I have a magnum sporterized Winchester 1917 (Enfield) for sale. Custom build by Ahlman's gun shop (per stamp on barrel). Chambered in 375 h&h magnum, comes with custom magazine (pic), jeweled bolt, timney trigger. Stock has a hairline crack behind action which I drilled out and epoxied/pinned through the pistol grip (haven t shot it since working on it). Have had this rifle for about two years and it shoots great but ive never been able to get the mag to feed (possibly because ive only been using Speer 235gr JSP). More pics/info available on request.

Also have what I believe to be a Leupold Vx3I 1.5-5 scope (sorry no rings, bought separate from the rifle and never put it on)

Since you are a brand new member and the rifle you have for sale, is somewhat unusual, I would suggest you tell us more about yourself as a hunter or shooter and then more details on the rifle including how much you are asking for the rifle.

Sure! Ive stalked this forum before as I love odd guns and calibers but joined in an attempt to find a new owner for this particular piece (will also be on the prowl for a cz550 to replace it)! I dont get to do as much hunting as I would like anymore (I work construction so I'm mostly limited to foul weather days), but I enjoy collecting funky oddball weapons. Saw this at an LGS and the price was right so took her home thinking I'd fiddle with it, but after two years the mag issue is beyond my time/skill to fix and honestly I think it needs a better stock. Lacks magnum crossbolts and in my mind the side walls around he mag box are too thin, but then again you guys are the experts not me. In short, I bought it to play with, and just think someone with more skill would be able to make it something much better than I can.

I was thinking 500 shipped but I'm flexible.

On a side note, if you are selling your .375. If you have any of the 235 grain Speer bullets for sale, please PM me as that's the bullet I shoot.

My plan is to replace the p17 with another 375h&h like a cz550 so I'm keeping all my brass/bullets/dies for now. Unless of course someone has a 358 Alaskan set up to get rid of, then I might ditch the 375 altogether

Since it looks like this piece may have issues and your looking for a 358STA, I’d send it to Pac-Nor and have it re-barreled and drop it in a new stock. The action alone should be worth $500. Again just a suggestion, the 358 STA will probably be my next build if ever get around to it.

Really just needs a better stock and the mag issue ironed out. Barrel looked like it had never been shot when I bought it and stock started cracking in the 60ish rounds I put through it so even though its been pinned I suspect it will just happen again. The bottom metal floorplate has a set screw added that keeps the release lever from dropping the floor plate and i imagine the bag of the magazine could be notched to accomodate it and sit further back in the action to allow rounds to strip out of the mag without smacking the front receiver face and jamming. I thought about sending this off but I buy project guns because I enjoy working on them myself and fitting a new stock is a bit beyond my skill/comfort zone at the present time. Figured I'd just pass it on to someone else

Do you have a picture of what the bottom of the action looks like?

Has any work been done on the feed rails or is it still as it came from the factory?

Has the cock on opening mod been done or is it still a cock on closing like the original 1917 enfield?

Ill have to check tonight

If this was indeed done by Ahlmans send it to them. They are highly regarded and will fix it properly. Brother has one built by the elder Ahlman and they were tickled to get it back for a minor repair.

So I actually called and emailed them when I firsr got the gun and the lady on the phone swore up and down that they had never done any work on p17s or magnum conversions or anything of the kind despite their website listing the EXACT work done to my rifle as a service. Finally got ahold of their head gunsmith and he said under no circumstance was there any kind of warranty and i was free to send it in but yeah.

Sorry for late reply, night shift got my schedule a little whacked. Idk about the feed rails as I'm not an Enfield guy so wouldnt know how original ones would look but heres some pics. Bolt is cock on open.

Thank you for the pics, I hate to ask but can you also get a pic of the feed ramp area. I am trying to judge the quality of work that was done. The welding on the magizine would never have passed my high school welding instructors test, so that gives me pause on the rest of the work. But i like working on projects so I am interested.

Yeah Idk who made the mag box cuz I haven t been able to find another one anywhere just looks like they spot welded shims under it to bring it up to feed height. Lemme get back to you on the feed ramp

@A09 I do believe you are correct in that the mated a different box to a couple shims to get it to fit into the bottom metal, rather than modify the original 1917 box. I built a 50 Alaskan in a P14 action years ago and havd to do some serious work on the magbox and feed rails to get it to feed correctly. I unfortunately let a buddy convince me he needed it more than me.

Man that sounds like a dream project right there. Someday id love to have a mosin rebarreled to 6.5-348 Winchester or 500s&w/50-110wcf/50alaskan
