Your Hunting Vehicle

I'm always curious what people are driving. Show us a picture or two of your hunting rig.

I will start this off. Mine is a right hand drive 1972 Land Rover Series III, 109. It’s the long wheel base five door wagon. Completely under powered by a 2.2 L petrol. the truck was completely restored from the tire ruts to the roof top by the Land Rover centre in England. She has a turner engineering top end, power steering, anti lock breaks, and a Santana roof. inside its loaded with defender bits and seats. I sprayed the entire passenger compartment with bed liner for durability and installed my own hunting and lock boxes.

It may not be fast but it sure is big and ugly.

This is a great hunting vehicle you've got there! Perfect for hunting in Europe, lots of room for everything, including hunters, game keepers, beaters, dogs, firearms and a few kills... We used to have the same one for 20 years, and it served us very well. As a boy in France I used to ride in the front on the hood in the spare tire! Great memories. Hold on to it, that's a real collector, you don't see many around anymore.

Mines a 2005 Mitsubishi Triton 2.8L turbo diesel. Fitted with mud terrain tyres, winch and driving lights. Plenty of room in the tray area for game taken.

For Africa i can recomend only one commercial vehicle - TOYOTA LAND-CRUISER! There is simply nothing better! We started out with Land Rovers in the 70's into the 80's but that was when there was nothing else and they served us very well. But as soon as the trusty cruisers came into Tanzania, there just isn't another vehicle that can compare.

Of course, if you build your own hunting vehicle, it will probably be best suited, but in the case of factory material - Toyota Land Cruiser does it best! Check it out...

i'm very glad you started this thread!i have always felt that our hunting vehicles should have a special place in our hearts.i own a 1973 series III Land Rover (pickup),109,a sturdy and faithful companion in the out-of-the-way places.I'm happy to learn that you own one of these powerful,sturdy cars.i'll be posting its pictures soon.

No arguement on your choice of truck but that first one as some additional equipment I haven't seen in the catalogue! I bet she has to sit next to the door, not in the middle. That way we can watch when she gets out to get the gate.

These are my two favorite modes of transportation. That would be my bride in camo next to the gelding and yes, those are beavers in the crates on the front of the ATV.

This one belongs to a good friend of mine. The Suzuki Samurai isn't exactly my idea of a hunt truck but they are incredibly popular among the German hunters. This one is outfitted with a modified rear seat and front and rear winches. Inside the4 front passenger seat has been removed and replaced with an ingenious dog box. It looks like a typical travel carrier but the door to the dog box is actually the door to the truck. It’s completely integral to the truck. The standard here is a small truck and trailer. They drop the trailer and then move in to the revere. If they need the trailer they drag it in later.

I too have a Land Rover RHD its an 88 inch lightweight 2.2 petrol plus another one for spares.
Its a small world.

Here is mine

Just picked this up for the swampy hog and deer hunting areas around my place. If this jeep is in the way of an errant bullet, there is probably enough rust holes to let it pass through without hitting and damaging anything!

I too have a 4 legged vehicle, but I have never ventured out on horseback, where I haven't had to walk back!

tarawa...........what kind of nag do you have? TB or an Arab. Can't tell much through the planks and fly mask. LOL We raised quarter horses and paints for over 20 years, but we sold the last of our breeding stock this past year. Now we will just be keeping a couple of horses to ride and pack for 'retirement'.

He is an ex racing TB. Son of Dahar, Grandson of Alydar....All that breeding and he didn't like to run...just eat and crap. He originally sold for about $50k, second group of investors paid $25k he chipped a bone in his knee racing and I got him for my wife's birthday for $3k. The sellers quickly left town after I bought him....laughing all the way. Yes, he is the gift that keeps on giving!
No actually he is a great part of our family. Our little mule isn't in the picture.

Tarawa.............horses are like a big black hole that you throw money into.

But there are worse ways to waste money.

That is one thing that history has proven. Just because a horse can run, does not mean he will produce anything else that can run or wants to. We had a pretty well bred TB gelding a few years back (son of Secratariat) he could not run fast enough to scatter his own doodoo. Made a decent kids barrel horse though.

Good on you for saving an ex-track horse. They go to the can by the thousands every year. Not that I am against horses going for slaughter, it is just the racing industry chews them up and spits them out. Blows their minds and wrecks their young bodies.

I LIKE your Jeep....that is a CJ5 isn't it? When I was a kid I had one with a 304 in it. Had a lot of fun with that Jeep. Came out of the bush in that little buggy with moose cut into quarters and stacked in the back on more than one occasion. Gotta love that short wheel base. :thumb:
