Yes this is not the time for speculation and rumors. Especially here on AH where it can cause more financial damage to the hunting community. A few incorrect posts and some will cancel their hunts!

There is a great opportunity here, blacks, whites and all races stood side by side to jointly defend themselves. That same spirit can be taken forward to now help feed people. South African communities are great, they do this sort if thing anyway. This is what happened in Zim after the land debacle and the collapse that resulted, we couldn't pay anybody, it was worthless anyway, but they all got a meal every day. Where there could have been bitterness there is now unity and racism is nowhere to be seen.

WilhelmM, while I appreciate you have friends in KZN who are manning road blocks and you are getting info from them, I have been manning road blocks in KZN since Tuesday. There are hundreds if not thousands of said road blocks in the province. We have daily security meetings with the neighbouring heads of ‘security’ and have it as a fact that firearms were confiscated by Metro Police, not SAPS. As a result we all now have to abide by the firearms control act and not have our firearms displayed in public (i.e. rifle kept in vehicle, not on shoulder). The display of licenced firearms in public (illegal in normal times) is what I suspect has led to the confiscations.
We were also issued permits and letters from the head of SAPS in KZN last night to be able to show Metro police that what we are doing is allowed (community policing) in case of trouble from them. We have a protocol to follow in case of arrest as well as volunteer lawyers on standby to help if such a situation occurs.
To those suggesting our posts are fear mongering and will damage the industry etc- I apologise. I am defending my home and community and when the topic arose on AH I thought members would want to be kept abreast of current developments. So unless you plan on hunting bushpigs in the natal sugarcane you have nothing to worry about.

It's no problem, @Nkawu. I'm just amazed that the rumour you referred to was able to spread so easily and the person who started said rumour won't suffer any consequences. Not angry with you, just with the people exploiting the situation. Stay safe.

Don't apologize, you have first hand knowledge. If the truth is inconvenient, which I don't believe anyone is implying, that is just tough. This isn't a review of a hotel or a trip report, this is serious shit.
 
The senior cops from our local police station have been nothing but supportive. When they drive through our checkpoint they hoot and wave and have turned a blind eye to our previous brandishing of arms. I did the graveyard shift last night and we are still seeing suspicious vehicles approaching the check point with no licence plates and then quickly turning and driving off. One vehicle did the same trick at three of our blockades before he was chased away onto the highway.
 
Thanks, Nkawu, for some facts. It is difficult for us to follow events there. Reuters has dropped coverage, as events apparently don't fit their preconceived narrative. Major US media had little coverage and have mostly dropped it..............FWB

Isolated incidents vs wholesale policy. Metro police vs SAPS. Helps us understand whats going on.

I have hunted in very close proximity to one of those reported "Hot Spots" in KZN. The news does not cover all the details of the impact.

We all wish you the best in dealing with this horrific situation.

Looks like a tremendous opportunity for the decent folks that live nearby to test the durability of their vehicle suspensions. Maybe see who can drive over them the fastest without spilling their brandy and coke drink
