I agree that the prewar Hollands were a finished a little nicer than than prewar Rigby’s overall. This particular Holland is finished at a bit higher level than most with the horn forend tip and little touches like engraved screw heads. These features were not common. I believe that most (if not...
Thank you for all the comments. This one is a truly special rifle. Hard to let it go but it is time for it to go to a new caretaker. Please send me a PM with any questions if I can help.
Good question. This uses Holland's most prominent style of takedown system. Some call it a take-apart.
1. It has a large captive screw in front of the magazine in the bottom metal that can be loosened with something like a coin or screw driver.
2. Then the barreled action tilts out of the stock...
Up for sale is a very rare and early “Best Quality” .375 Holland & Holland barreled action takedown Mauser rifle. This rifle is very rare in that it is a Pre-WWI (circa 1913-1914) Holland & Holland rifle built on a Magnum Square Bridge Action. The .375 H&H Magnum was invented in 1912 making this...
What a super cool offer for ammo collectors. Or, aspiring ammo collectors. Would be very tough (and expensive) to put a grouping like this together. What a way to jump start a collection.
Great deal for both seller and buyer on an excellent rifle. I have this same rifle that I customized some. I have taken it to Alaska twice and have the utmost confidence in it. Excellent rifle in the perfect for Alaska big game.
I would also guess that the stock may have been refinished but the shotgun is in very nice condition overall and I don’t think it has been shot much. Also, the chambers appear to be 2-3/4” factory and have not been lengthened. A 2-3/4” shell falls right into place without issue. From my...
These Jeffery rifles are beautiful. I am glad to see them being built true to the lines of the original prewar rifles including engraving patterns. The engraving on the 500 above looks very similar to my original one which I love. Kudos!
I am very sorry that I missed them at the G&H booth at...
Reviving an old thread here but I was wondering if anyone has the original article listed archived somewhere or in PDF? I enjoyed reading it a few years ago and wanted to read again but the link is broken now. Thank you.
I continue to be very sad to see these threads. Dennis has had a lot of challenges in the last several years that certainly exacerbated what was already minimal communication and customer service. I found him to be generally pleasant to talk with when I could get him to answer or reply. He...
This is a really cool rifle and a great video. Love the nostalgia. As others have said, I feel like the provenance connection to DFH is a little weak. Still super cool and may very well be DFH’s rifle as stated.
This is a Prewar John Rigby & Co .275 Rigby from circa 1929. It has a 22” barrel with ramp beaded front sight with two folding leaf express rear sights with leaves for 100 and 200 yards as well as a cocking piece mounted peep sight. It features a standard Mauser flag safety with “SAFE” inlaid in...
Beautiful rifle. Hearty Congrats on a great purchase.
I have a friend that I believe will have what you need. I will make him aware of this thread. Good luck to you.
I am mostly looking for modern shootable 425 Westley Richards ammo rather than vintage collectible stuff right now. I would also like to find reloading components (dies, brass, bullets). Thank you.
Someone asked me about stock dimensions on this one. I don’t have a perfect way to measure but it looks like ~2” drop at comb and ~3-1/4” drop at heel.
I don’t know. I will say it looks like several other higher grade LCs that I have seen for sale but with some of the best wood grain. It certainly may have been refinished at some point though.
I bought this gun awhile back in a group of guns and always thought it was very nice but I really don’t need it. I am not an LC Smith expert but from the research I have done, this appears to be a very nice example of a pre-1913 No 3 grade gun. It has a very attractive amount of remaining case...
You guys are awesome. After looking at several example that I could find online, I think it must be a Lenard Brownell rifle also. Definitely the bolt handle and scope mounts as well as overall style point that way. I removed the buttplate do there were no markings under it either.
I am selling a few more select rifles out of my personal collection. This one is a very fine Custom Mauser Express rifle in 7x57 Mauser. This rifle was purchased from the, now long gone, Fine Gun Room at the Bass Pro Shops in Dallas several years ago. The salesman thought that it may be a Duane...
Well darn. Will let others enjoy the good deal then. Thanks
That’s probably the only downside to my preference for vintage rifles. Well worth the inconvenience though IMO.
