COVID-19 Coronavirus UPDATES, BANS, CLOSURES, ADVISORY, etc.

I was not trying to make you out to be an "insensitive prick," and sincerely apologize that you took it that way. I took the oath too. And I am proud of and grateful for your daughter's service. I respect yours. But were she mine, and in an exposure zone for ebolo much less a mere SARS related virus, I would want the US government to be doing exactly what it is doing right now (ok maybe a stricter quarantine for ebola). Part of what makes this country relatively unique is that we go to great extremes to look after our own. And we are fortunate to have smart, experienced professionals handling the situation at our end. If you don't agree with that policy, fine. We'll simply disagree. But it is what we have done and will continue to do in such health emergencies.

I think we are also, unfortunately, a people that tend to get hysterical about this sort of thing (and no, I am not calling you hysterical - I said "we"). But in the last thirty years, we were all going to die from either SARS, or the Norovirus, or bird flu, or Nile fever, or ebola, etc, etc. The hyperventilation has only become worse through the internet, social media and the 24 hour news cycle. None of us are getting out of here alive no matter what we do. I suspect the most likely bug that will kill off quite a few of us will be a particularly virulent form of the flu. But who knows? What is clear is that China is finally taking fairly Draconian steps to get a handle on the spread within China. Western governments are taking prudent steps to protect their own citizens to include responsibly getting them out of the hot zone and under quarantined observation. And at the end of the day, we are talking about something with a relatively low death rate no matter how much the media and fear mongers want to spin it. And yes, it is a virus and could mutate into something more lethal, but I think it is at least equally likely that it will burn out as spring progresses or that a vaccine is rather quickly developed.
Red leg.
I seriously want to apologize. My daughter is currently stateside and has no symptoms. I guess I was trying to be a hard ass (kinda pride myself on that) but, I actually felt relieved when I found out she was coming home. It's hard to explain but the best way I can describe it is, she's kind of a hard ass too. The part of the oath that she, and I, were referring to was to protect the United states from enemies foriegn and domestic.

I won't try to defend my previous post, but know this, you were right. Soldier or not it's still my baby girl.

We are on the same team my friend. It is why we swore the oath. I am so glad she is home. Please tell her another old soldier is proud of her.

To put this bit of scumbaggery into context: the Liberals negotiated a spending bill with the opposition parties. An agreement was made for each party to send a small group of MPs to vote in the house (to avoid crowding etc) in the ordinary course, the Bill to give Cabinet unfettered power would not have been revealed until tomorrow. I guess they gambled the pressure of sinking a spending Bill in this climate would have been enough to get it passed. The Liberals then would have had unfettered taxation and spending power until 2022. Fortunately someone leaked it to the press!

South African Airways has cancelled all routes until 31st of May due to the Corona virus situation.

The president in South Africa has also announced a 3 week lockdown of the country, which means that people will not be allowed to leave their homes except to buy food, medical supplies, collect social grants or seek medical attention. All shops and businesses will be closed, except for pharmacies, supermarkets, petrol stations and health care providers as well as laboratories, banks and other essential financial services. The lockdown will so far last until at least the 16th of April.

I hope for the sake of outfitters and farmers, that clients will not cancel, but merely postpone their trips, if they are affected by this situation.

Let's hope this crisis is over soon.

The big bump in that article is Zimbabwe closing borders to everyone except it’s own citizens returning home. Which is how the virus spreads, been in Europe for a week, come home feeling fine so went to the market and church and now ten days later feeling feverish and a cough.
We just keep importing it-apparently we learned nothing from patient (or is it victim?) number 31. . .

How do you propose to keep a citizen from returning to their own country (home)?

Some people are learning. Others, not so much.

-we back seated the returning home conundrum at length while at work. I understand your point very well and don’t have all the answers, which is just one reason of a couple thousand why I’m not the leader of an African nation. . . Or even a small local one.
My solution was to quarantine all those arriving home for 14 days. Home, lockdown. do not pass go, don’t collect anything on the way, do have sex when you get there. Just go home and stay there until you know for sure you won’t infect the whole family, village, town, city etc

The LV mobster AKA gov has essentially declared martial law here in NV. He has the Sheriff's Dept patrolling and citing businesses that haven't closed. I saw some Deputies in a shopping center yesterday cruising around. I asked one shopkeeper if they were going to close and he said, "Hell, no. A $300.00 fine is nothing. I make that much in an hour." So much for bureaucratic scare tactics.
When you stop and think about it this virus hasn't killed any more people than the annual flu season. I think it is way overblown and about 80% lame scream media hype and political BS. Great feel good play for two bit bureaucrats.

Latest figures from Spain

39.676 Positives

3.794 Recovered

2.804 Deaths

In Madrid, hospitals are full, non critical cases are being treated in hotels and field hospitals.

The city mortuary is full, bodies are being sent to the skating ring. Crematories running 24h.

I´m certainly not a medical expert, but I have never seen this before, this doesn´t seem like the flu, or just another bug.

By the way, older people should lock up for their own sake, but the youngsters also spread the virus. So maybe it is a good idea that only essential people still go to work, and the rest of us just go out only when really necessary.

I don´t think we should panic, that is never a good solution, but we should take this pandemic very seriously.

We have stocked up and getting ready but this lock down, necessary as it is, will be devastating for us...we do not have the resources to deal with this....
