    My new Von Gruff

Sheath done, handles epoxied and pinned on so just the shaping and the hot waxing of the leather to go but I have to go up country for a couple of days to delvier a few knives so next week is show day. This red gum will be a stunner (in the subdued aussie way of course) ;);)

Ghost ring / peep sight integral with scope base?

Yes but I was never the cool kid and I got to make another couple of piece of gear to go with it this way, (y)(y).

Ghost ring / peep sight integral with scope base?

The simple solution is one that I have for my own rifle with the Talley bases and aperture sight on my 6.5x57. Make cartridge holder with a small pocket for the aperture and a scope bag where you can carry a few rounds as well as the scope. It can sit down one side of the day bag when not needed...

    Military Surplus Rifles for Hunting

Hunted early on with w11 surplus Lee Enfield that had the forewood cut back and the same with the 98 Mauser but soon started to customise pre 1904 Enfields (Magazine Lee Enfields) and the pre war Mausers which still have a place in the hunting rifle selection for any hunt imagined.

I load to 57K psi with 46.2 gn ADI 2209/H4350 under the 139gn privi partisan C&C bullet for 2800fps and under moa so just the thing for deer. The 120gn TTSX is an option at just on 3000fps with H414 or win 760 but the simple C&C privi bullet is all that I need for the animals I hunt here.

This is not a down on the post but a serious question. So you have a perfectly functioning knife and use it to make a knife to do stuff with. Why wouldnt you just use the perfectly functioning knife to do the stuff with and in a survival situation can the reed knife be made without a...

    AfricaHunting.com Hunting Knives

But it is a using knife and gets to prove itself most days and if it was all I had, it would serve to sort an animal if need be. Afterall is said and done, it has the same length blade as the Africa Hunting EDC, so we are both on the same page when it comes to the small daily use knife. No...

Knowing the steel in them allows for the correct heat treating to be done so the blade is as good as the bar stock I use. The wire rope is a high carbon steel so is very suitable as is the bearing races and rollers along with the springs from the older US vehicles. Many new vehicle springs are...

Thanks Bob. Jerome and I had some very interesting discussion as this little knife design came to be finalised. The X draw sheath has now been changed from actual horozontal to a 10% angle. There has been an almost equal number of crossdraw and traditional sheaths requested with this little knife.

A very thorough testing Bruce and the report is appreciated. I love to hear of my knives doing the job they were designed for and customers discovering the wider range of uses then many initially think they can do.

    I've found perfection

It makes a difference in how you approasch a shot. For the shooter whom prefers a heads up stance then the drop at comb and heel is not so much oif an issue as it its for those who shoot heads down. I uses 3/4 and 1 3/4 for comb and heel from center of bore for my 6.5x57 and it is a very...

    AfricaHunting.com to be updated

I did much prefer the header on the previous forum page where the bit of black kept the bright yellow from dominating the page and the thumbnails still take so long to load that I rarely look at them. Just this morning on the "New all round knife" thread, Witold Krazy1/4anowski (post #55) and...

    New allround knife?

That is an intersting choice. I have used the giraffe bone but not the horn. Very nice colour change with the spots as well. Nice simple design that will cover a great deal of all knife needs in the field and not unlike my bushcraft hunter with the scandi grind on O1.

My vote for the best boot is the Lowa Tibet. The most comfortable ( long lasting) and stable in any condition boot I have ever had on my feet. Wearing Lowa Rangers now but dont do the hard hill work I used to do.

    My African Knives

A bit of a play to update the anvil I built some time back. Had always intended to get a horn organised for it but have decided this is a more practical solution. I added in a hardy and pritchel hole so it made sence to make use of them for the horn substitutes. I had a 4 inch length of 4 inch...

    Rechambering of Rifle Actions?

No. I bought a short chambered 405 win barrel and lengthened the chamber ( carefully a couple of liught turns at a time and check) to suit my case length, filed in the extractor claw recess and it was good to go.
