Sorry to go on and on but I’ve enjoyed reminiscing on the non-hunting portion of my trip in light of your post. I don’t recall having done so until now. Most of my recollections have been on the hunting portion. The trophy photo below is of my SCI gold roasted cauliflower dish at Mishiguene in...
Recommendations-
Arandu Recoleta- shopping, Beretta Gallery feel without the guns.
cafedelosangelitos.com- dinner and a tango show. I highly recommend if you are looking for this sort of experience. It was recommended to me by an American friend living in BA. Reservations recommended...
My wife and I stayed at the Intersur Recoleta in April 2022.
This is what I remember:
-safe, clean
-nice central location for seeing Buenos Aries, we walked a good bit
-decent breakfast
-adequate rooms, nothing special
-good value
-not luxurious
Positive Transactions:
I’ve had positive transactions over the past couple of weeks with the following purchasers. All communicated well, paid promptly, and confirmed receipt of goods. I wouldn’t hesitate to do business with each one of them again. They are:

I’m offering a work horse, not a show pony, in Husqvarna M1640 30-06. Simpson Ltd. import marks. I paid in the upper $400s about 10 years ago if I recall correctly. I put a box of Barnes Vor-Tx ammunition through the rifle 8 or 9 years ago with good success with open sights at 100 yards.
I’m...
Upon arrival in Johannesburg (JNB) on October 5th I expeditiously proceeded from the back of the airplane to Passport Control. When I arrived, I was three rows deep in the non-RSA citizen que. After 10 minutes or so only a few people were processed through by the two or three agents working. At...
I’ve never had a problem with expansion of a Barnes bullet, that I know of. Pass through, yes. Expansion, no. My experience is limited to .270 Win on whitetail deer and quite a few African PG and .458 Lott on Cape buffalo.
Barnes does make 30-30 ammunition in their Vor-TX and Pioneer lines. My...

Welcome to AH from Alabama.
I have two No. 1s.
• No. 1V .243Win.
• No. 1H .475Turnbull w/Turnbull upgrades
I look forward to your comments/contributions.
Thanks for the heads up. I placed an order for 416 Taylor 250 ct. this afternoon.
I’m not a hand loader but after purchasing a 416 Taylor and this matching head stamped brass I seem to be heading in that direction.
Thanks @JHT.
It was a pleasure having you over and hearing more about your recent safari in Zimbabwe. The stories were as good, or better, in person as what you shared with the AH community in your trip report. Keep them coming!
Montana Rifle Company 1999 AVR .375 H&H for sale. Looking to raise funds for other projects, no trades. It appears to have been unfired except possibly by manufacturer. This was a Safari Club International donation with a “SCI First for Hunters” logo on floor plate, see photos. If additional...
Nice Ruger M77 MkII “Express” in .300 WM for sale. Looking to raise funds for other projects, no trades. I’m not the original owner and do not know the round count. It appears to have been shot very little. No box, no rings. Slight scratch on stock and some wear to fore end tip as seen in pics...
Chukardogs, Thanks for posting. It has been great reading an in depth account about your safari. We briefly exchanged pleasantries and highlights awaiting USCBP to clear our rifles in ATL on the return trip. Cheers!
Welcome Diego!
I enjoyed visiting your country for the first time in 2021 to hunt. Best wishes on being able to hunt buff on the Dark Continent in the next couple of years.
@michael458 thanks for the great information.
I’ve got a 458Lott wearing a Weaver Dangerous Game 1-5x24. I’ve put slightly over 20 rounds through it since I’ve had it. I’m not sure how much it’s been used previously. I was somewhat skeptical since it wasn’t European glass like I’m used to...
As I recall, the road system between Kimberly and Johannesburg was good. I wouldn’t hesitate to be driven between the two again…in the daylight. If you have the time, it’s not a terrible trip and you do get to see more of the countryside from the car vs airplane.
I also recall there being...
Does anyone know how to interpret MRC serial numbers?
They seem to use a letter, two numerical digits- then four numerical digits. (Example: C18-0123) My guess is the letter designates the model, two numerical digits designate year of manufacture, and four numerical digits is the order in...
In October of 2021 my wife and I flew Delta from ATL->JNB, overnighted at Afton Safari Lodge in J’burg, then Airlink from JNB->KIM the next morning. I would recommend overnighting in J’burg at Afton (provided meet and greet, transport, etc.) or one of the accommodations recommended by AH...
I never really considered the .416 Rem or .416 Ruger. I did consider the .416 Rigby and .404 Jeffery, ultimately ending up with the Taylor. Most of which would be easier to procure ammunition for vs. the .416 Taylor, with the possible exception of the .404J.
I considered the .338-06 and .338WM...
My “gap” lies in between .300WM AND .458Lott.
I picked up a .375H&H and .416Taylor to potentially fill that gap. I’m likely to keep only one of the two. I haven’t shot either this far. Finding ammo for the Taylor is a problem but I’m attracted to a little something different. The .375H&H seems...
