Alaska’s COVID state of emergency expired without being renewed so the 72-hour negative test requirement before traveling is no longer mandatory.

Hope it stays that way, headed there in September for Caribou

Hooray! I don’t go until September but this is great news for me. Oh how I pray the masking goes away too.
I am going with two guys on a drop camp moose hunt near Dillingham. It will be my first experience in AK.
Regards,
Philip

Anchorage and it’s mayor and city council are the only real issues in AK that I found.. once you leave Anchorage, the mask BS, worries/concerns about COVID, etc seemed pretty nonexistent...

If they are doing away with the nonsensical covid test BS they were doing (you could literally walk right past the station where they wanted to see your test.. they had no way of monitoring who was getting off local AK flights and who was getting off flights coming in from elsewhere)... that’s a huge step in the right direction...

Good news, hoping Hawaii follows suit as well for Americans traveling there.

Oh I hope it continues and without all the nonsense and impediments. I just want to get on the river, relax and swing a big flesh fly. :)

Dillingham is an "interesting" place. Been there on the tugs a few times. We had some adventures on that river! Good luck with the hunt.

Most of the world curves are showing decline, in fact trawling through lots of them on Covid Visualiser I didnt find a single riser. South Africa has virtually ceased, and Zimbabwe is nearly there. This is looking good. Even the UK is slowing nicely.

Yes interesting! Dillingham used to have an old time harbor bar- you might even run into ole Bill Hurley Jr. there. He's from upriver at Ekwok. When not fishing, he said he was "moose guide," but that's a different story :):)

If dropping up into that Nushagak drainage somewhere- that is a huge area! Might be any kind weather- of course you've already heard all about that. If over in the Togiak or Wood River areas- more and different country. IMO, the Wood-Tikchik has some the most beautiful scenery in AK.

The best bull I ever saw poking around in all parts of AK was in the Upper Nushagak, up in a tributary north of the Big Bend. Probably 70-75" with wide paddles and lots of points. Yikes. But of course they can be anywhere.

You'll have a big time and good luck!

Alaska is pretty sane overall but there are a few things to be generally aware of if planning a trip.

There are a few places where community spread is or was really bad. I think one local village had 25% rest positive at one point. Reasons might be crowded living conditions, lots of extended family gatherings and who knows what else. The nightmare scenario for such places is all the elders getting sick without quick access to a hospital.

Bottom line is just be aware. Bigger community hubs should be fine. If you visit some really small villages checking ahead would be smart. Just make sure the hoped for services still exist.

Thanks for the info!

Things have relaxed overall in Alaska. Things are still pretty tight in Dillingham (home for me). Our city council is, um, cautious? There's another covid/travel council meeting Thursday night. Phillip, if you need anything, give a shout.

I agree, I arrived around midnight in anchorage. Pretty easy to just slip on bye. Will be heading up for moose and grizzly and maybe something else. Will pack my bow but if a hog steps out he will be toast will a longgun
