More ammo, that’s my pockets at least.
Among other things I’ve tried in the past I carried a water bottle and space blanket, first aid walking the hills
Lately as I mostly walk the creek in search of pigs it’s a simple belt, knife, ammo slide. A torch or a headlamp to make it back as I hunt...
Opinions vary but a 1" tube probably will no affect hunting in reasonable ranges.
It should not affect light transmission it brightness.
It will be lighter in weight than a comparable 30mm tube.
It may have less turret adjust many than a 30mm tube back to my opening comment.
I think it's an...
On the Z5(I) question when I looked at the Official Swarovski site and opened the Z5(I) tab I can see Z5 are listed under that tab .
So both illuminated Z5(I) non illuminated are listed under the same tab. Pictured below.
Thanks Bruce, you may have been an influence on the decision.
I have Bob .35’s endorsement on the choice of chambering but I’m not sure he stated it in open forum. :A Stirring:
I have paid deposit on a .25-06 and plan to rebarrel it as .280ai
It’s been interesting reading and discussion...
Because my current fixation is for a .280ai and it will be my first say less common chambering but I’ve spent so much time finding information to convince me it’s the right decision that I do not want Tom entertain the idea of a .270, you are just adding to the confusion, pleas reassure m that a...
Nice, the Ebony handle looks like what I might expect this style to look like it’s it was a traditional Chinese version. I realise this is custom but that does not look out of place to me.
I quite like the finish on the metal. I guess you are saying the grind is not right as you expect to...
G’day , and welcome from Australia.
Good luck with the sale, I hope you enjoy the site and it gives you some comfort with your ailment. One thing I can say is that you will find plenty to read and pass the time.
Doesn’t matter if it’s just hunting.
Use a condom and hunt more, take note young fellas there could be some good advice in that.
I had heard of the using electrical tape on the end.
Thanks for the tip on keeping the rifle at outside temps due to humidity. That hasn’t been an issue with my...
Bear, now there is something worth selling the kids for. A nice bearskin rug. I would want that trophy
See I would not want to take my CZ550 in the snow, I would maybe Cerakote it and use a composite stock, or take my .300wm stainless laminate, or
“I have an idea”
I could buy another rifle.
The .375H&H seems easy enough to get hold of but it’s not in every small store, at least not in Australia.
The .458 Lott can fire .458wm ammo for .458wm performance.
I almost rechambered my .458 to be. Lott but sold it to pay for a .375H&H, I could not justify both and I thought the .375 was...
Great idea, then you can add a Cape Buffalo to that delayed trip.
@Philip Glass I reckon we all have ideas. Some I keep to myself, my wife does not support all of my ideas. I have lots of good ideas! They usually cost money.
Back to your post, do we upsize our current deer rifle?
I’m not a...
Thanks, it’s all interesting.
I am sure I read comments about a few Z5 not holding Zero.
I also spoke with someone who said he Nd his mates had issues with Z5 not holding Zero. Repaired and old to get z6-z8
Glass and clarity never seem to be an issue.
Also. I see Swarovski listed for sale in different models. Z5 being of interest, price jumps again from there.
On the Swarovski website I see Z5 (I) listed and no Z5.
It does not appear to be illuminated. I cannot find a reference to the (I) designation.
Would the (I) designate improved...
Hi, would you mind telling how that scope is going. If you see above post I am after something as a versatile hunting scope and that might be worth considering . They all are worth considering this might fit my idea of versatile too.
How have these scopes held up? I’m expecting they did but I’m interested in one. Yes just one but I think it might be a versatile scope and good choice for my latest obsession.
Would you let me know and or comment on this post.
I’ve wanted a Swarovski scope for a while but I’ve heard of one or 2 people who have had or know of several that have been poor quality.
I know anything can fail or you might get a Lemon.
Does this happen very often with Swarovski?
The latest was a bloke saying he and his mates had a...
@arizonajake I’ve handled one Kiwi hunting knife knife with a a Micarta handle belongings to an Aussie.
I found it quite grippy and I can see it’s been well used and the owner is very proud of it.
Mr Gruff, I would like to see the finish on the steel on that vegetable chopper it looks like...
Annealing is something I have been aware of for years but I wanna under the impression it is more to do with case life etc. I have some .308 cases starting to work harden at the case neck and these have been shelved.
I did read a good article on annealling and will red some more.
I do have the Hornady COAL too, an old Ohaus 10/10 scale still working.
I need to replace a case trimmer or replace the shell holder end on an old Redding trimmer.
I do not own a chronograph. It could be in my future.
I will be starting with new Nosler cases to suit the .280ai and...
@fourfive8 I agree on 2 counts
One, there is a point of chasing a diminishing return.
Two @bruce moulds Covered it quite well, I have him on speed dial if stuff it up.
To put it into perspective I’ve never got into serious target shooting, Rarely attending the club except to sign in or...
And this, I now know how to turn my .223 into a real deer rifle.
Copied from:that very article!
The radical structure of these cases will surely increase the performance of my .223 if only I can see how they fit.
Thanks Bob for resurrecting this thread. .
I have shot Fallow deer with a .223...
Y’know Bob didn’t mean that’s last sentence about “in hindsight the .308 would have done both of us”
Nobody ever heard Bob say
"Whew, I'm sure glad I left the .35Whelen at home on this trip."
Never said Bob when hunting ever..
@BeeMaa , sorry I edited your quote.
Your point is...
I’m glad you have thought it through and have understanding.
I’m glad you asked the question, it doesn’t hurt to ask.
We all have an opinion and you know the situation better than us, it’s good to work through and learn from it.
Agreed, I think it’s just finding a happy medium she can shoot well and I like 7mm bore and own a .300wm.
I thought you were going to prescribe a .270 till reading your next post. I think it’s important that clean kills are achieved as otherwise it may be a bad experience for the new shooter.
Well, I did not shoot a Zebra but I was going to chime in suggesting she might want her very own 7mm-08.
I believe the 7mm-08 hits hard with easily manageable recoil.
I believe that accuracy matters, shot placement is paramount. Hitijng it in the ass end because she pulled the shot would...
There should be plenty of support for Blaser here.
In Australia an action case and 2 barrels might be $10,000. That puts a damper on it for me. Adding quality optics will be another jump but hose who travel say it’s the way to go.
What Blaser do offer is options from .22lr up to some big bore...
Better to be safe than sorry.
Maybe you did collect some cases from another rifle, many have.
Pull them and deprive carefully, it’s just 20 primers.
If they do get stuck or you pull a projectile when you try unload a loaded round it could just be a wasted range trip or worse a hunting...
A Lee auto prime is like the 310 loader with a tray to take 100primers.
It’s available in a kit with all the common shell holders . Reasonably priced and pretty popular I think.
The shell holders used in the auto prime are not press shell holder they are really just the top part without the...
