How many people have a 35 whelen?

It sits in the safe next to the .338WM...that says it all!:E Laugh::E Lol:He's got another rifle in a useful caliber that he actually uses! Buy a useful caliber like .243 or .30-06 or .375! .375 h&h for whitetails

I have similar finding about the .375. if you want a softer bullet load the 300 grain Sierra Game Kings. They'll expand a tad and still not spoil your meat. Also a BC of .4ish if you want to reach out further. Truer words...it's hard to leave it behind when going on a hunt, but sometimes I just...

    Allure of the Ruger No1

You've got the "old style" front sight insert should you wish to change it. It refers to the hole where the retainer pin locks the sight in is situated being ahead or behind the sight. The rear sight is nothing more than a marble flip up. You can struggle with them and their poor visibility...

    Show Us Your Hunting Knife

Talk about absolute heresy given my knife collection and fleet of suitable hunting knives, but the last two times I killed game this was all I had along. So much for the five P's. Best .45 ACP round for black bear protection

@HankBuck it's not a monogamous relationship with Glock, but rather that particular tool came into preference due to easy of carry and minimal maintenance requirements. If a certain other manufacturer had gotten their feces consolidated and produced a 10mm years ago, I would gladly have gone...

Best .45 ACP round for black bear protection

I'm not overthinking anything. I have a Glock 29 for backpacking and woods travel. I understand that if I cannot convince the bear to break off its interest in me, killing it is the unfortunate circumstance that I find myself in. From there it's a matter of violence of action. A 10mm generally...

Best .45 ACP round for black bear protection

It's a pistol. It's not the best round for protection and I'm a fan of the 10mm. Something much larger from a rifle has the ability to bang flop on the spot. The reason the Danes issue that pistol is because it's more powerful than a .45, reliable, lightweight, easily carried, and the plastic...

My Take on Dangerous Game Scopes

The thing I dislike with electrical tape is that it falls off in the heat and it's hard to see hits on at distance. I'd be really interested to see a study done on powers and splits for engagement on targets. I'd submit that there's very little difference between 1-4x. What kind of 3x are...

One rifle for North American big game?

I definitely don't worry with the .375 along. A handful for ammunition solves a lot of problems. How come you've got that smoochy maiden .500 then? How come she's still a maiden after all that smooching you've been doing? :A Gathering: I'd feel just fine on a bear with a 180 grain or better...

Duly noted! Thank you! In comparison from the hodgdon online data, 46.5 is the maximum listed for said bullet with H110. I found that to be quite interesting. Is it still listing a large rifle primer or has that been upgraded to a LRM?

Original .460 Smith and Wesson Reloading Data

The Advent of the .450 bushmaster did lots of good things for .460 S&W carbines. The extra barrel length was causing hellacious blown up bullets on whitetails and hogs. Bullets were designed to be shot out of an 8" barrel revolver not a 20+" carbine. However the gun is amazing. I like the super...

Any love or Hate for the .458

Thoughts on reviving a cowboy cartridge for dangerous game

@Ontario Hunter there have been two successful revivals of old cartridges to successfully harvest DG. The cartridges selected were the .405 Win and .45-90. The guy who did the hunting used modern bullets from North Fork IIRC. I think your selection of the .40-60 for this is wanting. Need more oomph.

    Which Shotgun for buckshot ?

    Which Shotgun for buckshot ?

Eric, I'm wondering about the reliability in the cycling due to the short barrel. I'm going to call the mossbergians next week and flat out ask them why not. Which Shotgun for buckshot ?

Less relevant I too would buy, however you'd have to believe that the greater pellet count is always more desirable. I'm starting to get curious about the reliability of optics on the 3½" guns. Perhaps the barrel length is also a function of reliability as well. I'd be interested in a reliable...

    Which Shotgun for buckshot ?

Why can't they just do an 18" 3.5" gun? In anything!?! It's really annoying that the longer receiver models have an even longer minimum barrel length. Make an 18.25" barrel 3.5" with chokes, robust adjustable low profile fiberoptic sights and an optic set-up. At that point you have the perfect...
