, Awhile back I grabbed up a 1909 Argentine Cavalry Carbine in 7.65x53 Mauser (developed for Belgium in 1889). I liked the cartridge (150's @ 2700 fps & 180's @ 2500 fps) and the Carbines's handling characteristics so well, that I built another one, from a 1908 Brazilian action...

    she's here!!

Well in all the excitement I forgot the camera, But the shooting was awesome! shooting 180grn .311" Prvi Partizan ammo in the .312" (slugged it) bore wasn't too bad. 1-1/2" group @ 50 yards 1-1/2" high dead centered and 4-1/2" group about 3-1/2" right @ 100 yards, that's no bench, no...

I'll be taking the new girl out tomorrow with some friends, aka M24/47, that I have never shot before and my 1893 Spanish Carbine. There is snow in the forecast should be fun!!

Poucher; It's quite possible! I can't seem to control this addiction. I am currently trying to sell or trade my non-mauseres for mausers.

    she's here!!

Pics as promised, mfg'd in 1911 with a bore that looks like the day it was born, wood is not bad either, (but not matching) :( it's chambered in the 100+ year old 7.65x53 Mauser, kind of a 308's Grand-Dad, cleaned out the cosmoline today, it's ready to go!! 25470 25471 25472

    she's here!!

Finally here, after all the weather delays from the eastern seaboard; Georgia,USA waited 3 weeks:rant: It's a 1909 Cavalry Carbine in 7.65x53, still need to clean cosmoline out of the action, and take some pics, also have an M24/47 that hasn't been shot yet, I picked that up last year before...

    9.3x74r Ruger no.1

I saw a box of 9.3x74 ammo (Norma) at Cabelas for $78.99 and 9.3x62 was $42.99, to be fair the 74 was DG load and the 62 was a soft point(but still?) I think they are both about the same power level, but the only way to shoot either one is to reload, ammo prices are just crazy! Been looking...

    7x57 Owners....educate me

I have two 1893 Spanish mausers in 7x57 and keep my loads down around 40,000-44,000 CUP (original pressures for that round) But in a modern action like an M-70 or Ruger 77, that can be pushed to 45,000-55,000 those bullets will sizzle pretty good, approaching 280 Remington status, still not...

    405 Winchester ??

So 47 views and nothing, no positives or negatives. I thought the exploits of Theodore in Africa would at least conjure up some nostalgia if nothing less. I guess the 405 Winchester doesn't exist anymore, although I see one at the range from time to time, it's a real Boomer!
  28. tahoe2

    405 Winchester ??

Without any experience in the Big Bore world, where does the 405 Winchester fit in? Teddy used it back in the day! It was powerful enough back then, and more-so today with modern propellants and bullets?

    dreamer

New to the Dream, not wanting to go after the DG, just the exotic "plains game" with the unusual horns. And any of those that eat well. I do have a buddy who wants a Cape Buffalo, and so the dream begins. My cartridge of choice would be 9.3x62 Mauser(cause I'm a whimp!) and his .375 H&H. Yeah...
