Why all the 6.5 Creedmoor Hate?

I honestly hunt with any number of rifles. I've killed deer with 30-30, 6.5 grendel, 6.5 creedmoor, 45-70, 375 raptor subs, 270, 308, 300 win mag, 30-06, 280 ackley... probably most with a 270 (130 grains at 3160 still gets it done). I have a nostalgic streak (for an hunting era at least 30...

    Chuck Hawks Recommended Hunting Riflescopes

I've generally found agreement with my view of the products he tested and his ratings. He was a small business that wasn't paid to test and seemed fairly unbiased. His tastes also ran to the traditional, like many here. (Walnut and blued bolts versus synthetic ARs) but he never cast stones. He...

    Kimber Caprivi 375 H&H

My talkeetna is more of a hybrid crf/push as I understand it. It pushes the cartridge forward then controls the cartridge as it is chambering. It does not control from the beginning of the stroke. It has a large Mauser extractor but doesn't control the cartridge as much as my Interarms Mark X...

    New to Muzzle loader

I'm aware of the drama, but personally ascribe to the idiot theory. I've had no problems with mine and I do like my thumbs. I would think a double charge in a muzzleloader or bore obstruction (from accidentally double loading powder and bullets, which is I think Randy Wakemans theory) would...

    My Hunting Suppressors

My daughter is extremely sensitive to recoil and noise. So much so that it kept her from wanting any part of hunting. Suppressors make all the difference for her. She is 12 now and runs a 6.5 grendel with a silencerco harvester 300 on it. The flinch is gone and the gun is more than enough for...

    New to Muzzle loader

I don't know what the restrictions on muzzleloaders are in colorado, however Savage made a 10 ml2 smokeless muzzleloader which was phenomenal. Less recoil then black powder, and a 300 grain bullet at 2400 ft per second is pretty effective. In North Carolina it's legal for muzzleloader season but...

    Americans Not Taking Paid Vacations

I'm an employed surgeon. 7 weeks vacation, none of it paid. Many of my partners don't take it all due to the golden handcuff effect. They can't see past the lost revenue and that drives them to keep churning. I take every last day and can't imagine it any other way. If they offered me to work...

Tungsten buckshot for leopard follow up?

According to KPY shotshell ballistics, tungsten number 1 buck has 57% more penetration than lead 00 buck.. (1250 fps load gives 15 inches in gel at 32 yards versus 9.3 inches for the 00 buck). What does that mean for bears? I have absolutely no clue, but physics is fun and tss is good stuff...

Tungsten buckshot for leopard follow up?

No experience with wounded leopards. Lots of experience with tungsten. It would absolutely work. There is a guy in North Carolina who stocks and sells tss in all sizes. He is as reasonable as tungsten gets (still very pricy), and has loads of reloading data for whatever you want. I bought some...

Why all the 6.5 Creedmoor Hate?

Just curious, but why is the 6.5 Creedmoor so reviled? Certainly it has its limitations, but so does every cartridge. I wouldn't take a 22 LR for whitetail any more than I would take a Creedmoor for elephant (W.D.M Bell notwithstanding). That said, I came to hunting as an adult and my young son...

best bolt action for dangerous games

While I have minimal dangerous game experience (and none in Africa) , I have experienced enough failures of factory loaded ammo to convince me that commercial loadings are not always the answer. I've had an entire box of 5 rounds of 12 gauge buckshot that would not chamber in a mossberg 500...

    280 ackley partition or tsx

My 280 ai loves the 145 lrx. 140 tsx or ttsx would be perfect as well. I am a huge barnes fan in general but the heavier bullets tend to be very long and need a faster rate of twist than my bergara has.

Can plains game A Frames or TSX bullets be 30% lighter?

I don't think you can push a barnes too fast really. You will shed petals but the animal still dies. The tsx doesn't open as violently but I'm not sure if they make a 110 .277 tsx

What is the best car you have ever owned?

My grandfather had a Ford 4400 industrial backhoe he bought from the state. The hour meter turned over 10k hours twice before it broke and that was before I was born. No glow plugs but always started immediately even on the coldest days with only a shot of ether. We dug basements, cleared...

Can plains game A Frames or TSX bullets be 30% lighter?

No plains game experience yet, but I've killed a mess of deer with a 110 ttsx in a 270. Loaded up that thing is moving 3550 fps at the muzzle and is deadly on the small deer we have here. Plus recoil is less and trajectory is laser like. Within reason I think the same would apply to most...

The best era to have lived

Every Era has its ups and downs. I've often thought i would like to live in the 1920s or even the 1950s, but whenever I am tempted to wish, I think of all the old graveyards I've been to where there were many women who died in childbirth and infants who died before they were named. I live in...

    30-30 swift a-frame

No personal experience, however swift says the lever bullets are designed to open up between 1200fps and 2700fps impact velocity. That should work beautifully for a 30-30 at appropriate range and game. I personally love the 30-30 (with barnes tsx 150s for lever guns, which has a huge...

I have bought two winchester model 70s. Both brand new circa 2016 or so. One was a supergrade maple stock in 270. Beautiful gun.
