Anyone have experience with a Sabatti BIG 5 EDL

I only personally know one person here in Zim. that owns a rimless double (.416R). I do not remember the make. As if now he has not had a problem, but so many people have told him it is just a matter of time that he has that nagging doubt planted in his mind. Personally I would not use one as...

Rifle Lessons Learned from the Zimbabwe Professional Hunter Proficiency Exam

One thing that I believe has been overlooked in the current proficiency test. Is no one uses a double rifle. Since the test is heavily weighted towards running and reloading. It would be very difficult to pass with a dbl. If caliber is .40 it is 10 additional pts.

    Pistol grip reservoir?

Many many years ago I bought a pristine George Gibbs boxlock with pistol grip reservoir. It had two strikers & one front site wrapped in a wax paper. I doubt that they had ever been removed. I have had three George Gibbs, by coincidence within 20 serial number of each other all had the same cap...

    Courteney Safari boots

As a Zimbabwe PH I have this to say about Courtney boots. They are the only boots I own or would wear. I do wear store bought quality insoles. Not the boots fault but mine. If you plan on insoles maybe go 1/2 size larger. Note: If the toe of your sole separates from the the boot YOU ARE SITTING...

    CZ 550 vs Kimber Talkeetna

Personal experience the current CZs can be very rough out of the box. There is a excellent post describing the work that needs to take place. Out of the box I think the Kimber is a smoother action. Not sure on mag. Capacity on Kimber, but like the CZ 5 rd.

For whatever its worth, I think a dbl. in.450- 400 3" or 3 1/4" is one of the most enjoyable rifles to shoot that there is. I think with the woodleigh hydros you will have the (almost) perfect rifle. Congradulations!

    Heym or Verney Carron?

Thanks everyone, Jerome made a speedy contact, now she is leaning towards VC, PH, case color, 24", moon sight, ejector, intercepting sears, merc recoil reducer, kick eez pad, oil finish, coated bbls (not blued). I guess that about sums it up!

I emailed VC about two weeks ago. I have not had a reply does anyone have Jeromes direct e-mail address. There will not be a purchase made until at least we have had correspondence. If time permits we will try to hit the expo, I believe he is supposed to be in attendance.

You asked,I gave a honest reply! I am down to just two doubles + 1 for sale. If I talked about my George Gibbs all I could say is, it's always there, always works, always hits where it is supposed to. Now the other one its a different story. My wife's Heym does the same just makes a smaller...

    Post pictures or not?

Again I am not disagreeing, BUT many of you will remember "press selected" pictures from Vietnam. The little running naked girl burned by napalm & the VC being shot in the head. The effect on the people is still remembered today. A picture can be a double edged knife that cuts both ways.

    Post pictures or not?

I agree with you, unfortunately someone is really (and rightfully) proud of what has been accomplished. So they take a picture put it on Facebook or some Other social media. The wrong person gets it, it goes what they call "viral" who cares about the truth but us, but at the end of the day who...

I am sure this post will cause a great deal of controversy. Of course it is our right to post after the kill, pictures, but should we if they will be used against us. I certainly don't feel bad using mine. Probably gets no more than 20 rds year thru it. Bores are mint & tight as drum. I had a identical g Gibbs 450 400 3 1/4 I think there was about 15 digits difference in serial #s

She has handled and looked at both. She heavily leans towards the Heym says "it looks like it's ready to go to work" (in here best Festus Ken Curtis imitation). Bolt Action Stopping Rifles

I do use two different rifle. .470 george gibbs in dense areas. .416 Rigby in more open areas and when doing croc hippo hunts. Since reloading is not a option I always use Federal Premium with woodleigh. As to cost bought mine used over 40 yrs ago and have never regretted it.
  42. Mlibizi 8182

    Heym or Verney Carron?

As a professional hunter you need to stop the animal not just "shoot the animal and wait for it to die" the .458 .470 class is just about minimum. 500 up is better if the person is comfortable with the weight and recoil.

    Heym or Verney Carron?

How do you explain how a woman thinks. She says she does like all of that little "squiggly stuff" called engraving! I have a nice Westley Richards .450-.400 that stands in the safe. She likes her Heym, I have to admit she is incredibly accurate with it! She is savvy enough that she knows she...

    Bolt Action Stopping Rifles

In a recent article in African Outfitter there is a interview with Zimbabwe PH John Sharp (in my humble opinion) why he switched to a double .470 and has never regretted it. Never could I ever make as fast a second stopping shot with my .416 that I can with my .470

    Bolt Action Stopping Rifles

Maybe some of you have shot doubles trap/skeet/sporting clays. No matter how good you are I think you would find a significant difference in your score between a "bolt action" shotgun and a over and under or side by side, oh did I mention a clay target will not kill you

    Double Rifle With A Difference

Only down side is the longer drop on opening. Since 99% of the time you are not going to be in a "pit" blind no problem and they shoot great. Just the same old double problem regulation/ load development.

    Heym or Verney Carron?

I do respect all of the opinions given. In addition everything that I hear about Jerome is number 1 that makes a big difference. Heym or Verney Carron?

Thanks the decision will be made over the next several months. As I stated I am not a engineer but I lean toward the Heym being stronger. As to being faster to load I have used english doubles all with dolls heads I have never felt that they have interfered with my reloading time. As to fit my...
