Every once and awhile something pops up about a custom 2 Bore muzzle loader made by such and such gunsmith. Occasionally its a 4 Bore; but theres never much info (or at least Im never able to find more).

I wont swear Id buy one but Id sure like some info about whos making them and how much they cost. Ive shot more than a few Brown Besses and even handled an original Ferguson; but nothing bigger than 75cal. My newest addition is a 64cal Jaeger flintlock that Im gonna break in during this muzzle loader season for deer.

I saw a 6 gauge SxS percussion shotgun at a show this past weekend; but it wasnt what Id call in shooting condition. Its a shame cus it made my 10gauge look punny.

Who makes the 2 and 4 Bore guns?

edelweiss i have a frienf here in va who has a 4 bore barrell already made and the maker is putting breach plug in. it will be 32 in single barrell and weigh aprox 20 lbs, i,ve been trying to get him to hunt cape buff with it but his wife nixed that notion. he,s not much on selling guns he makes but does a good job. probably will hand make lock, hammer and all hardware for this gun. he has won a lot of ribbons at dixons in penn with his guns. smokepole

I'm new here and I wrote out 2 replies and they didn't seem to go anywhere, so this one will be short and sweet.

GEFROH made/makes superlative 4 & 8 bore muzzleloaders. No email address, you'll have to google

Good Luck

Edelweiss,
The gentelman's name id Colin and he builds to your requirement. He has a several year backlog but does great work.
Home - Stolzer & Son's Gunsmithing

He helped me get the parts to build my 8 bore.

Have fun

And IF someone wanted to go with a cartridge rifle, I know where there is a fine 4 bore double rifle that is for sale. 27# as I recall. It's in excess of $125K though.

October Country Muzzleloading in Hayden, Idaho is still advertising their 8 bore caplock. They say that the big 5 have all been taken with this gun......2oz ball and 300grn of FFg.........................................FWB

I have no working knowledge of the 8 bore, but is I were going to go BP for DG I would save up for the 4 bore. Fired one (4bore)several years back (don't remember off hand who made it) SxS and it was an amazing experience. I am really not that much into BP but,,,, my short time shooting the monster expanded my knowledge somewhat of the large bore BP rifles used in the days of old. A handful for sure, and anything that makes me stumble backwards when firing, is a great confidence booster, for what it will do to game on the receiving end.

Years ago, when I was still in the service, I remember watching a TV show about this mountain man in CO who took an old 20mm barrel and turned it into a BP rifle. He had a single shot 22 short pistol as backup.... The pistol was probably to use on himself, because if a BP of that size didn't kill what he was shooting at, he knew he was F****d.
