"New" Toy - Off Chassis Restoration - 1969 Toyoda Land Cruiser

I bought one in the same color, new, in 1978. It was one of the first diesel Toys in BC . Great rig. Sold it for what I paid a few years later to help finance an extended trip to South America. Always wanted another. But this is my hunting rig now. Congratulations!

My brother is going to have a rifle such as you describe built in .300WSM. carbon barrel, muzzle brake, recoil dampers in stock. It will have some sort of scope that uses a ballistic turret, and has a Fire Dot or illuminated reticle. Don't like the muzzle brake? Go to a 270 or 270WSM 130 or...

You might tell us about yourself, even flesh out your bio. I too was born in Utah. Love the state, especially the southern part. But then my dad was working in mining during the 50's uranium boom there. I spent the first year of my life living in a trailer in the desert near Moab, so I...

Following up on the rifle misfire issue, I took it to the gunsmith who installed the barrel. Dave Jennings is a very well respected gunsmith in western Canada, and specializes in this sort of thing. (@Bob Nelson 35Whelen, @375 Ruger Fan @Ridge Runner ) He checked the tolerances between the...

Thanks @Ridge Runner . I will follow up on the gun issue when I know more. Yes it did misfire at the range about 1 in 15 rounds. I first tried flushing with brake clean and then went to the range and shot some rounds. It seemed fine, so I assumed everything was good. I also changed primers and...

Dense foliage was making it tough to find a place to call from. Wait, there was an opening. As I stepped up into it; I noticed a lot of elk bones on the ground. Most likely a yearling. No vegetation was growing for about a six foot radius. Ground was turned up, but the blood on the bones was...

Covid Hunger - Kenyans Forced To Hunt Giraffe For Food

I was raised on a cattle ranch in Northern British Colombia. We were poor. There was no way we could afford to eat beef and never did. All meat was 'bush meat' most of it I shot. Those folks may only own a few animals, they most likely get milk from them and they represent their only asset. They...

    35 Whelen vs 338-06

Well the 35 Whelen gets my vote. Bigger is better... but honestly I would not be critical of the 338-06. In Canada either one is a hand load proposition. For the Whelen all I see for factory loads are some 200 gr Superperformance, and some anemic Remington soft points. If you are lucky. One...

    Bison kills hunter

It would be interesting to know the caliber used. Hard to say, but odds are it would along the lines of a 7mmRM, 30-06, 300 mag, or 338WM. These are pretty common in the North. Of course it doesn't matter what is used if not a vital hit. Better a .243 through the boiler room than a 458 Lott...

What to do with a giraffe

Phillipe, although I did not read all replies on this thread, I doubt anyone is offended, but rather surprised. What to do with a giraffe

I was told by my PH that Waterbuck meat is very good if you take great care not to let the hair contaminate it. As to giraffe, the ol 'stink' bull I shot was turned into sausage etc.
