COVID-19 Coronavirus UPDATES, BANS, CLOSURES, ADVISORY, etc.

The data doesn't solve anything, what it does it show where those bigger issues are that you reference. The economy IS NOT the issue right now, once this clears up it will bounce back. The SINGLE BIGGEST issue we have right now is the possibility of hospitals being over whelmed and the only way to prevent that is for people to stay at home as much as possible and realize it's not all about them. The data shows this is more than just a flu, that people are spreading it around without evening knowing they have it, that many of the people needing life saving medical attention are in a range younger than people think and are only alive because of access to the medical help, and that it is decimating older folks who do not deserve to die suffering from a virus that is now, currently, mainly being passed around by the ignorant and selfish!
Actually the data shows older folks recover and many don’t get much for symptoms. The older folks with underlying conditions are at risk and even younger folks with underlying conditions. As for hospitals, I agree that we don’t want to overwhelm them. Saying that people who are hospitalized were saved by that hospitalization doesn’t come out in the numbers. Of the hospitalized patients, a small portion have been critical. Most of the people admitted to the hospitals are admitted as precautionary cases.

This one size fits all approach has it’s own dangers. There has to be a better way to protect the people with underlying conditions than treating everyone the same. We should be identifying who and where they are, keeping them away from everyone else, delivering groceries and meds to their doors in a safe manner, checking in on them in a safe manner and spending a lot of resources on them. That would be money well spent instead of this shotgun approach that will destroy many businesses and cost a lot more in the long run to bail them out. There are thousands and thousands of other small businesses that will fail and not get help if this course of action continues. You saying that the economy will recover shows a lack of understanding about small business owners and workers that were already living paycheck to paycheck. I don’t know but perhaps your job is a government one and you can’t lose it or have to watch your business implode. There won’t be any bouncing back for a lot of businesses and people if we don’t end these mass closures and come up with a more targeted Plan B soon. The politicians are taking the easy way out by shutting everything down instead of settling up targeted programs to secure the people that the data shows are at a higher risk. Even so, the overall death rate is .9% of healthy people and 2.3% of people with underlying conditions for a total of approximately 3.2%. This isn’t smallpox or the plague. I don’t want anyone to die but some people need to get a grip on their fears.

I've been watching the President's press conferences. I like his dump the red tape, regulatory overburden of previous administrations. Unleashing government agencies to cooperate and allow the private sector to go full speed ahead is another plus.I shudder to think where we'd be if the previous president or heir apparent were in power.

Moving forward unencumbered by regulators is likely to allow a quicker resolution, but I’m not gonna pretend the current brain trust is the grease on the wheels.

You have a guy in charge who knows what a deadline is and how much it costs to go beyond it. We don't need a politician trying to please all constituencies nibbling around the edges trying to get a handle on a critical mass situation. Seventy three years on this rock, I've seen my share of politicians that talk a good line of bullshit with their only goal of keeping a job. Remember the last one and his "red line". What a freakin' joke. Right now, I'm thanking the spirits this man is in charge.

Hog patrol we would have had a huge amount of test kits 3 weeks ago if the so called commander in chief would not of told the WHO we didn't need those dam test kits and if you want to check statistic you will see that Obama dealt with 3 or 4 flu pandemics during his tenure

Totally agree. Didn't it take Obama 6 months to start getting a handle on the H1N1 outbreak?

Those test kits were not of the quality needed as told to him by his advisers. News bites from the anti-Trump MSM are factually incorrect and this was explained in the press conferences. Obama was/is a professional politician from Chicago, one of the most corrupt cities in America. His incompetence as POTUS will go down in the history books next to Jimmy Carter. His failures were myriad and a topic for another thread.

Guys, watch the press conferences and stop looking at the talking heads who then tell you what he said. I know what he said. I watched the complete press conferences live, beginning to end. Then I watch the MSM and how they twist the news to suit the anti-Trump narrative. One female reporter, who as my old man used to say, "wouldn't make a pimple on a good reporter's ass" ask repeatedly why Trump was using Chinese in the description. She asked it yesterday and then asked it today. She's being paid by an anti-Trump news organization to denigrate his name and efforts. If anyone can't see it, you need to get a few more years of watching how the news is twisted to suit an agenda. I was born at night but not last night. YMMV.

yes keep in mind these press conferences are to give you just as much information as they want you to have and for whatever purpose,

If that's the case, I assume you know more than what they're saying. Please fill us in.

Done with this thread!

no one needs to pay anyone to denigrate Trumps name he does a excellent job of that himself just by opening his mouth

Ah, the true colors are exposed. :A Clapping:

well you know what assume spell out ,I do know from a nephew that worked at the CDC for 6 years that we played around with Ebola virus fot 4 years experimenting with its possibilitys of weapons grade germ warfare before this coutry even knew what it was,its entirely possible covid 19 was an accidental escape in china or wherever do you think that would be told to you in a press conference need to know info has far reaching qualitys

and there was nothing to expose Im a life long blue coller Democrat and dam proud of it

Perhaps this Trump/Anti-Trump debate could be continued on the Politics thread.

:S Bs Flag:Oh give me a break. That is like saying I had a nephew in the Air Force and thus he knows all about nuclear weapons development and employment. Back in the day (offensive studies were discontinued in 1969), CDC had nothing to do with any biological weapon development. They were obviously included in joint defense discussions as they are today. But frankly, we really didn't either. Sure we had a program, but it was more to provide insight into potential adversarial capabilities. Chemical weapons were a different thing. We had a substantial arsenal ready for retaliatory use, just as we did battlefield nuclear weapons.

So who is "we"? Which branch of service? Which agency? Where was this supposed experimentation taking place? Specifically? I despise this sort of conspiracy nonsense.

Clearly, we have been very interested in how such material might weaponized and how we might defend the population against such an attack. Some really bright folks at Detrick and elsewhere continue that important work. "Social Distancing" was a term used by DOD back in the 60's as a technique to be employed should we come under attack. Long ago, the US came to the conclusion there was no effective way to contain such a release to a targeted population. We have in recent years been concerned about a well funded terrorist or nihilist group releasing something like small pox into the developed, unvaccinated world.

The real question for me is why did we learn nothing from the SARS epidemic? Korea and Singapore obviously went to school on it and were prepared for this less dangerous outbreak. The previous administration would no doubt provide far more eloquent press conferences, but a real unbiased media would be asking them and Bush, not Trump, why we were not ready.

I always like it when someone says a friend of my second cousins first born knows someone who works somewhere.

I highly doubt that if there was any truth to the statement a number of post above. I also doubt that a person with only 6 years on the job unless they had a masters degree in it would be privy to any of this kind of information. Not to mention that I don't think that the CDC does anything with a weapons based environmental or bio weapon.

CDC stands for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Not for centers for disease development.
