COVID-19 Coronavirus UPDATES, BANS, CLOSURES, ADVISORY, etc.

I can not help but think this virus will have a truly drastic reduction in numbers of hunters traveling to SA or Namibia and surrounding countries for years to come....I was scheduled for my June departure to Namibia, but know that will not happen and am concerned in time this virus will always be lurking out there. It will be a leap of faith to board a plane with 250++ others and spend 16 hours of close quarters, to say nothing of becoming “hospitalized” in third world country if you become infected, while waiting for Global Rescue to get you home.
Oh good Lord. How about smallpox, typhoid, yellow fever, tuberculosis, etc, etc, etc. Heck even the flu. We will develop a vaccine and we will develop group immunity over time. You come in contact with pathogens of one type or another every single day. A little secret worth all of us remembering from time to time is that none of us - not a single one - is getting out of here alive no matter how thoroughly we hermetically try to seal our lives.

USA now has tested over 3 million people which is 1% of the population.

The USA cases are far higher then other countries. Because they are mass testing aggressively.

As everyone else is not testing unnecessarily.

3 million tests already done? Where do you get that garbage data from? Selling a tests doesn't equal it being used instantly. See this website: https://covidtracking.com/data/
Yesterday when I posted they had recorded 672,449 tests (at 28/3 12:22 ET), now (29/3 10:34) they have recorded 766,761 tests. So that's about 100,000 tests done in a day. At that rate it would take 30 days to do 3 million tests. Are they really only reporting 20% of the number of tests you claim that have been done?

Everyone else is not testing unnecessarily? Why would you test unnecessarily? As you say yourself, it's unnecessary. There are countries who also very aggressively tests. In Germany there are many drive-through test facilities in parking lots. Even people from neighbouring countries drive over to there. In Switzerland they were giving out goodies to stimulate people to get tested. In the US...who knows how much a test will end up costing you, especially if you test positive.

And where are these test kits supposed to materialize from?

Good point, some countries claim they don't focus on tests as they don't have enough capacity and tests, other countries focus heavily on testing and don't seem to have issues with capacity or number of tests available.

I hope the outfitters are exchanging rands for dollars. The latest rate is .057 U.S. to the rand.

Do they get a points toward a COVID-19 test kit for every Rand they convert?

When this pandemic is over I will hunt Africa ASAP..

Probably better off. At the RATE it's dropping, they're looking at Zimbabwe 2.0.

Scared investors are always running around in a crisis.
Watch the historical rates over the last three years. This is not even the worst.
RSA currency always bounces....

To be fair, you are using tests with completed results. There is no data for the number of pending tests. Maybe 3 million is high, but 700K is low. Several folks on here have related stories of waiting 4-7 days for results, so at roughly 100K results per day (your estimation) that could very well double the number of tests administered.

Regardless, this virus will kill people. However it is also very likely to ruin people's lives in a very different way. For example, in the US, we have had ~2400 deaths. We have also recorded 3,200,000 unemployment claims last week (previous weekly average for the last 10 years was about 345,000, previous highest for the last 10 years (2008 crash) somewhere near 700,000-800,000) and the government just shelled out 2.2 TRILLION dollars.

Death is a very tragic thing - I feel for anyone who has been impacted by this virus, especially those who have lost someone. But as @Red Leg and others have pointed out, ain't none of us getting out of here alive. No use running whole countries and economies into the ground.

Be safe - wash your hands, don't cough on people, don't eat off of other people's plates, don't visit your grandma for a few weeks.

Dont visit grandma for a few weeks? I thought we would all be at Easter service together, now trump says April 30, I don’t think I can take his word

Did you watch the news conference or just what the talking heads said he said? Big difference in the two. Easter was a talking point, nothing more.

Yes, there is a difference between completed tests and tests taken. Some tests now give results in an hour though.

I just wanted to highlight the last bit, "don't visit your grandma for a few weeks". Nobody has had any exposure to this virus prior to december, it is completely new to everybody. You will only get immunity by getting it or getting a vaccine. Vaccines will take about 12 months (optimistically, there are about 20 different vaccine trials starting up now). So it might be to not visit your granda, or your grandchildren, until you're vaccinated or have tested positive, and that might take a lot longer than a few weeks.

Newest tests show results in five minutes.

Quick tests have just been approved in the last few days and will definitely help. I've heard manufacturing capability is about 10K tests per day. Hopefully others will get approval soon, or they can increase production quickly. All that said, still doesn't change the fact that there are a lot more tests that have been taken and have yet to report results.

I'm perfectly aware of how virus' work in regards to immunity and vaccines (the flu has been around for a long time). My comment was obviously meant a bit tongue in cheek.

He (or probably more accurately his advisers) have continued to monitor the situation as new information has come in and adjusted their guidelines accordingly. I would much rather have them reassess and change their recommendation, then blindly stick to a date.
