Hunting Trophy Export From Namibia

I used Yellow Shark for an Elephant and a couple of plains game from Namibia. All the paperwork was in order when it arrived in DFW. I cleared the shipment myself as I always do. Everything was as expected, no delays at customs, or Fish& Wildlife. However it did take forever, 13 months + after the safari, and was twice as expensive as any South African shipment. I cleared the shipment 2 days before the CITES permit was set to expire. Many emails about my concern that the CITES was going to expire soon didn't seem to move anyone any faster. "Waiting on Gov't officials" was the normal response.

Yep, welcome to my world. They do one thing, it takes months, they do the next thing, it takes months, then they do the next thing, and yes it takes months!
Don’t get me wrong I don’t know this company and wish them well. I really wish someone in Namibia would actually provide service to their customers.

@Philip Glass
Sounds a bit like mating elephant.
Done at high level
Achieved with a lot of grunting and bellowing.
Takes 2 years to get a result.

I've read the entire thread from start to finish and it does make me reconsider whether I want to make Namibia my first hunt. I really want a gemsbok/oryx and Namibia is known for it.

Despite many requests for Yellow Shark to make a comment throughout the thread, essentially all they've done here is repost their original ad. Really?

Wow!!!! Just wow!!! This is very disappointing given that I’m going to Namibia next fall. I’m not sure who to use for shipping but if a sponsor can’t comment in over a year.... well that’s an issue.

I don’t know this guy from Adam.

Interesting responses in this thread. Everything from rants about an industry to demands for responses. Thankfully, some have actually used the service and replied with their experiences.

Know the stats on completed hunts in Southern Africa as a percentage compared to 2019? Most of the entire industry will be lucky to survive.

Know the stats on flight reductions in Southern Africa in 2020?
Nothing in comparison. Guess how that correlates to available space for nonessential items?

Do you honestly expect a small business of any sort in any country to have control over what has happened in the last year?
Flights, government, etc

Zero planes are moving that can provide shipping at a reasonable price. Quit whining and Pony up the dough and I’m sure you can book a charter and get your trophies home Tomorrow. Call FedEx and get the package couriered. All the personal service you’d like.
Since most of us don’t own Amazon, we have to wait for freight consolidators to put together a shipment to make the cost affordable.

I have had everything from “hostage taking” of trophies, invoices increased after the fact sent to me, moving target fees, wrong trophies, etc. On the negative side in various countries.
On the other, paid invoices under quoted prices, trophies packed and delivered on time as promised for the majority and problems resolved at their Cost.
There are companies I would use again without hesitation and others that my email will never darken their monitors.

I expect Titus is off making a living at something that pays. Sure as hell Trophy shipping was not the way to make a living of late.

Again, I don’t know him from Adam.

That's fair Brickburn BUT.... come on, the sponsor doesn't even make the case for their services when they show up on here one year later given the running dialogue ? Not a single reply to counter how they are different? All that leaves me to conclude is that Yellow Shark is no different than what we have read from others except for the two testimonials from members that their shipments went good and one member inference that it didn't go well.
@Yellow Shark Logistics give me something my man !!!

I have zero clue why the guy has not responded. Perhaps he’s stuck on the Evergiven or he's a troglodyte coming to grips with new technology.

The basis of most of the useful information we tend to trust on AH is from members sharing relevant personal experience. Typical answers to questions like: Hey, has anyone used XYZ?

The part of this thread I find perturbing is that this guy should do a song and dance because a member has a rant about his own poor experiences (not with the OP) and proceeds to project his unhappiness with the world (specifically Shipping and Clearance from Africa) onto a new sponsor.?

I have zero issue with holding a service provider accountable. Did you buy a service from this guy? Praise him or trash him with the facts of your own experience. I encourage it.

What did this guy do to become responsible for the omnipresent issue of crap shipping, airlines and government permit delays in Africa?

My two cents for what it is worth. Namibia has very few shipping agents. So your kinda stuck with what they do have. That said I have used yellow shark twice. Once before COVID shutdown with an elephant and everything was good. The second was during all of this shutdown I had a leopard and paid shipping due to ship last February. For whatever reason permits not sent or what it got delayed then everything shut down and it sat until December as my permit state side was going to expire I called and worked with Titus to get it out. Of course I had to pay the balance due for the shipping rate doubling but he did get it out on one of only a few flights. As for why he does not respond i can only assume he is not a computer guy and everytime I talked with him he was never in the office. I can say he will whatsup anytime you ask him or leave him a msg and he will call you back on whatsup.

Always with the most updue respect Brick. :)

I think the question is, what has Yellow Shark done to combat the issue of crap shipping, delays etc.
For the record, I have never shipped from Namibia and have never used Yellowshark but as a sponsor I'd hope, they don't owe us anything than paying their sponsorship fee I suppose, they would contribute to the topic. It's why they sponsor is here I would think.

Yes I have the record for dip and pack shipments with my 2016 shipment that was 30 days arriving in TX after I left Namibia. So I know it can be done. But the reality is they are slow. Africa slow. Sorry to be derogatory but if you all knew what I am dealing with in Namibia and RSA right now you would understand. 2 months just to box in Namibia after I’ve paid in full and have importer on ready and 9 months in RSA waiting on someone to sign a permit correction! Are they all taking December off this year? I mean they had the lockdown time off?
Philip
Thanks Phil. I will certainly scratch Namibia off my list to hunt if I can’t get my animals back in a timely manner. In SA I had no problems with my five animals. However am I correct if I dip and ship it will be faster to get my animals to my US taxi?

It depends on who you use. Namibia is not slower than RSA. I have the all time record on dipnandnpack and it was from Namibia. 30 days from my departure my horns and skins were in TX!
I am now hunting with an outfitter that guarantees finished taxidermy in 6 months then shipped to me! No one can beat that.

Be cautious of speedy taxidermy

Be cautious of speedy taxidermy
The older I get the more cautious I am getting of slow, years long taxidermy!

The foundation for high quality taxidermy is a high quality tan properly neutralized and a good shaving job. Most of the better commercial tannery's in the US have a turn around time of 4-8 months unless paying rush order pricing. I am currently running about 9- 11 months out on customer ready taxidermy, about half that for rush service.

Dear Fellow Hunting Enthusiasts,

My sincere apologies for only addressing this thread now. I would like to reach out and see how we can rectify any issues with the trophy exports.
I have been in this business for over 20 years, specializing in shipping. We are a reputable company and have many returning and happy clients.
Yes….now and then there might be a glitch and we will do everything to make sure that trophies are handled with care and arrive at you soonest.
We did have issues with government officials not moving things along faster, but this has been dealt with. We have also come to an agreement with Ethiopian Airlines for competitive pricing on shipment.
The best-proven way to make sure of cutting out the waiting period for trophies is to contact me while you are planning your hunting trip. I can give you a quote and also work on logistics beforehand.
Then once you have a list of all the trophies, you can send it to me right away while you are still on your safari, then I can immediately apply for all the correct certificates and this will already cut down the waiting period by months.
I am willing and able, I am open to suggestions and, I am sure. Together we can make Namibia known as a country that has no hassles when it comes to hunting and shipping, as much as it is already known for its exceptional gastronomy and welcoming spirit..
Please feel free to email me or ask questions. It is extremely busy at the moment but I will address anything the moment I have a second to do so

Kind regards
Titus

I want to tell everyone that Monday I emailed Titus that I wanted a quote from him that would be for my leopard and three other plains game animals. I got an email back from the man on Tuesday morning and then a telephone call from him Tuesday afternoon to explain how he would work with me. Never received anything but emails from other shippers on previous hunts. So i would say so far that Yellow-Shark is taking my business seriously and is responding. Thank you Titus

Still hunt Namibia and get Christian at Ingwe to do your taxidermy. Their work is first rate.
