I am happy with the few forming loads I've shot, but haven't done anything serious. Since i built the 400 i acquired a 416 Taylor built by Frank Wells, and also a 404 Jeffrey from Parker Hale. Take time had been limited and i can only shoot so many big-mediums at a time lol. I am actually...
blast from the past!
I did end up building the 376 on no name 98. Actually just about finished up inletting the stock this week and will be bedding it here shortly.
Coincidentally I also recently traded into q 375 Win! A model 94 XTR, pre Big Bore, so it is the standard to eject. Lovely...

I worked a large estate of some very fine guns recently. I've decided to take home a custom Mark X 416 Taylor! I was told by a very well known gunsmith, who was s friend of the departed, that he seems to remember Frank Wells building the gun. The quality seems to be up to snuff, but even if...
the mag is going to be your biggest hiccup. other guns your can alter the magazine box or feed rails, but tikka feed from a detachable mag, and they don't offer anything that is close to the right size in factory form. also, you're trying to load a very fat cartridge from a narrow loading...

I came across some components in an estate sale, if any of you are local/semi local I'd like to chat. Can't ship the berdan primers without serious expense so it would need to be in person. Happy to discuss more if anyone is curious!
usually very good, yes. his stamping isn't pretty, but the work is very highly spoken of. I checked gunbroker, there are a decent amount of choices under $500 for a donor. Only thing you gotta watch is barrel profile, Jesse requires at least .100 per side, so in your case minimum .558"...
if you're in the US, try to find a good deal on a 270 or 30-06 you like, and send it to JES Reboring in Oregon. He can rebore it to 35 Whelen for 250, and that includes shipping back to you. Takes about 2 weeks. 35's command premiums lately, you likely can come out ahead vs buying a 35...
After you let your gunsmith know the finished length you want, he would cut the threads to match your CZ, run a chamber reamer in, install and check headspace, and there you go. Any smith with a lathe can thread and chamber a barrel blank. This would make a very handy 404, its not their...

blast from the past! I was googling load data for the 376 and this post was near the top haha. Gunsmith is dropping off the barreled action this Saturday. I knew it had been a while but not THIS long. It was a tit for tat arrangement, and he battled covid pretty hard last year, so everything...
the cost savings aren't really that great, but, the quality of the ammo is worth it alone. Being able to use the bullets YOU want, and working on your loads until a 1/2" group becomes routine, those are the biggest advantages.
Plus, it opens up your world to new guns that are handload...
Should be fine, you *may* need to find a mag box for a 458 Win. Midwest may have them in stock.
I went from 25-06 to 400 Whelen on a Model 70 and the smith didn't appear to do any tweeking, a slight bending of the lips should do it if it won't feed
M70 for mine. Currently a 375, I don't need 2 so the factory rifle will get a new barrel. Other is a custom that Tom Jackson also did but with my barrel. My 376 is nearly done, so REALLY don't need 2 375's haha
gorgeous blank! excited to see the finished product.
I actually just ordered my barrel to do my 400 H&H! Same smith that did @AZDAVE and my 400 Whelen's, same barrel contour as well. I'm going to build this one a bit differently, shorter barrel.
