    Buffalo surprise

Hard to imagine a miss from point blank on a prone animal from a seasoned PH. I would bet it was a solid and passed through the animal.

    Buffalo surprise

I remember my first Cape buffalo. 5 days to get him and I started wondering if I was just not as smart as a buffalo. Water buffalo, on the other hand, are far easier to stalk and less likely to charge but actually seem to me to be an even tougher animal to bring down. A couple years ago, the...

    Rare/expensive plains game species

Sorry, sable are not rare and not that expensive any longer. I got my 42" sable 5 years ago for $2950 including daily rates. A roan is rarer and more expensive but for the most part, anything in South Africa on plains game isn't really hard to get to and thus not really rare in regards to PG...

    AH Get Togethers

I have not been to an AH get together for several years now, but look forward to the next one. I put in for a booth at both DSC and SCI to display the archery targets I import from South Africa. I am on a wait list for SCI, but I got in at DSC!! This will be my first time ever going to the DSC...

Capturing a Safari on video by professionals

I have done 9 "safaris" now. Of those, 7 have been professionally filmed. One I tried to self-film and will never do that again if I have a choice. I will be doing that for Greenland next month as I cannot bring a camera person. The only other one was having my daughter film and won't do that...

Elephant, Hippo with Bow in 2025 or 2026

Price is a problem though. I cannot afford to pay a lot and still afford all the other hunting I intent to do. Just started working on the NA Super Slam this coming season. At zero of 29 right now so lots of work to do there. Have 4 animals booked to get a good chunk towards that goal as well.

    July Bowhunting Safari

You doing any night hunting? If you are or think that might be an option, get some glow in the dark paint and put it on the back of your limbs and the bottom of the back of your riser so you can find your bow in the dark. Also, put a dab on the top of your peep. That helps orient you when you...

    July Bowhunting Safari

Sounds awesome. I looked up the math on your bow and believe you will be shooting 78 ft-lbs of K.E. - easily enough for anything short of Cape buffalo. Sara appears to be shooting about 45 Ft-lbs. Impressive for a young girl with only a 23.5" draw length. As to the warthogs and their speed and...

Arnhem Land Australia Cull Buffalo Hunt

I have to get my report written up. I arrived home this morning and am beat as I went in to work and put in nearly a full day. I will say that bringing in the meat was a breeze. 50 pounds max per person. Just bring your Yeti or Yeti style cooler. My meat was still frozen rock solid when I got home.

    Buffalo arrows

Dave, I think Uxas means that the bow does not get that much more efficient - as in more kinetic energy discharged. That is true. It gets more efficient, but not by a large amount. A heavier arrow will make the arrow more efficient in pushing through the target by containing a higher momentum...

Elephant, Hippo with Bow in 2025 or 2026

I am wanting to complete the Big 5/Dangerous 7 with a bow (as well as most of the other SCI slams). Barring an unforeseen accident, I am turning 53 this year and I don't know how many more years I can pull back an 85lb+ bow. I need to get all the really, really big game down before I get much...

Well, if you can get a bow permit issued, I will take you up on this hunt. Seriously. If they will issue a bow permit, I will be there. Buffalo arrows

Uxas, I am not sure where you are getting the gain of 63 to 83 KE. Neither of those numbers appeared in this thread. Typically, if one wants more KE, they are going to have to do that with draw weight increases or moving to a more efficient bow. Mine, for example, is rated at 350 fps IBO. I got...

    2 Elephant Hunts Still Available

Strongly interested. Can you secure a bow permit? If so, I suspect you will be seeing my very soon. I would add on a hippo and/or croc if possible as well. I bow hunt exclusively and still need to get my elephant (and hippo and croc) for the Big 5/Dangerous 7.

    Buffalo arrows

For elephant, I would recommend 105 Ft-Lbs of kinetic energy with a 1,000 grain arrow, minimum How you get to 105 Ft-lbs can vary, depending on how blessed or cursed you are with draw length and choice of bow. I am struggling putting on draw weight now that I am in my 50's. I cannot add it as...

    Buffalo arrows

I use a Mathews Monster Safari. I have several of them, one with 85lb limbs and a couple with 70lb limbs. The 85lb one has maxed out at 90lbs in the past. It is currently at 77lbs and I am working on getting back to 80 lbs for the hunt. The 70 lb ones are always at 70lbs. All are 28.5" draw...

    1. My understanding is that the client either froze or just ran (and my guess is the latter, which would explain that. 2. Two sons. One sprang into action while the other was filming. No way this was staged - I am positive this legit happened. The other son may have been told "no matter what...

Arnhem Land Australia Cull Buffalo Hunt

So just for those curious, any shipment that is not with your own luggage on an airline is considered commercial. Lots of hassle for that. What is the purpose of carrying a knife out in a safari..

Nobody has mentioned this after 19 pages? That hunter should hang up his gear and never hunt again. As a bow hunter, I don't carry a gun. A knife will have to do. I hope to God that I never need it, but I won't ever regret carrying it. My only regret was taking a nice knife with me on a hunt...

I don't need all the meat. Just thought I might be able to cut out 10-20 pounds or so from each one and throw it in a cooler until I get back to camp. Freeze them and ship them in a Yeti cooler or two.

    Elephant with a bow?

I will chime in here. I have not hunted an elephant with a bow - I was denied a bow permit in Zimbabwe on my elephant hunt so I had to use a rifle. I do have a bow capable of taking an elephant.
