Survey: Your Favorite .30 Caliber

Major Khan Sir
For me , it would have to be the .303 British . That caliber won me my military award during the 1971 War Of Independence . I also took down countless Chital Deer and Bengal Bush Boars with my issued .303 British during the war , in order to supplement camp rations .

But you already know all of that .

I’m about as big a cheerleader for the .308 Win as you can get. I have shot every species of big game that we have in Saskatchewan with it except Pronghorn. And if I can ever draw a tag, that’s what I’ll be using.
I’ve killed game with the .30-30, .30-06 and .300 Win Mag and love them too, but I don’t love them enough to replace my beloved .308 with one!

308 win.

Reason, it replaced the 30-06 for US military use and it's what I used while serving. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 06, just I just have that attachment to the war bird. Plus, it's an awesome round.

30-06 loaded with 200 grain Nosler Partitions is my dark timber elk load. But I load it with bullets from as light as 100 grain Speer Plinkers on up. IMO, this is what the Nosler Partition was designed for.
If I was hunting purely trophies all over the world, I might be more inclined to prefer the 300 WM, but it is mostly an over achiever for my Colorado home hunting.

30-06 all the way. In barrels of the same length the magnums don't have much on it.

Not when you reload and especially when using heavy for caliber bullets the 06 cannot compare. Some factory 300 H&H are waste of time

Major, will you see what percentage of the .30-06 fans turn out to be Americans and others?
I have never used one but it seems a favourite with Americans and I think I would vote. .300wm but currently lacking one looking for a replacement and have owned a few .308s

Consider it done , CBH Australia. I am going to start making the final count from tonight .

30-06. Hunting wise, jack of all trades master of none, It just gets the job done in a dependable way. You can buy ammo in most small towns across the country. Handles bullets from light to heavy without punishing recoil. Lots of history WW1, WW2, Korea. Bottom line is it just works.

Living life like a lion for 1 day is better than living life like a jackal for 100 years.
