I have to disagree on this. I doubt that there are many women choosing when to get pregnant based on whether they will get welfare. Instead, it has more to do with the prevailing cultural norms in many black communities and a lack of education.

lincoln signing a piece of paper didn,t free anybody. it took several years of hard fighting with suffering and death to many thousands of northern men and boys to give the paper teeth. they bore the weight of the fight and yet they are not remembered to much for it by the same people they fought and died for. the group raising all the hell even tore down the satudes of black union soldiers.

I believe the cultural norms in the Black communities were seriously impacted by the Government programs....human nature being what it is.

The Government can herd people like cattle, with their ability to tax on the one hand, and "incentivise" on the other.

Move to Maryland or one of the other Blue states where the social workers instruct unmarried women to have another child when they complain about making ends meet. When you subsidize something, you get more of it.

My wife worked with a girl who used to carry a book so she could keep track of who what when where.of her eight kids from different fathers.

Saul- Apples and Oranges. The response is to financial incentives from the government and the number one rule of life: If you want more of something, reward it; if you want less of something, penalize it. The federal government has been rewarding single parent households since FDR, as such the behavior that induces single parent homes is rewarded and has increased. Once critical mass was reached, the morality norms changed to match the behavior.

Last week, on Father’s Day, there were NUMEROUS posts on social media made by NUMEROUS black people as well as by black organizations stating that Father’s Day was a white holiday and shouldn’t be celebrated.. it held no value in the black community..

With different plants and animals the sex that produces pollen or sperm has differing involvement in the rearing of the young. In previous times, humans followed the wolf pattern with a nuclear and extended family. According to the organizations mentioned above that indicate Fathers Day to be a White Only holiday, one would conclude that Whites tend to follow the traditional pattern and associate themselves with animals such as wolves whereas the Non-Whites would align themselves along the lines of ungulates.

I have no problem with people celebrating the day. I have a lot friends that celebrated the day and I’m generally happy for them. The day has less meaning to me. I’m fine with peaceful protests. I’m not fine with road blocks, rioting, businesses being looted and street fights/shootings.

My wife worked with Youth Services and found that teenagers were just waiting until they graduated from high school and got pregnant so they could file for welfare and housing. These were primarily black girls although she encountered one white girl with the same attitude.

The exemplar. Pretty standard justification for views we don’t want to change. Do you or I speak for all white guys? Does the black guy who don’t mind being called “boy” make it okay to do so?

Do my friends who are good fathers to their children (and happen to be black) deserve less credit on Father’s Day because they represent a smaller proportion of fathers?

The point is people (you in this case) are quick to make racist assertions and assumptions.. when the view is actually factually based and/or generally accepted by all parties regardless of the side of the aisle they sit on..

A far safer assumption on your part would have been to assume most of the people participating in this thread not only have taken and passed SOC101.. but have also taken and passed other SOC classes.. and didnt really care about the drivel put forth by the professor (who, based on FACT was very likely very liberal and held a very different set of values and a different world view than they do)..

SOC101 is what us engineering majors took for an easy "A" elective and to meet girls.

I don't know where you live but what's been posted is reality in the cities and suburbs where some former nice subdivisions have been turned in to shitholes. Places where it was unheard of to have a burglar arm, residents keep sidearms on their bedstands. The reason is the influx of blacks from the cities and plethora of apartments and rowhomes turned in to Section 8 housing. The problem with the black culture is what Ray B posted, subsidization of fatherless homes by the government. Why do you think the minorities are in the pockets of Democratic party politicians? Because they facilitate and profit from that culture. Biden is a perfect example. Governments of all levels have literally thrown trillions of dollars at minorities' issues with little to no return. Public works projects didn't help. Enterprise zones didn't help and now free internet and phones are in the mix. My school district which has an abysmal graduation rate just raised taxes, not to improve education and hire better teachers but so they could keep sports going. Why? The district is mostly minorities. The whites have long since sent their kds to non public schools.If they were investments, they would have been declared bankrupt a long time ago.
You can play the liberal racism card but facts and statistics prove otherwise.

I have been on this rock a looooong time and worked in many professions with hundreds of nationalities and probably every race on the planet and I know what I see, hear and it's not what some bozo liberal sociology professor is repeating what some other bozo liberal sociology professor has published. In fact, the problems we have are the result of the same old bullshit that's being foisted as an education on unsuspecting and naive youth that solves NOTHING.

Juneteenth is relevant to Texas history, but really has little to do with American history when people look at the facts and the actual history behind the celebrated event..

I know almost nothing about Prince Kuhio day.. but thats a state holiday in Hawaii.. and something that is important to some Hawaiians..

I have no issue at all with people celebrating whatever they want, whenever they want... hell, we even have holidays that have been made up by corporations, personal interest groups, etc.. in this country... national secretarys day get celebrated in all 50 states every year..

My issue is with revisionist history or people trying to make something relevant to a new situation when the reality is, it is not..

A friend I have known for the better part of 30 years, that was in the army the same time I was.. that grew up dirt poor in the southern US.. that is black.. that is also very immersed in black culture... had never heard of Juneteenth until a week ago...

My old partner that I served with as a cop.. was raised in the projects in Memphis, TN... and has lived in a predominantly black neighborhood his entire life (He is 50 years old now).. had never heard of Juneteenth until a week ago...

Both of these guys are educated.. attended universities in NC and TN respectively.. and are very involved in local black communities.. one is a deacon in a large black church.. the other is still a cop that works an almost entirely black ward in a large metro area..

but have never once in their lives before now, ever heard of Juneteenth...

Im not about to be embarrased that I didnt hear about it until last week either..

I am embarrassed for a few reasons. First, I did not know the date of the emancipation proclamation. Second, while I do not have many black friends, the ones I do have said that they have never before felt comfortable recognizing Juneteenth. Third, I felt uncomfortable hearing people talk publicly about being freed from slavery and that is because I hold prejudices that I am working hard to recognize and overcome.

Back the '50s on the weekends my father and I would head to commercial orchards. He would pick apples and I would get the ones off the ground for cider. Most of the pickers were from Puerto Rico and we never saw one from Mexico. They would come to the U.S. in harvest season, move with the crops make a lot of money (to them), then go back to Puerto Rico. When Uncle Sugar and the Democrats passed legislation that Puerto Ricans could get welfare and food stamps, they stopped coming. The Mexicans then filled the gap and now we have migrant workers from all over Central America. The reason? They don't get welfare and food stamps in those countries.
