Is the trophy shipping totally shut down? Although there’s little passenger traffic, I would think that there’s plenty of planes/ships that could use some business, especially with the low fuel prices.

Yes, from talking with Tom at Trophy Shippers, I had the same thought as you. Empty planes, fill them with cargo. Apparently some airlines are going that route to some degree, but our trophies are not important enough to make that journey. When they load the cargo, it's essentials first, food, medicine, toilet paper.

Less planes, less flights, less space, increased costs. 500% have been reported in some cases.
Never mind the priority issue.

Most disruption of the world since World War II. Really sucks!:(

I’m sure the export permit office is non essential and closed in RSA and perhaps other countries.

Have a couple trophies in Denmark. It may take awhile to get here. They just started mounting.

I believe air traffic has not been disrupted like this since 9/11.

I spoke to my person in Namibia that is doing our skins and he said Namibia is in lockdown and he can't even go to work but as soon as he can he will be back at work.
Cheers
Bob Nelson

We are going to be in much more of a mess if people can't get back to work. We need as many taxpayers as possible considering how many more are now draining the pot.
(I'm Canadian, but feel it's the same on both sides of the border my friends)
All the best to you and our friends on the dark continent as well.

Living in the Capital of RSA and having OR Tambo just south of us 32km as the crow flies its scary or nice to hear no jets flying at all. Yeasterday or day before we herd a jet flying over and wondered what it was. Then on the news last night we saw footage of a plane that came back from Italy with South Africans.

Otherwise just some military Hercules flying over and choppers from the cops really quiet here.

I'm in construction painting contractor and have not been productive now for exactly 30 days since 23rd of March when they announced the Lockdown for the 27th. I met my workers the morning the 24th gave them an upadte on the whole lockdown. Prayed and sent them home to get ready for the lockdown. Seems that we will only be able to start working again around the 15th of May. Its going to be tough out there from now on for everyone.

Checking back on if anyone has heard of any timeline of trophy shipping commencing from SA?

All is quiet with mine still too. Without international passenger flights to put them in as cargo it's going to be a slow go.

Yes indeed Frederick- I saw that plane too and my kids and I still made the joke about it being like the Gods must be crazy movie when we see an aero plane!

We finally got all of the paperwork complete just as the world went into shutdown. Had to track down the PH, since our outfitter passed away since our hunt. Thank goodness the PH had all of the info from our hunt. We are waiting on SA documents to ship.
Has anyone actually got their trophies back since the shutdown? And how much did it cost. I can’t remember how much the cargo part was from our last hunt and how much it is going to increase because of all the political stuff going on.
Got a Sable head, Gemsbok head, gold a Wildebeest head, some hides and a couple of euro mounts.

Delta Air Cargo is the slow down. No regular Delta flights at this time to add cargo to means no cargo is moved by them either.

I have been in communication with my shipper the past few days for my trophies out of Port Elizabeth,RSA. Normally things would be shipped Delta Air Cargo straight up to Anchorage Alaska where I can personally clear them with Customs myself for under $20. Now, unless I want to wait multiple months for Delta Air Cargo to be operational they go to Seattle via some other airlines, have Coppersmith clear them for a lot more than $20 and get them put on another plane up here. Since most don't live in Alaska I'll just say my five heads (nyala semi-pedestal, eland shoulder, duiker, bushpig and bushbuck wall pedestal) to Seattle is $2600, not including brokerage and clearances. So not free, but moving.

Recently received my tanned zebra felted skins from Windhoek, Namibia directly to my front door by Fed Ex. The heavy cardboard box was way oversized for the amount of the contents and as such could have added some euro mounts. I assume Fed Ex did the clearance thru Chicago, nothing noted as to added expense for clearance. I have used Coppersmith in the past on mounts but not this time, Fed Ex door to door in about a 10 day from leaving Windhoek to my door.

Wow $2600 is more than our airfare one way in business was. That is almost what our trophy taxidermy cost. Hopefully our documents will take a while and things will get back to normal by the time they ship.
