But I got out, sold my Harley and started going to church... and I owe everything to that decision.
If I didn't straighten up I would have never met my wife, or have my have my job as a nurse on a surgical ward, or have my kids and most possibly have my freedom and my life.
All the crew I hung with are dead or in prison while in contrast I now empty the giving box and bank the money, or organise communion, or volunteer...
The only hint of my past life is my tattoos, as I'm quite heavily covered.

I don't often talk about my journey or my faith. It's not that I'm ashamed - it's just that I don't want to tell anyone how to live their life.
We're all on our journey... and I all hope we make it to where we want to go...

There is nothing to be ashamed of, as a matter of fact just the opposite. Pride is what you should feel. 1 in every 10,000 come out the way you did.

On a serious note, I'd say good friends are the main thing I'm learning to cherish over personal belongings. I've noticed the older I get, the more minimalist I become. I love simplicity these days. It's the main reason I won't buy a second gun safe, and when I buy a rifle, many times I will sell another just to keep from needing another safe. But with that said, there is no other material thing in existence that comes anywhere near my love for guns. Not even close.

There’s something about working land and making it better that gets in your blood. I’m always busy with bees, long leaf pine restoration, invasive species control. Gosh I remember those purglass tiger rods, with the long string binding, and a Mitchell reel, the big one, i thein they were the 700 series.

And I can't believe no one else said it yet. But I love my taxidermy. When its too cold and snowy to lay in my hammock. Next to the fire under all my trophys is a close second.

Likewise I love my buff trophy, that big head looking down at you. My grand daughter loves it too, takes you by the hand to go and see every five minutes, pick her up and she strokes the nose.

Making a boat is indeed a satisfying thing. Years ago during a varsity vac I made an SAS canvas canoe, used to load it on the top of the old VW beetle 1200. And head out. Three of us in it, rowed to an island on Kariba and camped for a few days. Milimetres of draft, sharp sticks, you think you are invincible when you are young.
 
I absolutely love those African style roof. Unfortunately where I live I don't think it would hold up to carrying 4' of snow lol.

i have two, the first is my Series 1 Land Rover that we take on hunts and I drive every day.
the other is boats, fishing boats for Lake Kariba tiger fishing mostly. The flagship is a 22ft Interceptor hull with a Yamaha 250 SHO 4 stroke on the back, quite fast. My daughter drives this one, she has her skippers license and can handle it better than I. The second is a 19ft Falcon with a Yamaha 115 4 stroke. My brother and I use this one. Number three is a Samurai, also 19ft with an old dog Evinrude 150 on the back.
Why so many boats? Because I always fish in s group with family and friends and a dozen people on one boat is a bit much, especially when hooks start flying around!

And just the sheer pleasures I get from being out bush.
The fact I can still get out of bed each day. At my age I don't bother looking at use by dates on products. I just hope I live long enough to use them.

Being a first nations Australian a bumerang must be one of those copies of our boomerangs that was made in China or a boomerang that doesn't come back, bummer.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
 
My only other real hobby/fun? is this vintage CHB trawler (Taiwan tub), called a 34' but actually about 37' overall.
This is for cruising the best cruising grounds in the US, the San Juan Islands which are just a stones throw more or less from home. Comfortable boat with aft cabin, diesel powered, slow but economical (just like its owner!

Russ it's heat to see someone else that has found being a Christian is a good choice. I was in a similar position and some people thought I would be found dead in a gutter somewhere after another bad choice. One good thing I was never into drugs. That was one of the smartest choices I've made in life.
As for powerlifting well done. My body suffered enough abuse thru work and other things. Now I do sit ups. Sit up to get out of bed and finish it when I lay down at night.
My bilateral bicep curls consist of drinking my first coffee left handed and my second one right handed nowdays.
Getting old can be a bitch at times and I'm only 62.

Hey! I'm a Northerner--from Maine, about as far north as you can get and it's pe-can for me, too. I think the heat affects you Rebs and slurs y'all's speech.
