I tried running two drop tube on my funnel. Lol I'll probably just stick to RL15 for the Barnes. 69 grains was 2409 average from my 20" barrel. Going to test it from the 23" tomorrow.
Yes, but they didn't list IMR4350. I was start at the bottom because Barnes bullets produce higher pressures. Barnes shows AA 2700 and Win 760 as the fastest powders, but with things as they are, you work with what you have on hand lol
Its the fastest listed powder for a Nosler 300gr, so I decided to try it with the Barnes TSX. Eve at 78 grains, I cant get the bullet seated to 3.30, it keeps pushing back out. 3.345 is the shortest I can get it to stay. Funny though, because you can still hear the powder shake inside. Yet...
No need for speed here. 2550 is my goal now, for a 300 grain TSX on my Buffalo hunt. I know the 23" African can do better, but I'd rather keep pressures lower, and have less chance of a stuck case. The .375 H&H has been doing just fine at those speeds all these years.
Before this African came...
The idea is to bust the heart. I'd use a copper solid before I'd use anything by Lehigh Defense. You're better off with a hard cast solid. They penetrate deeper and won't deflect. The Xtreme Penetrators rarely penetrate straight, even in just ballistic gel. They always turn.
For self defense...
I can't edit my main post here, so I'll have to make a new post when I get all my data together.
African with Wood - 7.4 lbs
African with Hogue - 8.4 lbs
Alaskan with Wood - 7.2 lbs
Alaskan with Hogue - 8.2 lbs
I'm the complete opposite. I love the Hogue stocks. As USMA said, they do a fantastic job of mitigating recoil. I got tired of my my boat paddle Ruger .338 Win Mag leaving my shoulder with a rainbow of bruises lol I put a Hogue on it, and after that, you could shoot 50+ rounds, from the bench...
I've never been able to find anyone who has compared the two side by side.
Well, Saturday I'm trading my Long Range rifle for a Ruger African, thats been Cerakoted. So I now own the Alaskan and African, and I will be doing chrono testing the first day, and I will post all the data here.
Wish I...
It would not let me send him a PM at all. I even tried manually typing the name in. He finally got a message through to me. This site isn't very mobile friendly. Things move slow and act weird at times. For example, the guy selling the .416 Ruger, has pictures posted that are 7mb each. I AM NOT...
My wife "helped" me put my brass away, back before I was setup to reload again. Now I have 60 pieces misplaced lol So I need a few to work with until I find the others.
You should list them, someone will buy them.
I apologize for misreading your comment, but it looked like poaching. You should have just asked what they were going for. But again, I apologize for misreading the situation.
Thanks! I got the Caldwell Chrono, and I love the whole setup with the app on my phone. It tracks everything for you.
I haven't seen any of that powder, but I'll look for it. Thanks again!
The .378 really is a beast, I dang sure want one,, but they're only popular with Americans. I don't believe they are very liked in Africa. Just completely overkill.
I put my 10mm P220 up for trade, for a African. Sadly I forgot about this forum, and I ended up trading for a Rem 700 Long Range.
You wouldn't be interested in a .300 Ultra Mag would ya ?
Hopefully tomorrow I get enough time to foam the barrel, and scrub it good. I'll take another peak, and it still has lands that look like they're poured out of concrete and that crack is still there, it's definitely Ruger bound. I believe the rough looking lands, is the previous owner shot bare...
I've got about $1700 stuck back. So which reloading kit, and I don't need no progressive crap, I'm not lazy.
Lee Anniversary Kit
HORNADY Lock n Load Classic
RcBS Rock Chucker
I really want a digital scale. So help me!
I need dies for .300 Win Mag, .375 Ruger, 7mm-08. And 6.5 Crapmoor, as...
Ignore the highly dangerous poodle in the background. The Nikon came, and it is VERY clear. The 1x still has a slight magnification to it.
I'm going to pulll it back off and finish setting my express sights first.
You are exactly right, I could not have answered that any better. I'm just asking about everything, because I want to know from people that have been there and do that. My Africa trip is 2 years away, but I can almost assure you, I will be taking 300 grain Barnes TSX with me.
Thanks, and that looks like a nice buffalo!
I'm wondering why everyone I see using TSX in a .375, uses a 300 and not the 350. I always pushed my other rifles to max heavies.
Seems like the payoff would be worth it. Take out both shoulders and the heart at the same time.
You guys tell me why you do use solids or why you don't use solids. There are no multiple tiers of dead.
:)
I don't have any sticks yet. I'm practicing off-hand, and I'll move to sticks soon. I picked up some Reloader 15 and Varget today. This is one fun rifle! As far as recoil, a 12 gage with a 3.5" turkey load kicks a lot harder.
I've fired it a total of 6 times so far. I'm enjoying the hell out of this rifle. I've seen people complain about the recoil, and I just dont get it. If you couldnt shoot this rifle, you need to stay behind a desk lol
