Yes similar Withold, just a bit more powerful so it gets to the legal limit in most countries. Very good looking round too, looks ‘right’. I bought up the last of the Bertrams brass in Johannesburg, trying to find a few boxes of Norma PH factory loads, but like hens teeth here.
 
I'm inquiring with Krieghoff about their .375 Flgd Mag NE for a SxS double along with a couple of other models.

I'm a lover of the breakactions.

I have the "big five" model in .375 flanged magnum. lovely gun. No problems. Very accurate once I found the loads

Make sure you have an ammunition supply though.

What other game have you taken with your Krieghoff Gareth?

After carefully considering the advice of those who know better than myself, i have decided against putting a scope or red dot on this rifle. It wasn't made for scope use, so the stock drop is a smidge lower. The rifle fits perfectly, so pointing is sighting, and after many club DG shoots I am really pleased with my open sight performance. As soon as covid travel restrictions lift here in Zimbabwe I am off to hunt a sable with it. Do you have a scope on your double?

Good to hear from you.
I took the buffalo at about 30 yards side on with hornady 270 soft point just behind the right shoulder. It ran on about 50 yards and, after an appropriate wait for the bellow, we followed and found it collapsed under a tree facing back the way it came. I gave it 2 "insurance" shots on the advice of the PA, when it was down, from about 10 m.
It's got a Swarovski 1.5-?6 scope with an illuminated dot in the middle which subtends a large area at 100m but is strangely accurate and it shoots well with this with one barrel producing 1" at 100m (but using both barrels together an honest 6-8")
I've taken blue wildebeest (heartshot at 100 m) and European wild boar too and found it accurate, reliable and effective. Before my trip I made sure of the iron sights and, like yourself, found them excellent.
The picture shows the scope setup on the rifle.
I tried various bullets and weights and settled on the most accurate combination of soft point and solid. I appreciate there are a multitude of opinions on bullets for big game but I made do with what was accessable in the UK.
I found "Shooting the British Double Rifle" by Graeme Wright invaluable for loads and advice.

Well done on that buff Gareth. I heard this morning that hunting in Zimbabwe may open up in a few weeks, but in any event our group has now booked two buffalo in the Chewore concession for later this year.

Thanks Bob. I don't know if the Ruger could have bee re-chambered, but happy to keep it as is, i can always download it to 2400fps.
 
Keven, This may not count, but I have take two buffalo bulls with a single shot from a moderately loaded 375 HH belted Mag. One at 44 yds with 300 Northfork Cup Point Solid bullet at 2450fps. and one at 22 yds with a CEB #13 Solid, at 2450 fps. Both were facing me and both went 30 yds after the shot.
 
Pretty much the same experience. Quite some time ago I switched to loading the 300 grain A-Frame in my .375 H&H and my practice rounds to an average ME of 5.4 kj. That works out to an average MV of ~2,455 fps from my 24" barrel.

With the most recent buffalo the 1st shot was ~25 yards. He seemed then to get confused and let me empty the rifle into him with the last round at ~15 yards. Really though, only 2 rounds were needed.

The only factory round that I'm aware of that follows that approach is the Federal Premium Safari A-Frame at a nominal MV of 2,460 fps, but I've not run those past a chrony so I don't know what the actuals are.

Hi Brian, firstly congratulations upon those two buff. Yes it does count, it all comes down to bullet wt and velocity.

I know of no one, @Kevin Peacocke , but that's largely because the round was so popular shooting softs in the early 20th century. During it's heyday the bullets were pretty lousy so had it been used, it would have led to some disappointments. (no longer the case)

The problem is that the 375HH and Flanged were both a bit lethargic in 1910. Very poor quality bullets. Stranded cordite at modest velocities as the propellant.

As you're aware, when a pair of cartridges are made, one rimmed, one rimless, the rimmed one is trapped in a time bubble eternally because its properties set by ICI/Kynoch had to stay the same to ensure regulation. On the other hand, the rimless could and was continually hot-rodded for greater performance and heavier bullets. The reason the 375HH belted magnum is so loved is that it never went into stasis, it was a magazine rifle round that continued to evolve, both by the 300gr and then 350gr bullet, and by superior propellants, increasing velocity by 200fps over the original loads.

So what does that mean for the 375 Flanged today? Nothing, really negative. It just requires a handload so the combination of powder, primer, and bullet can achieve regulation. This is no big fuss, get a wonderfully made solid of 300 or 350gr and then try all the relevant powders to see which one regulates best with the most joules. That's your load. You'll brain many an elephant.
