Hi guys, for those waiting for a pic of my new Merkel 140. Well.... I got the call from my gun store to tell me the gun was in and to come look at it. I was happier that I could have imagined it was better than I had imagined and came to the shouder exactly where I wanted as if it had been fitted for me.
Then......I wanted to take it apart and look at the internal finish and out fell a fair chunk of metal. On closer inspection we found the end of the right ejector rod had snapped off. Now I have to wait for a new one to arrive and get fitted. Better found there in store than out on the veld in Africa.

that a bit of a dampener ,reckless
but as you say better there than anywhere else
did nthey say how long the wait will be ?

No they didn't say but if there is one in Australia they will airbag it and they will fit it here. I am not sure if Merkel want the whole thing back. I can't wait to hunt with this gun but now will not be taking it to Africa next Wednesday.

that's not real good mate
but it is Africa man ,and you will not be disappointed
can you rush some numbers through customs to take another firearm out the country or will borrow a firearm over there
l bet you let the gun shop know how pissed you are

Never heard of anyone say anything bad about Merkel, kinda shocks me that it was broke on arrival. As you said yourself better in the shop than when you are trying to reload on a 2000+ lb animal hell bent to take you to the cold room with him. As bluey said, go enjoy your hunt in Africa. There will be more hunts to use you new Merkel, and I wish you the best on the upcoming safari.

This has now taken a turn for the worse. I have returned from Africa ( got a nice Blue Wilebeest) to the news that the Merkel is still not repaired and they are now blaming me for the breakage when I removed the forend to find out what the rattle from the breakage was?????

Incredible....

From what you describe happened and I am not doubting you. Merkel just dropped way down in my opinion. Sorry for your problems.

Wow that's a shame. I know exactly how frustrating it is to get something new you've been waiting on, just to have it break at no fault of your own. I'm going after my second double ( Searcy ) and hope I don't have issues like that. Hope you get it fixed real soon and are happy with it. Let us know!

You removed the forend while still in the gun store and they are blaming you??? That's amazing if I read that right....

I will give the chain of events for you to make the call.
Got a call saying the new Merkel was in , come take a look.
First impression was better that I expected.
Picked up gun and swung on a trophy head of a buff on the wall.
Gun came up great.
Opened and closed the gun a number of times and noticed a rattle in the region of the forend.
After asking if I could remove it for a look, the forend was removed and the damaged metalwork fell out.
Was it my fault?
To answer you point, I don't thinkI have the full support of the gun shop and will be speaking to them again on Monday re my options. Will keep you posted.

they have to provide more service than taking your money and selling you a brand new broken firearm !!
specially if its a virgin
I don't know of this merkel firearm company but theyre firearms seem well received on here
id be letting them know that they should be doing the right thing
good luck with it and yes ,please do let us know how this finishes

Reckless I had a similar case happen to me many years ago, I wanted a rifle to hunt with and couldn't afford much being a PFC in the Army I was at the Rod and Gun Club in Germany having lunch, after paying for my meal my change was 75 cents and as I was walking by the door there just happen to be a slot machine so I put the 3 quarters in it and pulled the handle and Jack Pot I won 300 Dollar, well I went straight back to the rifle rack and bought a New "New England Firearms" single shot rifle in a 270 Cal. paid the man for the gun in Quarters of course. and set there opening and closing the rifle several times just to get the feel when the ejector broke on it and it hadn't even had a bullet in it yet the gun salesman took the rifle back and said I'll give you a call when its fixed. one week later I got the call and my Rifle was ready at no cost or headache to me. So that tells me that New England Firearms has a better warranty then Merkel does and that sucks.

Thanks Bob. The more replies I get the more angry I get about the whole affair. All this on top of the fact that the gun shop talked me out of buying a Heym.

Reckless, sounds like a bunch of BS! And they definitely need a kick in the ass if they talked you out of a Heym! They owe you big time, they need to really step up and attempt to whip out this bad memory.

You should def be angry!!!

No possession outside of the store and there is even a question???? If I bought a car and it wouldn't start when I tried to drive it off the lot and was told tough luck it was my fault call a wrecker I'd blow a gasket!!!! This is the EXACT same thing!

Still no update on MIA Merkel. Even the gun shop is now not returning my calls. The last news I had re the broken part was that a gunsmith was making a new one here in Australia . My problem with that is that I am not sure I want a gun that the manufacturer does not keep any spares for.....worldwide!
I am off on a business trip today and am going to look at some models of Verney Carron.
