Well i have decided to come and hunt Africa in the next couple of years, after chasing moose, deer and bears i decided for my 50th i am going to treat myself, and apparently the wife will be coming along to complain about how much time i will spend hunting vs time taking pictures

The main animal i am planning for is a Kudu, anything else will just be a bonus, think i have found the place to go and will be swapping emails with them, this based on a couple of people that i talk to on another forum who went with him.

looking forward to learning how little i know about hunting in Africa

Welcome to AH dobber! your in for a treat when you hunt Africa the only down side is howmany times your going to kick yourself for not doing it before. If you have any questions then fire away and the other 9,999 great members will try to answer them for you.
 
Kudu hunting is an absolute addiction in itself.
Can't get enough.

Your 50th is truly a big mark, and coming to Africa to celebrate is the best present you could award yourself with. I hope you get a humongous Kudu bull and don't settle for anything less than 50"inches!

Welcome dobber! I can tell you for sure, when you get to Africa, a Kudu isn't the only thing you will want to shoot! Start enlarging your trophy room, just the start of a wonderful experience that is African hunting! Brian
 
Aloha dobber, the hat and shirt not only looks great but is functional too. I bought two for my first ever hunt in Africa last May in Namibia. Like most posters here (but them with more experience) map out your top five then add three more. Kudu, Zebra, Blue Wildebeest, Gemsbok, Warthog. Like most wild animals they tax your patience and planning so have back up animals Waterbuck, Black Wildebeest, Impala etc. I ended up shooting all eight. Bring lip balm. I swear by Burts Bees wax. My lips were so bad that I couldn't smile for pictures the first three animals I took. Also if your travel agency offers any concierge service and/or travel insurance take it. Small price to pay for peace of mind. Keep a journal from start to finish.

Enjoy the journey, you're one of the few people that have made the commitment because many talk it but few get a chance to walk it. Come walk with us, those that have seen the setting suns, tracked the grey ghost and celebrated with drinks around the hala after a successful hunt.

A wiser man said " once you go to Africa, you will go again. So get over it". I'm planning my next trip for Cape Buffalo in three years.
 
The wife and I watched a show earlier today about the Cheetah, following a family of them for a while, the landscape and different critters is helping the wife realize it will be a dream worthy trip as well
