    Victoria Falls After hunt tour

3 days is more than enough. Take in the falls. High tea at the Victoria Falls Hotel. Lunch at The Lookout Cafe. Snatched an invite to the Victoria Falls Boat Club last time there. Enjoyed dinner there. The Portuguese chicken was outstanding. Shopping can be an adventure in the curio...

    Bringing rifle w/o assistance

I‘ve done it myself and it was no biggie. That said, I was the last one out of the SAP room. I‘ve used services multiple times and it is much better. So much better, I would say penny wise and pound foolish not to. The last two trips over, my guy did all the paperwork and inspection and...

Do hides and horns have to go to usda facility?

All dip and pack goes to USDA facility. Just got stuck with that adder last week. USDA clearance fee of $312.28. And they did the tanning as well. Two skins. Two skulls.

Wild hog meat… do you eat it or is it too risky?

Not that I’ve taken that many, but I’ve never recovered an arrow intact from a hog. That damn shield over their shoulders is no joke. I carry one arrow dedicated to pigs when I’m deer hunting. Fixed blade G5 without a Luminock. You can usually hear them coming and have time to swap arrows.

Wild hog meat… do you eat it or is it too risky?

You are right about that. I’m always in a tree with my little stick and string. Range is limited. And I’ll tell you, a pig is hard to kill with a bow. They are constantly moving, even when staying in the same spot.

Wild hog meat… do you eat it or is it too risky?

Never shot a wild hog here in Texas that I didn’t eat and enjoy. I will say that some are better than others.

A few years back I found myself in Dealey Plaza late of an afternoon. Not many people around. Very little traffic. The retaining wall where Zapruder stood as he shot his video is still there, as are many other landmarks; ie trees, lampposts, etc. I climbed up on the wall and stood just as...

What is the best place for Kudu or Eland + other PG hunting?

Tholo is cool for kudu and eland. No dangerous game though. At least that I saw or was aware of ( Other than leopard) Coutada 9 in Mozambique is excellent for plains game Ele, lion and buffalo as well. That would check all your boxes. Mokore safaris. I have done a plains game hunt...

    Gaiters...

I’ve bought all kinds of gaiters, as I only hunt in shorts. Custom made buffalo, zip ups, Velcro closures, you name it. ( Avoid the Velcro seamed ones at all costs. You’re welcome.). Settled on the Boyt slip on canvas. Best fitting, most comfortable, and probably the cheapest. Work...

    What’s your spookiest hunting experience?

Last day of an Ohio bow hunt several years back. Drove from camp to the spot where we were parking, about 5 miles. We got out and started to get our climbers out as well as our bows. I then realized that I had neglected to put my Hunter‘s Safety system vest back in my bow case. Crap. No...

Convince me to look at South Africa

Hunted a wonderful area along the Umkomass River in KwaZulu Natal. Completely free range. Kudu, bushbuck, impala, Nyala. Mountainous area, lots of glassing across canyons. Beautiful. Also, the Midland Meander is close by, provides a nice break for the missus.

A couple my Dad used to say…. On finding himself in a happy place, like sitting around a campfire smoking a pipe at the lake after a super day, or in deer camp ”Man, I wonder what the poor folks are doing? “ On viewing hesitation or apprehension when action was what was required…… ”Do...

    Favorite Hunt?

I’ve been fortunate to hunt a lot of big game, although only in North America and Africa. A tracking eland hunt ranks way up there. My absolute favorite place to be on this planet is still a flooded hardware flat, hunting greenheads sifting down through the tree canopies on a bright sunny...

Texan’s, as a whole (always exceptions) often don’t possess the sensitivity to other’s feelings as some other Americans. For that I AM THANKFUL. The consensus thinking is often “Were you offended by that? Good “. That said, we are some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet!
