I wear one of these. Tritium is easy to see at night and while it is cheap, it looks even cheaper :).

What is a proper "stopping rifle" and load for dangerous game?

"How many here have shot a buffalo in the head, missed brain, but knocked that bull down still? What were you using, bullet type, ft/lbs of energy? side of head, straight on?" This is what I would like to hear more of as well. Excellent post BTW.

My thoughts as well. That is one trophy that money cannot buy (these days). I always loved the picture of Robert Ruark's tiger pelt in his house in Spain. Professor Mawla, you have some incredible trophies with some incredible stories to go along with them. Thank-you for sharing them with us.

    Markhor....what's the big deal?

Yes , I have a blackbuck mounted as well and they are tasty. They are elegant animals. I have seen one running at a full clip before and can understand why royalty used to hunt them with cheetahs back in their home range. They can move.....

    Markhor....what's the big deal?

I lived in Texas for a few years. There was a former ranch that had been subdivided into 5 acre lots with McMansions on them. They never got rid of all the axis and blackbuck on that property. It was a hoot watching a herd of blackbuck cross the road around dusk in the middle of a high end...

    Markhor....what's the big deal?

I have seen pictures of Markhor horns being hung outside wooden houses in Nuristan in the same fashion as Americans hang whitetail antlers on a barn or shed. I do plan to return to the "stans" to hunt mid-Asian ibex. A Markhor hunt in its natural habitat is way out of my price range.

While I am not sure if exported versions of this product/model differ, the short answer is yes they are all adjustable. However, you can have them pre-set (but still adjustable) at a desired weight if you order one directly from Timney . I have the same trigger (blued version....I believe yours...

I can’t believe you said impala ( as I completely agree!), I have taken common Sable, southern greater Kudu, and many other common species, but in my eyes, the “lowly” southern impala or its northern cousin are one of the most elegant animals on the planet. Perhaps it is because they are so...

A lot of good options. I have owned a bunch but currently have a couple of Colts. Just replaced the triggers with Geissles. I don't really care for ARs outside of the purpose they were originally intended for. If you do decide to put together one of your own, recommend sticking to 5.56/.223...

There was no assertion that it was a true magnum action. Hence, "obtuse" may apply to your comment. However, I'm going to write down your definition of a "safari rifle" for future reference. Thanks for the clarification. Listen, there are plenty of brand new CZ550's in 458 Lott for sale right now on gun broker for $1200. If one wants a large magnum action CRF , that is certainly an alternative. Another alternative is to buy a new FN made model 70 in 416RM or 458WM (still a CRF...

Was there a specific caliber reference? Or simply a "safari" rifle...however that is defined? What is a proper "stopping rifle" and load for dangerous game?

What is a proper "stopping rifle" and load for dangerous game?

To the end that it is a relevant question to one planning a buffalo hunt (as I am). From the responses so far it would appear to be a debatable and hence, an interesting question. What is a proper "stopping rifle" and load for dangerous game?

Should the caliber start with a "4" or is a 375 enough gun? What about a 375 with solids? Or a 338 magnum with 250 grain solids or monolithic bullets for that matter?
