The problem isn't that trade is evil. Trade is good. If a company in country A can produce item X and deliver it to a consumer in country B at a lower price than elsewhere it benefits the consumer. that is the free trade model. Unfortunately intervention in the marketplace by politicians and short-term focused businesswomen and men skew the results. Books have been written on the subject so this forum is not the place to enumerate them all.

VICTORY AGAINST POLICE ACTIONS IN THIS LOCKDOWN PERIODS [May 2020]

The DA has won its first legal victory against the ANC governments COVID response, restoring the rights of NGOs to feed the poor and destitute.

High Court ruling follows below.

The High court in Pretoria yesterday gave the government five days to put structures in place to regulate the behaviour of the police, military and metro officers.

Judge Hans Fabricius also reprimanded Bheki Cele, minister of police and Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, minister of defense and military veterans, saying that it appeared as though they had forgotten that they are part of a democracy. Nowhere in the legislation are the police or military sanctioned to do whatever they want to and torture people.
The two ministers also have five days to draw up a code of conduct applicable to the lockdown. Judge Fabricius further ruled that South Africans have a right to life, dignity, the right not to be tortured, treated in a humane manner and may not be humiliated - this is not negotiable.

He further ruled that the police and military may use the minimum amount of restraint in the execution of their duties and that the military is poorly trained for the task. He goes further saying that the instructions to the military sounded more like a battle to take out the enemy than to assist during the crisis.

Fabricius also said that the public has no faith in the government and the way they are handling the situation, criticizing the vague lockdown regulations and poor communication to inform citizens of these rules.

This is a strong message to the power-crazy government, the police, military and even to various security staff who suddenly regard themselves as state-empowered agents.

I guess the rest of the state department has not gotten the memo yet. Since gaining their independence from GB, we have recognized the autonomy of Hong Kong against the protestations of China. China has used this pandemic to distract from their attempt to end the sovereignty of Hong Kong, and for some unknown reason, the United States is stepping out of the way and letting them. Make no mistake, we are at war with China. They will see this weakness on our part as permission for them to continue to expand their influence and undermine democratic and capitalist principles.
