I do not know Red Leg and from his posts I have no desire to.
I do know Craig Boddington.
Pretty easy to chastise someone on a open forum when the person being chastised is not privy to the conversation or can defend himself. There are many who fail in business ventures. Did Craig hurt you...
Oh boy. Now you are also a expert and student regarding Craig Boddington on both his personal and business life. Geeeez is there anything that you are not a expert on??
Pretty large man who can discuss another man’s life without walking in his shoes. Very easy to have a one sided conversation...
Argument or the truth .
The R8 action has design problems (the actions are machined to to close of tolerances) the actions are prone to jam up with sand . Not ideal for DG hunting.
I was pretty excited when the R8 was introduced a while back .I thought I wanted one. After all the safety...
Red Leg ,
Rudeness, Really? maybe you are the internet expert I am speaking of.
Owning a bunch of guns that have no history and sound like they have never been used does not make one a expert. Again , rattling off a bunch of names of the various rifles you possess does not make you a expert...
I love hunting rifles. I spend enough time at the gun club to have shot about every type of hunting rifle used today. My discussion is primarily directed at some of the newer hunters who are trying to get informed opinions and experiences. There are many DGR options available used and new...
Why do the PH’s who are hunting DG and the great bears chose not to use the Blaser R8’s?
I am not talking about the outfitters who run the high fence concessions in SA in a semi controlled environment, but the
the PH’s hunting wild Africa as in Tanzania or the great bear guides in Alaska.
I didn’t read the article. I have been traveling with hunting Guns for 30+ years. I have always traveled with a substantial two gun case . Never have I been in a situation with customs , TSA or airlines where having two guns in my gun case was treated any differently than if I had only one gun...
The popular Rigby Highland Stalker is now being offered in .300 Win Mag..
What’s the deal with the huge price increase for the new .300 Win Mag ($19,995.00 U.S.D.)
over the .275 Rigby and 9.3X62 at ($10,995.00) that’s like a 50% price hike. Is this a misprint?
The regular line Highland...
I recently went through pretty thorough research on the current remanufacture of the “Mauser branded” Mauser 98 Magnum action built over the past 35 years or so . I found three different Mauser branded manufacturers over that time, Rhinemetal , Prechtl, Blaser Group. I have owned a...
The current Mauser Magnum 98 actions used on both the Rigby and Mauser rifles is now made in-house by the Blaser Group in Isny Germany, Prechtl has not been making the current Blaser Group Mauser actions for quite sometime.
A costly feature??
Your comment “ not many people left that can do a plum (purple) finish” is priceless.
Looks to me as a very old attempt at a refresh many years ago, along with a stock sanding. Looks as though many areas the checkering is flattened out and about gone too.
From my experiences I will never purchase another bolt action DGR .375 H&H thru the .500’s without knowing 100% that the seller has the technical ability , proper skill sets, machines and available parts to make the rifle feed and function as a DGR. Marc at Rigby London has the crew to do this...
Congrats on your new position.
You are fortunate to be associated with Rigby’s director Marc Newton who has a fabulous worldwide reputation for his experience and customer service. Marc runs his business at very high level , a true company man.
I would hunt buffalo with your .416 Rigby and bring a .300/.338 Mag to hunt plains game with after you have taken your buffalo, you can also shoot plains game with your .416 Rigby. I travel with a Pelican 1750 case and with just a little more effort I can bring two rifles , which I prefer to do...
I am having a major problem with one of their African rifles that can not be resolved by their USA division in Texas. The Texas Blaser division will not give me their email address, pretty bad customer service. The rifle was sold in a unsafe condition.
Can I just add “ please PM me” ?
The best USA rifles are built by the likes of a D’Arcy Echols. Most semi custom production rifles like a Dakota ( I have owned a dozen) still usually need some stock or action work for them to be reliable. There are exceptions , I have had a couple excellent trouble free and super accurate...
Mauser name is owned by a conglomerate (Blaser Group). They have been selling the same Mauser 98 rifle without the DWM badging for several years. I agree the DWM name all over the action and bottom metal is too much.
The 7mm/08 is a great round and we have shot a lot of white tails with the 140 gr Nosler Partitons. For Zebra and Kudu I would feel more comfortable with a 30.06 and 180grain Noslers or a .280 Rem or Ackley shooting 160gr Noslers. I have seen petite 5’2” women at the range handle large bore...
Curious if the German Gun Manufacturers like Blaser have remained open as an essential business similar to the USA manufacturers during the pandemic? Have they remained open during the entire time or have they had reopening or closures?
My woods whitetail gun which is a 7mm/08 is sighted in @100yds
.375H&H is sighted in @60yds
The rest are primarily set up for western mountain hunting and they are sighted in dead on @200yds and practiced at up to 500yds
Do you really believe and think the reporting from China , the epicenter of the virus is being reported accurately?
China only reported 85,000 cases. Really??
I believe China’s number is probably 10 times the number of cases they reported.
I also believe over 100,000 deaths in China.
$7428.00 USD for a new Mauser 98 Magnum Mauser would be a good price here in the US. We do not see many on the shelves
A new basic Heym Martini with very plain wood was priced at $9000.00, not sure if that was the final number.
New Dakota’s are overpriced in my opinion. You can find a...
Rookhawk offers good advice.
I removed the Warne quick detach rings from the Zeiss scope.
As I expected , the tube is perfect. Sterling Davenport had mounted the scope , I guess he is pretty experienced with that process.
Two really nice rifles. These were made during Sako’s golden years, with a much higher degree of finish than the current Sako line. I was told by a large dealer to price the .375H&H at $1100 and the brand new 40 year old 7MM REM MAG at $1200. Easy for me to email/text photos. Must ship to your FFL
$800 Garcia Import 7MM Rem Mag NEW , swivel shipping cardboard still attached ,all original collector safe stored gun for 40 years . Pad is squished from safe storage. Factory front sights.Dark wood.
$875 Stoeger Import 375 H&H Real High Condition, all original, collector who had the rifle 35...
It's my favorite round for moose and elk.
I use the 250 grain Nosler partition exclusively. I have not been able to exceed the factory ammo ballistics. My reloads with Norma MRP get right at 2900fps. Less the 1" moa consistently.
My gun is a Dakota Safari grade with a 25" barrel with a...
The DAKOTA's can be fine rifles. Check with Talley. The last rifle I acquired needed special Talley rings to fit the Dakota bases. I believe the Dakota Talley bases are milled shorter, and the standard Talley rings will not fit. I just went through this with Talley.
I was planning a late August safari in Tanzania with my step son for his college graduation. However the young man has accepted a job starting mid July so are plans have changed.
We are looking for experienced suggestions/ideas for a 10 day hunt along with some travel days in a non fenced free...
Congratulations! Great Shiras bull with a lot of character. Those old bulls
can eat really good (tender) when they haven't been running around and are killed when they have been cooled off and resting like yours. In my opinion the best meat in North America. What did your outfitter have to say...
Enjoy your hunt! Curious to hear what your outfitter has to say what the wolves have done to the moose population . That is some of the most beautiful country in the whole world. Are you going to be doing some calling.
