What Watch do you wear when you hunt?

You will know the difference...and sometimes that is enough.

Nothing wrong with picking up a previously owned GENUINE for a good price.
You will be much happier in the end.
 
These two points in time work for me.
Accurate, every day. No matter where you are hunting.

On the contrary, you wear a well made watch for the same reasons that you appreciate and shoot a fine firearm. In a few months I'll be sitting in a stand with my Rigby .275 or my Bradshaw 7x65R looking for a good whitetail. A Ruger All American would be just about as effective. But it wouldn't be my Rigby or my Bailey Bradshaw.

For most of my life, either of those two rifles or the Submariner were not a consideration. I have been blessed that I have been able to indulge a bit of my appreciation of fine craftsmanship. I was a very good hunter with my Model 12, my Ruger No.1, and a G- Shock. I am no better now with the Rigby and the Submariner. But then and now, I fully appreciated the difference.

Aside from my phone and trusting the PH to tell me when it's lunch time? A Dakota belt clipped watch with a long leash I braided up out of paracord so it drops into my pocket safe and secure. Wrist watches have never worked well for me.

Buy a quality item once, take care of it and it will last a lifetime. Buy an inexpensive one and continue buying it. nothing wrong with either, just a choice.

Lunch time? When hunting elk my lunchtime is some trail mix, beef jerky and maybe a can of mustard sardines! Guess I’m hunting on the wrong Continent! Ha! Ha! Ha!
 
@K-man you are exactly right!

I think @BeeMaa and I are of similar thoughts on buying a nice rifle and using it hard. I feel the same way about a watch. When I finally had money to buy an entry level nicer watch I bought a Tag Aquaracer (about 7 years ago). It stays on my wrist for everything I do (except marathoning). A quality watch is made for heavy use. I sometimes think about an upgrade, but then realize that this watch has bee with me through everything, so why change it.

Running stores sell simple wrist covers for stashing a car key or money, they also work perfectly to cover a shiny watch when hunting. It is a joy to me to have to clean blood off my watch from an animal I’ve hunted.
 
My tastes and budget run to the mundane.

While I can appreciate a very well made watch in the four figure range, my frugal upbringing just can't justify it.

For hunting; a very basic Timex Expedition or a Citizen brand style eco-drive. Also pretty much daily wear for the Citizen. They do the job of telling time.

For the high end/dress timepieces an Orient classic, somewhere in the $250 price range.

For my past diving days a Citizen aquamaster?? circa 1990 or so.

I have yet to have any brand, or type of watch to last me. They either: broke; faces got severally scratched, chipped, cracked; the hands separated/came off the post; watch band pins continuosly popped out; or they plainly quit working after a few days.

Offer me an expensive waych or a Lion hunt. I will take the Lion. I have just always had a fascination for dangerous game. A Grizzly or a Lion are top of that list.

Just use the sardines as bait, the rest will be ok.

That is because you haven't yet discovered the joy of owning a good one. (y) Mine has been to a lot of hard places - the worst had nothing to do with wild game hunting. A good time piece, like a good rifle doesn't quit working.

Ha! Ha! When your starving you’ll eat anything! Just wish I had some tortillas to wrap the sardines in! I ate this (in a driving rainstorm) once, cause someone (father in law) forgot to bring the elk meat we were supposed to have for dinner! It’s when the hunting adventure becomes more like a survival course. Probably what I can expect if I ever make it to Africa! But at least I’ll have my watch on! Ha! Ha! Ha!
 
@CoElkHunter the food in Africa is good. The lamb roast on the first night was a hit for me.
The game meats were nice i dont eat a lot of game i shoot feral pigs as pests .
Mmm, Elk ive never tried that, never hunted bear either.
All the food was good including the meals at Addo and Pumba.
I would eat the wraps and happily give up the sardines, juet not into fish although its healthy i cant reall enjoy it.
