I've always wondered what weight broadhead most of the guys and gals use for hunting. I myself have switched around a bit but now have the weight that I like for maximizing flight and penetration. Care to share what weight head you are using? Thanks

Little stuff, 125, Deer Plains Game; Big stuff 210. Buffalo, etc.

I have used 125 grains coc, but i have build some stiffer arrows now, that can handle 150 - 180 grainers without compromize safety.

on small stuff like rabbits, foxes andthelike up to goats i use 115grain blackstump vented iron bark fixed two blades as theyre easy to resharpen ,anything after that i use 125 grain two blade rage expandables, and if im fortunate enough to get a cape buffalo next year i will using 200grain fixed two blade tusker aztecs (cant wait to hear from the outfitter on price for the buffalo , been waiting a month )

100 grain for coyote, whitetails, mule deer, pronghorn antelope, black bear, moose, elk, and caribou without fail. Behind it I have averaged 450 grains of arrow = 550 total grains. Now as I prepare for my plains game Africa hunt I have ordered 125 grain broad-heads, weight forward arrows and a Mathews Helium bow to pitch them down-range.

I use well tuned 100gr cut on impact heads on 420gr arrows at 283fps out to 50 yds on everything up to moose and the only non-passthrough I remember was a 25 yd end to end on a Caribou that stopped after breaking his femur.

I used 125 grain Slick Trick Magnum last year, but I am going to use the 175 grain Xbow Trick on my hunt in SA next year.
Total arrow weight with the 175 grain BH is 600 grain.

100gr broadhead with a 100gr brasss insert to give me a high FOC.

That seems to be getting popular slowly. I agree with you. Some guys go with standard insert and shoot a broadhead in the 180-200 grain range. Especially the traditional guys. Over here in the states it seems that a lot of deer hunters shoot 100 grain heads....i personally like a bit heavier but the market seems to be oriented to 100 grains. Maybe someone should change that...

I use 125gr broadheads for normal plains game. I have up to now been using Nitron, but am moving over to Slick Trick (Standard or Magnum) which look to be very effective (again 125gr). These are 4 bladed over the the 3 blades of the Nitron.

For thicker skinned game (Buffalo, Giraffe, etc), I would go much heavier (at least 210gr), with a minimum total arrow weight of 850gr.

Hi All,
Just got back from shooting my bow. I am a former hoyt guy. having said that I am nearing perfection. I purchased a Matthews Heli M bow set at 55lbs. I have coupled that with an Easton Injexion arrow and it is amazing. The Injexion has such a small diameter it offer penetration over 1/3 deeper than their Axis and even better than penetration than the next best (over 50% in most cases.) The NAP Big Nasty deep six that are made especially for the Injexion in 100gr. are so accurate and penetrating it is scary. I have tried them on wild boar and they have been amazing. I cannot wait to try them in Africa. I do not work for any of the above mentioned companies. In fact I do have a complaint about the injexion. They are very expensive. I hate that part but in comparison to a hunt it is nothing.
I hope this helps someone.

thanks-Jerry
