Today I have two combos:
.22 LR - 12 gauge - 7x57 - 9,3x62
.22 LR - 12 gauge - .30-06 - .375 H&H
VERY NICE and USEFUL rifle!
Thank you Mark. I would like to know this.
Congrats for your nice Rigby Mauser!
A question: is the trigger a modified military one?
Very nice rifle in one of my favorite cartridges. More, I see the general rifle configuration as ideal for a 7x57 Mauser !!! I have no...
Hi Andrew (by the way, my second name is Andres=Andrew),
I am inclined to think the same: the Nosler P 175 grs in the 7x57, at around 2600 f/s,...
This mini skinner is a great knife design! The balde shape is perfect for my taste and uses as a general hunting knife. What is the blade...
Very good and a most useful advice!
Have a Happy New Year!
I have not been in Africa, yet. But I have been a big game hunter for the past 45 years. Mainly for big Red Deer and wild boars. I have made...
Talking about lighter bullets for the 9,3x62, the first big game animal I got with mine was a Red Deer in May this year. I use the FOX 220 grs...
You cannot do better with R15 for this! Can get 2600 f/s very easy. Start at 60 grs and stop when you reach 2600/2650 f/s.
If your rifle is an Original Sporting Mauser in good shape it would not be too smart to change anything.
Agree with 2L8 on "What Do We Require in a Scope."
By the way, a friend has just bought a Nightforce NXS 2,5-10x42. After I saw it (I have...
Agree! "In the field, on game, there is (should be) no noticeable difference with similar bullets"!!
It is not to start a big debate...
The weight "between the hands" is more important, to me, than even a pound more o less....
By the way, to me, a good Mauser or BRNO ZKK 600 in 9,3x64 should weight not more than 4 kg, fully loaded and dressed, around 8,5 lbs.
From the ballistic viewpoint, all else being the same (barrel length, pressure, et al) the 9,3x64 is NOT a .375 H&H equal. It falls just in...
375 H&H (lately I am shifting from my beloved .375 to my also beloved 9,3x62...)
Thank you 686
Good! As I wrote in September 22th, the pitch of the extractor at its lowest point is what I saw as the main cause of the tight...
Good for you, 686!!
May I ask: do you know what is your gunsmith did to fix the problem?
Je..! No problem! Thank you for your answer. Very nice rifle, indeed!
Me neither see anything wrong in any part of the extractor. I say again the tight fit can be the variations of the diameter in the extractor...
Redfield used to offer a really neat peep sight attached at the rear of their bases, both one or two pieces bases.
To me this is one of the...
Of course! I would do the same.
Mi "vote" also BUY IT!!!!!
I change what I was thinking...Its looks as a correct extractor for a standard Magnum Belted case. Anyway, I do prefer a rather tight...
Very nice rifle! Looking, carefully, at your pictures, its seems to me the extractor is for a standard 30-06 cartridge rim. Any GOOD...
Seems to be made with a true Magnum Mauser action. Also seems, to me, to have been re-blued.
So, nice "shooting", not "display"...
"The Hunting Game"
I use the 7x57 since 1972. I have hunted with it for big Red Deer and Wild boar.
To me, there are no better big game bullets for the 7 mm...
Agree with Red Leg.
I use in my rifles Warne scope mounts. Works like Talley. Both very good systems.
BUT, ideally, the bases MUST be...
VERY nice Mauser!!! Congrats. !
I know. But Speer, whose tables for 160 and 175 grs bullets I uploaded, shows another criteria. NORMA and RWS as well. The factory...
I bet 47 grs, will do in your lovely BRNO 21 and its long chamber throat ! It is a rather mild load. Even with Remington or RWS...
I would try the Nosler Partition 125 grs. Like all N P, the front part is very soft and expands, usually, at very low velocities. And...
Hi Cousin Bongo,
Right! That's the main virtue of the TRUE Mauser 98 extractor design!
Really, A LOT more important than the controlled FEED!!!...
VERY NICE RIFLE!!!
Has a new barrel or the integral base for the rear sight was removed?
Care must be taken, in a modification like this, to put a stop IN FRONT of the trigger, in the trigger guard slot, to preserve the original Mauser...
Like rookhawk said. Far more important is a clean and crisp trigger pull that "breaks like a glass rod when pressed" than even 1 kg lighter...
Here are SPEER most recent load data for 160 and 175 grs bullets.
My two favorites powders for heavy bullets in the 7x57 (I reload mines since 1973...) are R19 and R22.
In a rifle with a C.I.P....
Hi Rule 303,
Just a "tiny" detail about M17 extractor. The M17, Springfield, Win 54 and 70 and ALL the pre 98 Mausers, have NOT a true M98 Mauser...
I see you have made two commentaries I see are rather common in some places but, in my experience, wrong.
The first is "My concern with...
I preffer a camera. I do not know a better one than the Olympus TG series. I have tthe TG 1 since 2012, right after its introduction. Now...
