I recently watched The Macomber Affaire and really enjoyed it. I would like use to the collective knowledge of AH to ask the fellow members what great movies are made with hunting as a theme. Africa or otherwise.

Ghost in the darkness.

I am not kidding you but I am watching it at this very moment. See picture

That's awesome... there's a lot of good ones, but it's my favorite. Opinions may vary though.

I think this the funniest movie ever. All based on deer hunting in the U.P. of Michigan.

Not exactly in geographic juxtaposition with Africa which is what the OP asked.

In order, mine would be Zulu (the 50 year anniversary BluRay redo is tremendous), The Gods Must be Crazy, The Naked Prey ( best chase movie ever made until Mel Gibson borrowed heavily from it to make "Apocalypto"), African Queen (there has been only one Humphrey Bogart), Hatari, Ghost in the Darkness, and King Solomon's Mines (1950).

@RedLeg Respectfully, OP did say "or otherwise."

I do need to check out some of the others in your list, though.

Ghost in the darkness.
If you haven't seen this movie and are considering a lion hunt, go on the lion hunt first. If you see the movie first, you may not go!!!

Guys. Its The Ghost AND the Darkness. Thank you.
Hatari, Macomber Affair, King Solomon's Mines,(Granger version), The Roots of Heaven, Something of Value.
There is a few there for ya.

Guys, you forgot "Out of Africa"! Meryl Streep, Robert redford, 1985.

Thinking about this, I am always surprised or disappointed why the subject of hunting in general, or African Safari is not more frequently covered in modern commercial movies?

Arguably, the film is most influential media today - and we all positively remember all the good movies we have seen from our young days till now, and making good movie about hunting by Hollywood will improve already deteriorated opinion by general public about hunting. Good movie lasts for ever!!!
While all above movies are reflections of the past, new movies should be made in context of conservation what modern hunting is all about, and challenges that modern industry is facing.
It could be made trough the eyes of small game farmer in Namibia, or the challenges that is facing a local outfitter in Tanzania, or human - animal conflict on communal land, to make individual personal perspective.

Unfortunately, Hollywood prefers more to make movies about zombies, rather then hunting.:A Blowup:

I’m going to try to find these to fill in some quarantine tv. Any idea if they can be found online or on pay channels?

Ghost and the Darkness, I have watched it few times
. No Hunting themed movies come to mind so watching with interest to see what i might like.

Quigley Downunder was a long distance sharpshooter recruited from the US to hunt wild dogs in Australia but with a twist. My mate used to watch that when he came to town for his annual visits.

Here's a few for you. Not all hunting of course.
Some are better than others but worth a watch depending on if you want an intense watch or just get carried along on an entertaining adventure.

I used to date a girl from U.P when I was going to Purdue and been to the deer camp with her family. The movie is so hilariously hits all the stereotypes.

I must say it was very amusing. But maybe not Michael Douglas best acting role. Probably will watch it again.

Zulu is surely a great one. I recently acquired The Naked Prey, did not watch it yet but surely will. I will keep an eye out for the other titles your are mentioning.

I'd say Hatari. There are relatively few good hunting movies IMO. I'm struggling to find one real good one. I watched The Ghost and the Darkness about two weeks ago and haven't changed my mind about it over the years, it's a poor movie, especially if you've read The Man Eaters of Tsavo. Quigley Down Under, White Hunter Black Heart etc, don't appeal to me. All very ordinary movies. I'd prefer watching an animal documentary, David Ratinborough. However, Zulu is one of my very favourite movies.

A lion hunt is still on my list after watching it. It will happen some day.

A lot of them are found online some way or another.
