I have the same memories of the smell of spent shotgun shells, but from the 50’s. Those old 10 gauge paper hull, old powder loads of Dad’s had a smell all their own. Nothing like plastic hull newer powder shells of today.
My mother loved calf liver. At our house it was eat what is on the table or go hungry. Always went to bed without supper every time we had liver. In my opinion liver is a waste of good onions and is only good for catfish bait. Shot a moose years ago and was told moose liver was nothing like any...
My rifle is a semi-custom 6.5 A Square with a 26” fluted #4 contour barrel. When working up a load I want to shoot for accuracy and velocity at the same time, killing two birds with one stone. Hard to keep the darn thing in the exact same location with the same tension for a 5 shot group. As I...
I have one. Changes barrel harmonics drastically on my rifle. I shoot 8” high when it’s installed. My $.02. OK for getting velocity, but can’t shoot for accuracy at the same time. Might not affect all rifles as it does mine however.
What’s a fair travel agent fee? I’ve had money on airfare for 2 years. April 2020 trip to SA canceled due to no flights (Covid). April 2021 trip canceled same reason. For September 2021 the airlines (Delta) canceled return flight shortening hunt by a day plus a half day for Covid test. Did not...
Really spooky when an owl suddenly appears right next to you when you are sitting in your tree stand. Happened a couple of times and I never heard a thing. My brother leaned out from his tree stand and an owl flew into him.
I haven’t hunted snows in years. Folks around here call them “sky carp”. They say if you mix them 50/50 with pork they are edible. 50/50 that’s 1 goose and a 300lb hog
New owner of Oldest Gunmaker in America won’t fix my Gun.
This an email I sent to Rem Arms the new owner of the gun maker portion of Remington.
I have a Remington 870 Express 20 gauge youth shotgun. I am the original owner purchased 20+ years ago. This weekend my great nephew shot his first...
Don’t like having to go down to the bottom of the first page to jump to the last post. Option should be at the top of the page as before or am I missing something.
The smell of a fired paper shotgun shell from the 1950’s. The new ones aren’t the same. I’d follow Dad through the snow picking up the rabbits and smelling the empties.
I either fry the breast like chicken strips or cut in 3” cubes, marinate in Italian dressing, rap in bacon with a jalapeño and cook indirectly on the grill. Tastes like pork loin. Legs are only fit for soup.
I filled my two tags from the same tree 17 days and 2 minutes apart. One at 25 yds, the other at 35yds. Hunted 4 mornings over 3 weeks at two different properties. In birds every time. Just lucky as a lot folks had a tough time.
Tagged out! #2 down. Went out early this morning. Set up a jake and hen decoy an hour before daylight. About a half hour later a gobble sounded off I figured 75-80 yards away. Five minutes later another gobbled 30 -40yards behind me. For the second time this season I’m between two gobblers...
I’ve been twice this week trying to fill my second tag. Been close both times but never got off safety. Going again in the morning. Turkey hunting is like crack cocaine especially if you’re too old to elk hunt anymore.
I was scheduled to be hunting in South Africa this week which was obviously canceled so all I had to look forward to was our opening week of turkey season. Not having much time for preseason scouting I planned to return to a spot where I had success before and was only a few miles from home. So...
