Through or against the other side of the skin, what are your thoughts

Hi Jim, I am not talking about "crossing my fingers and hoping..."! It is a decision to not shoot an animal inside a herd with a bullet that probably will pass through! If I were to hunt herd animals, I would use a very good bullet designed to not pass and wound another animal. Probably a Swift...

Through or against the other side of the skin, what are your thoughts

Hello, I like an entrance (on the right spot) and an exit (also leaving at the right spot) hole. By far! The only situation I would not like this, would be the one were there is a posibility to wound another animal at the far side. I see no problem with a good bleeding exit hole! I have lost a...

Your recommendations - compact and convenient high quality binoculars

Hello Longwalker, I had the same question some years ago to complement my main 10x42. Having had an 8x20 high quality binocular, in spite of being small and light weight, it falls short in optics. So, I end with a 8x32 one. I would do the same today. I bought a Meopta Meostar 8x32 for a very...

Replacement Trigger for an FN Commcercial

Hi Scrumbag, Thinking a little further, you can also make and use a single narrow plate of that thickness with two holes made at the same distance and of the same diameter of the ones in that part of the safety. Anyway, the two washers work great. Good luck CF

Replacement Trigger for an FN Commcercial

Hi Scrumbag, Here. 1,5 mm is the safety plate thickness. I think you can use washers of 1,5 to 1,6 mm may be better the later to avoid any play. Good luck !

Replacement Trigger for an FN Commcercial

Hello Scrumbag, Here are the pictures. The two washers can be easely seen. This trigger is a little jewel, all steel, solid and really fool proof. Not to change anything but the safety to use a Winchester 70 type, a normal Mauser 98 one, or the previous FN mounted on the bolt, as I preffer...

    What comes before and after a 9.3 x 62?

Hello, I like my rifles/cartridges have similar, if not the same, trajectory with their usual bullet weights. So, before my 9,3x62 I put my 7x57 and, after the 9,3 y would put a 404 Jeffery.

Replacement Trigger for an FN Commcercial

Hello Scrumbag, You can take out the safety part and keep this excelent FN factory trigger. I did it myself in my FN-AKAH 30-06. The ONLY thing that is needed to do is to put two washers of the same thickness instead of the safety plate. Done! I will upload some pictures of this. Best CF

    Rangefinding Binos: Leica vs Swarovski

Hi lvW, Agree!!! I do not use, or have, RF. I use the scope reticle as a RF. All my riflescopes have FFP reticles, german Nr 1 or Nr 4. You must KNOW the animal dimentions as aproximately as you can. Worked more than enough to me. Best! CF

Which rifle do we crown as the best looking ever?

Hi John, To me, the candidates from the early XX century to the early '40s, would be the Mauser Original factory Sporting and Mannlicher-Schoenauer rifles. The Rigby rifles of the period just before the WW I, were "only" imported barreled Mauser actions, even with the sights on, to be stocked...

.375 H&H Magnum bullets : Light weight hunting bullets for longer hunting distances in the Kalahari

Gert, I am reading all this thread. ANY of the bonded core or monometalic bullet from 250 to 270 grs mentioned here, all with very good BC, would be more than adequate! Chose the one YOU and your rifle like, and/or the one more easy to get where you are. Done! Good luck! CF

.375 H&H Magnum bullets : Light weight hunting bullets for longer hunting distances in the Kalahari

Hi Gert, To me, the Accubond 260 grs is the bullet. I have used it for big Red Deer with great results! To me is the basic medium game .375 H&H bullet. I load it at 2800 f/s with R15. Great bullet with high BC and not too expensive! Expands and penetrates in medium game from any angle. Good luck

    35 Whelen vs 9.3x62

    35 Whelen vs 9.3x62

    35 Whelen vs 9.3x62

Hi sestoppelman, Agree, of course about the real differences between 9,3x62/.35 Whelen and the .375 H&H. That 17%, roughly, means the potential velocity increase is around 200 f/s with similar bullets weights, all other being equal. By the way, with my .375 H&H with 25" barrel I can get...

    35 Whelen vs 9.3x62

Hi Laurie, Well said. I agree. Numbers, phisics and thermodynamics cannot be ignored.... I do not have or used the .338 Win Mag. But I used, a lot since 1992, for big deer and wild boar, and lesser animals, the .375 H&H. I have the 9,3x62 since 2017, and I have used it for a relatively few of...

If you could choose: Brno Z, ZG 47, ZKK or Cz 550??

Hi Arthur, Good question...and answer by the way! I agree. I also think any and all of the M98 bu you named are as good or better than the ZG47. Having said this, the ZG has some very good features. To have to chose between them at the same price would be a difficult decision. Best! CF
