Hi guys, I'm relatively new to the forum but I'm going to ask for a big favour. Myself and a friend are heading down to Wyoming from Saskatchewan thursday night after work and we have run into a large predicament. Due to a series of miscommunications/misunderstandings between myself, a new CBP employee, and the ATF we are not going to be getting our permits for our rifles approved in time.

I am asking if anyone would be able to hook us up with a rifle for the weekend? We are more than willing to pay a rental fee and toss in some antelope meat and/or a bottle, whatever your preference. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope somebody can help us out.

We are leaving the fourth and driving home on the 9th. Possibly earlier if we tag out quicker. We're more than willing to make a detour.

I just left my home in Mississippi this morning on a 3 week hunting trip that starts with a couple of Pronghorn tags in Wyoming. As usual, I'm traveling with a veritable arsenal of rifles & handguns with plenty of ammo for all.
You guys are welcome to your choice of what I'm packing. The biggest problem may be logistics. Let me know where you'll be hunting. I'll see what I can do to accommodate you.

Jeff

I just tried to see if we could rush your 6NIA permit processing with my contact with the ATF.
Sadly there are 100 hunters in front of you and it can not be done until next week.
Sorry.

Thanks for looking into that for me Brickburn.

Jeff we will be hunting out of Lusk in area 9 I believe. We are more than willing to go out of our way to pick up and return a rifle. What area will you be in?

Well, on Friday & possibly Saturday I'll be in unit 23 on a ranch a half hour West of Gillette.

On Saturday or Sunday I head down to Jeffrey City to hunt my unit 64 draw tag thru Thursday the 11th - at the latest.
I have to leave for NM the morning of the 12th.

You won't be too terribly far from either spot is seems.

Give me a shout when you can. We'll make it happen.

Jeff thanks a lot!! I will send you an email when I get home from work tonight. We will work out a plan to meet up. We will probably stop for a nap at Gillette after driving all night so we should be able to work something out.

Thats very generous of you Jeff. Unless a guy knows the loopholes in the system it is very difficult for a Canadian to get his ATF6 submitted in time for approval for an antelope hunt due to the late date that the tags are available for purchase.

As a heads up to any other Canadians out there, the way to get your permit in the works early enough to actually receive it before your hunt is to buy a small game permit and submit that in the spring with your application instead of waiting for Antelope tags to be issued mid summer. I had to learn the hard way myself, the ATF is slooooooooooow.

Good luck on your hunt bwanawannabe.

If it looks like things may not work out w/ Jeff. Let me Know. I live in Gillette. Just got back from my Bighorn sheep hunt and just saw this. I have a 25-06 that was dead on last yr and would do the job. Best of luck. Bruce 307-670-3390

Hi Bruce thanks for the offer. If things do not work out with Jeff I will be sure to give you a call. How did your sheep hunt go?

It gives me a big smile seeing hunters support hunters in a pinch you guys are great. gillettehunter the only pronghorn bucks the wife and I have ever taken was in your neck of the woods great hunting area if we ever are able to make it back up there we'll have to look you up.

Thanks for the help everyone!!! Just leaving home. Should be in Wyoming in only 8 hours ha.

Good Luck on your hunt hope you get a good one. Be sure to take lots of pics and tell us about it when you get back. Bob

This is nice to see.

Canadian hunters.............. to be safe, you need to apply to the ATF 3 months before you need the permit.

American hunters complain to me all the time about coming to Canada and having to get a firearms permit and pay $25. Give me the option of filling out a form and paying $25 any day over dealing with the current US BS to take a firearm down there on a hunt. Lots of guys buy hunting licences in states they are not going to hunt in, so they can take a photocopy of it to satisfy the ATF on the application.

Never thought I would see the day when it was easier for a 'Yank' to get a rifle into Canada than a Canadian into the US to go hunting.

I just awoke in Gillette to find a text message from Peter that he and his partner are in town here somewhere taking a nap in their truck.

It's 32 degrees and snowing nicely for our Pronghorn hunt today.

I'm bout to go hook those guys up with a killer of a rifle!
Yeah, it really feels good to help a fellow hunter out.
I'm glad that I was in a position to do so.

Jeff good luck on your hunt and let us know how it went with lots of pics.

In answer to your question I killed a 10 yr old ram on the 10th day of a 10 day hunt.... Figured I'd post the story w/ some pics next week when I finish getting caught up. Anybody who happens to be in town feel free to stop by Marshall Jewelry and chat. I'll likely have the horns there, exept if I make it out hunting.... Bruce

This site has proven time and time again that it's members try to help each other, this one takes the cake.... Well done...

After waking to a nice falling snow and freezing temps, I met up with Peter and his pal early yesterday in Gillette. Hooked 'em up with a rifle and wished them luck.

I then went out to the ranch I was to hunt and had one heck of a first time Pronghorn Adventure. This hunt was thrown together in a couple of days after I discovered the opportunity and I had a total blast.

I got the chance to break in a virgin Rem 700 first generation Ti rifle in .308 Winchester on this hunt. In the McMillan edge stock, Talley lightweights, and Leupold ultralight scope it weighs in at 5 3/4 lbs. It performed flawlessly with a one shot kill at just over 400 yards. My first time to hunt Pronghorn and my first time to hunt with a .308.

Next up is the same rifle in a .270 Winchester that I bought used. It has been hunted a bit but never by me. Like the .308, it's a tackdriver, especially for a ultralight rifle.

This was a great warm up for my draw tag that took me 6 years to get. I am headed out to my draw unit to see what I can find over the next few days.
