Remington closing plant in Ilion NY after 207 years

Give me a break. Easy to argue if all one does is find bogeymen behind every comment that one disagrees with.

Remington closing plant in Ilion NY after 207 years

They are moving to secure some Georgia incentives at the expense of Georgia taxpayers… When the tax incentives are gone…. Remington folds.

Remington closing plant in Ilion NY after 207 years

I think that you nailed it. The company failed to update its plant over many years. Easy to blame it on “liberals” and other bogeymen. I call BS on their claims. They will get some tax breaks and incentives at the expense of Georgia taxpayers. My prediction is that this move will not solve...

Potentially new dangerous game cartridges coming to market?

Newer cartridge designs will not lower the prices for dangerous game ammunition. At best all it is is “Peeing in the soup” to make more soup. There is no added value. My solution has been to reload my DG ammunition. It is much much cheaper than purchase at retail.

Potentially new dangerous game cartridges coming to market?

Dangerous game cartridge design is already much more than adequate. I don‘t see a point in developing new rounds, other than to extract money from hunters’ wallets.

Reloading or factory loads for Dangerous Game?

I have used reloads for both of my Africa hunts. They worked out very well. I don’t see any issues regarding using reloads On Africa hunts.

    Limpopo Malaria

I followed the advice of my doctor and the health department regarding malaria medicine. I suggest that you do the same. An outfitter is good at organizing a hunt and your doctor is good at looking out for your health…. I wouldn’t use an outfitter for medical advice. Some people have been...

Potentially new dangerous game cartridges coming to market?

I am not sure how that works…. Can you provide a modern example where the introduction of a newer cartridge has driven the cost of old cartridges down.

Potentially new dangerous game cartridges coming to market?

Why is another DG cartridge necessary? I don‘t believe that it is. There are plenty of DG cartridge sizes and types available now. If you want to try a newer cartridge, try the Ruger .375. It was developed in 2009. but, just imagine how you would purchase ammunition for it in say Zimbabwe...

Your favorite hunting rifle of all time

My favorite rifle of all times is a simple Weatherby Vanguard in .308 Win. It has a reasonable range, coupled with mild recoil and an ability to cleanly kill deer and elk. I have grown a bit cynical of the marketing spin put on new rifles and cartridges. The hunting magazine writers are paid...

Perfect Safari or Tropical Hunting Shirt

Short answer, I made my own. I discovered that the ones that I purchased at the SCI convention just didn’t last long, but I had 3 LL Bean Sunwashed Canvas shirts that had proven tough over multiple years. Soooo, I decided to beach and them dye one into Olive Drab. Worked great, a bit darker...

Changes in value for Dakota Safari

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I don’t buy guns as an investment either. I am curious as I have a .416 African as well as a .375 model 76. I like them both, probably only need one. They are both very beautiful firearms. I am just curious as to what the change in Sturgis will do to the...

Changes in value for Dakota Safari

Thanks, I am thinking more in terms of 3-5 years rather than right now. The economy will always go up and down, but what I am curious about are opinions on the impact of Dakota going out of business on the price of Dakota rifles….

Changes in value for Dakota Safari

Dakota was sold to Parkwest. I am curious about changes in used Dakota values since the change. There are no more newly manufactured Dakota’s. There May be a few NIB’s but none from the factory in Sturgis. Does anyone have any sense for what this is doing to the value of Dakota rifles?

    30-06 load questions

I believe that both bullets that you have will work fine on the animals that you mentioned. Impala are whitetail sized thin skin game. Any bullet that works well on a white tail dear will be fine. Wildebeest are a bit bigger, but are thin skinned. Again a 30-06 with 165 grain Nosler will...

Best Reloading Kit For The Money

Thanks 8x68, your post was very comprehensive. I looked at your list comparing it with mine.. There are a few differences. 1. Lee Anniversary Breech Lock Kit $199 (press, scale, powder measure, funnel, trimmer, chamfer tool, pocket cleaning tool and primer). A great value. This is how I...

Best Reloading Kit For The Money

I used a Lee Challenger Reloading Kit for around 25 years. It works great. I finally got sick of weighing each load and now have an electronic scale. You can spend a lot of money on reloading kits, but they are pretty much the same, except for the marketing department. It is all about...
