Dating to the late 1930s, this astonishing silent color 16mm home movie documents one woman's trip to Africa. At 2:50 there are scenes in an African village, including shots of indigenous peoples. It wasn't just a sightseeing trip either, but a hunting trip which saw her shoot many different kinds of animals. The blood bath she produced includes a cheetah shown at 4:04, a water buffalo at 4:40, a gazelle at 6:46, a male lion at 10:30, an elephant at 11:00, and a bull elephant at 11:44. At 14:04 a man walks by with a camel, followed by a caravan. At 14:30 the woman poses with children and an early Land Rover touring car. At 15:00 Mt. Kenya is visible.

My God people, it's been 90 years ago, and the footage shows the camp life of the era of Denys Finch Hatton and Karen Blixen.
The lady seems to have mostly played the safari alone (until 15:00 it seems so)
Does anyone know anything about the lady?

Wow! Thank you very much for sharing! If anyone ever wanted to know what it was really like to go on safari "in the old days" this is a great film. Classic tented safari and early Range Rover hunting trucks. I was trying to figure out what rifle she was carrying. Looks to be either a Mauser or maybe a Rigby. Iron sights! She is the real deal. Would love to know who she is and who she hunted with.
When I was a boy of about ten or twelve, the man who owned the local movie theatre came back from safari in Africa and had films of his hunt along with the ivory and elephant footstools, lion skin, plains game horns and other trophies at the theatre and he showed his films on the big screen for his friends. My father took me and I was hooked on African big game hunting. This film reminds me of seeing that other one more than 50 years ago.

Very cool video. I think it could be JA Hunter, but not sure. The end is definitely the NFD, looks like along the Uaso Nyiro River - beautiful country up there.

Cannot be a Mauser/Rigby, because of the forwards position of the bolt handle.
Also the position and style of the front sling swivel, mounted on the stock, is an indication.
I think, it is a Mannlicher-Schoenauer Model 1924 in 10,75x68,....
In 1930 the only M-S caliber legal in Kenya.......to take lion and elephant.

I have seen this video before.
The lady's name was Evelyn Young . She also shot a royal Bengal tiger in India in 1937 , from a macchan on top of an Indian elephant in the Terai region of India . As well as a sambhur deer , an Asian Sloth Bear and pea Fowl .
She also made a video of the royal Bengal tiger shikar .
Peter Howard was her White Hunter ( or " professional shikaree " as we call it ) for that shikar .
She owned a .423 Mauser calibre Mannlicher Schoenaur bolt rifle , a
double barreled side by side rifle built by Manton & Co. chambered in .470 Nitro Express and a 28 Bore Westley Richards double barreled side by side shot gun . At least , this is what she had brought for the Indian shikar . It is a shame that I never got to meet this talented lady. I was born 4 years after her Indian shikar .

The vehicles shown at 14:33 are, I think, (the rear end of) a mid 1930s International and (the nose of) a 1930 Ford.
The International (?) 'shooting brace' shows more plainly at 16:44. The huntress' rifle is definately a Mannlicher Schoenauer with an added 'military style' rear sight, it seems.
