I have several EAW small lever is on rear base with a small knob. Very solid system and typical German with many parts but when setup properly will stay put and no change in zero by removing and putting back.
One scorpion that is very scary is found in Iran and Iraq named ghadim (Hemiscorpius lepturus). All scorpion stings have an immediate pain so if possible most people get medical help. But ghadim sting is painless during first 24 hours! It’s venom is cytotoxins and hemotoxins. It destroys red...
This is getting very interesting and educational! Tumbling bullets are great for war since soft points/expanding bullets are banned by international treaties. But for hunting maybe not?
All this “doctor” title reminded me of a case years ago in Memphis when a man always put Dr. in front of his name and insisted people call him doctor when referring to him. It got to be so ridiculous that instead of calling him doctor they called him “durr” as in Dr. it was funny and drove the...
+1
When I was getting my PhD (zoology) it was well known that you could get EdD in about a year and a half where a PhD in science would take much longer (for an ordinary man anyway!). Anyway, you are so right about "doctor" part!
I agree if I needed 303 to shoot I get some new ammo. I’m not a cartridge collector but this was just too cool to pass. I have a few boxes of German WWII vintage 7x57 armor piercing I picked up for same reason - just interesting
Found a box of 303 cartridges at a gun show in Florida a while back I think are pretty cool! It’s a 50 round box of 303 by Kynoch made in November 1952. 174 grains FMJ (solid per box) in 5 round enclips, ‘chargers’. Case heads are marked K52.
I’ve read about H&H takedowns but not seen one. Thanks for sharing photos of a beautiful rifle. If I was twenty years younger I would jump at this great and very reasonable offer.
Red Leg,
Sir, your rifle is handsome! I’ve seen many #1s with nice wood on the back end but never the fore end. Is this re-stocked for you or original?
Sad news Charlie. If you communicate with his family please tell them those of us that had known him are praying for their comfort. Rest in peace Pieter.
I had and have more 70s than any other. Love them all. I even had 2 with push feed bolts! Only part of the latest I don’t like is the trigger. Original 70 trigger was the best. When tuned right nothing was better on a hunting rifle. Great article and thanks for sharing.
Congratulations. I know of no other hunting as can get one emotionally involved as mountain hunting. My hunting for sheep and ibex in Iran more than fifty years ago are as vivid as if done last week.
I’ve had several hornets an old Winchester 70 Hornet modified to K. That was the old version made for 223 bullets. Always like the hornet as it was intended to be mild manners. If need a bit more why not get a 222 Rem? For my money best current one is made by CZ with its cute tiny Mauser action.
Congratulations on your hunt. I only hunted one day with Johnathan and really enjoyed his presence. Great man to hunt with and of course there can be nothing wrong with a rifleman that carries a Winchester model 70.
Great rifle and handsome! I have used 1.5x5 Leopold VarX III on two M70s in 375H&H and never felt I needed any more. Love the small size and can handle all the recoil in the world. Great field of view close up and plenty of magnification for the rifle/caliber. Hope you enjoy it. Love my 70s...
Cheks always made great rifles at Brno factory if you haven't seen one of their Persian Mausers made during the 1920s for Shah's father you should look one up. In my eyes they have to be the most beautifully made military rifles ever made. Their attention to detail was amazing.
You do have a...
Thanks Ferreira. My fault not looking carefully at the great pictures you've posted! I just read the description and thought it may be a double-set trigger. But it's not. However, I really appreciate your generous offer but I can't use this. I like double set on my Mausers.
It's wonderful to...
I've only killed deer with 30 caliber 165 gr partitions in 30-06 and 300 Win Mag and never lost a deer. The only recovered was one from a frontal shot that was under skin all the way close to tail. I think people that recover bullets with front part lead missing, consider these as failures...
