    Sako 9.3x62 Groups - Thoughts?

I too would be inclined to think it is the action loose somewhere (not loose action bolts necessarily but basically needing proper bedding). Bedding will not hurt it and will eliminate that variable at least.

    Zastava M70 Stainless in 7x64

Well...I have since "polished" the action a bit. It is now as slick as I can make it and almost rivals my other "Mausers". Still need to do the sights. Getting the heights of front and rear right proved a bit difficult. Simple geometry, yet it seems like black magic is involved somewhere, LOL...

    Short Barreled 9.3x62 rifle

You are right. I’m actually thinking of putting a slightly bigger scope on it and stretching the 9.3 legs a bit. Just to see.

That is very nice. I believe any rifle can have issues and many can be fixed witha bit of love.

    Zastava 458 WM action length

Yup. I had a Mark X in .375 and yes, just like Mauser 98 action can be made to accommodate the longer cartridges, I'm sure M70 can be made to work with the .458 Lott. I just thought starting with .300WM one, .458 WM might be less work - well at least in the magazine and ramp area. As another...

    Zastava 458 WM action length

The zastava being a standard length action, I'd just do it as a 458 WM.

Disappointed In My New 404 Jeffery

Interesting. I too had a Whitworth Interarms Mark X. It was in 375 H&H. It was slimmer and lighter than the CZ 550 and yet felt great to shoot. I attributed that solely to the stock design and fit. I sold the rifle but miss the stock.

Disappointed In My New 404 Jeffery

I know. That´s why i commented how old the post was. I was simply focusing on the Ruger stocks. Stock fitment was discussed before/above also but I was just confirming that Ruger stocks do not fit everyone and if for me CZs fit better maybe the OP would have found those more forgiving also.

Disappointed In My New 404 Jeffery

I know this is old but if I recall the rifle was a Ruger RSM. Those stocks beat me up more than anything else I have shot. My CZ 550 in 458 Lott was very comfortable compared to the RSM 416 Rigby. That one hurt after 6 shots. The 458 Lott RSM i only took 2 shots out of and sold it. I could shoot...

Ok. I don’t have it or any of the other b&c stocks anymore so can’t check.

    Which CZ550?

I used to have the 458 Lott. In the Kevlar stock i found it nice to shoot and accurate. It felt like other B&C stocked rifles. Plasticky but not hollow actually as i think they are foam filled. Like all cz magnums i thought it would have benefited from shortening the barrel. But sold it to a guy...

    Which CZ550?

Beautiful rifle. Merry Christmas. Just shoot it as it is. Don’t worry about scratches. Or do buy the Bell&Carlson synthetic stock for magnum (not long) action . Those have straighter comb if you’re gonna run a scope as mentioned. Either stock i would glass bed the action and you might be...

    Ugly question: 9.3x62 vs .338WM

    Ugly question: 9.3x62 vs .338WM

Oh yeah. In my ramblings above I forgot to mention that the CZ550 FS I have is also 20" yet much "quieter" and more pleasant to shoot than that 20" Sako FS in .338. So I agree with MISportsman.

    Ugly question: 9.3x62 vs .338WM

I was much younger then and my other magnum was a Zkk 602 in .375 h&h. Even that was more pleasant to shoot i think. But it was heavy so eventually i sold both. Kind of wish i had kept the 375 though.

    Ugly question: 9.3x62 vs .338WM

That is why I got rid of it. Friends still have them and every time I shoot one, I'm glad I have the 9.3. I'd sooner get a .35 Whelen before another .338 WM. As good as that thing is.

    Ugly question: 9.3x62 vs .338WM

6.5x54 would probably fit nicely. But I do not have brass, or dies and don't feel like getting yet another "obsolete" caliber. Have enough of those. Plus it is still longer than 6.5 CM. So wanting to try heavier 6.5 bullets, CM it is. Here is some comparison: The 6.5 SWE and 6.5CM highlighted...

    Ugly question: 9.3x62 vs .338WM

I think the FST (Win black talon) bullets were 230 gr and probably over 2700 fps. Like I said a hammer. We love that ammo in all calibers we had - 30-06, 7mm RM, .300WM and the .338 WM. I too had that .338 WM rifle as a gun for grizzly country. Sako Finnbear with full stock and 20" barrel. LOL...

    Ugly question: 9.3x62 vs .338WM

I can only imagine what the 300 would do. I think I was shooting 200 or 220gr black talons at the time. It was only deer but they were drt even with heart shots. 300 in .338 or .310 in .35 at 2400-2500 sounds like a lot of bang

    Ugly question: 9.3x62 vs .338WM

And when you were a kid, the 338Wm was ultra-modern! :ROFLMAO: Not laughing at you, but the fact that when something new lasts long enough it will get eventually viewed as vintage, obsolete and not needed, dare we say useless. Wonder what people will say about 6.5 Creed in few decades :D (I do...

    Ugly question: 9.3x62 vs .338WM

I may actually have a barrel chambered in 6.5 manbun. Simply because I have a .308 with a magazine that will not fit the 6.5x55 and I have a left over 6.5 barrel. Should make a cool little shooter.

You be the Judge! Caliber Question

I do too. We will see. Not as much time for hunting this season I'm afraid. I hope you get your moose. My buddy got one last year and shared some meet. Just ground some up for burgers. Very good meat.

You be the Judge! Caliber Question

Oh yah. I was wondering. On my phone it does not show where you are from but I thought if in Alberta moose starts Nov. Which WMU did you get drawn for? I got drawn for cow elk in the late season. You be the Judge! Caliber Question

I liked all the 30-06 suggestions. Fast 165gr will do it. For variety you could use the 06 on moose and elk and the 7x57 on the deer. Or use the 7x57 on everything. My buddy kills elk with 25-06 120gr Nosler Partitions all the way to 480 meters so far. Oh yeah...and you need a 9.3x62 and 8x57...

Best scopes out there with German #4 reticle

I like simple mildot for hunting at various ranges. Trijicon has the center dot lit, so that would be my choice). Otherwise any dot reticle really makes you focus on that aimpoint. I wish they made regular hunting scopes with reticles like Trijicon has on their ACOG such as: or No batteries...

    Iron Sights. Yes or no?

I now have 2 hunting rifles without sights but they will be added on at some point. Failing eyes restrict my use of them somewhat but if I can see the target I can still hit it. 9x57...Can it be rechambered to 35 Whelen to safely use .358 bullets?

Well I did not “ruin” it but the barrel is off, action was cleaned and is ready for anither barrel. Either 8x57 or 9.3x62. Keeping it simple by not purchasing more dies, bullets, etc. Just like the Whelen, can never have too many 7x57, 8x57 or 9.3x62 rifles. :D

    Couple of ZG 47s

If you could choose: Brno Z, ZG 47, ZKK or Cz 550??

True but for my kind of hunting few granules of unburnt powder or few fps don't matter. Besides I would use heavy bullets just to see how it would do compared to 7x57.
